I believe there's a button in the top right corner...
But yeah, I don't care what a magazine run by strangers I've never talked to are excited about, especially when I got you guys here. I can actually yell at you guys.
So...been playing No Man's Sky for a bit. Went in expecting a fairly relaxing and monotonous adventure through space, exploring entirely for its own sake. I got exactly that. I think I've had my fill for now, but I'll definitely being going back whenever I need to cool down (and it's summer, so...). Until then, MORE OVERWATCH! I almost have 10 lootboxes ready for Doomfist...which...wait, when's he hitting the PS4?
Has anyone else played Fallout 4 since the DLCs released? I rolled a new character and have been getting back into it. It's really impressive just how many genius ideas that game has, from probably the best weapon crafting system in gaming to the positional body damage and environmental storytellings done with the few radio antennas in the world.
I still like Skyrim's world better for obvious reasons, but Fallout 4 is just so fun to play. You can spent so much time progressing your character and experimenting with different weapon configurations, sets, and enemy types. Far Harbor was such an incredible expansion with all of the new story threads and enemy designs. One of the DLCs even added elevators, which I haven't gotten the chance to experiment with yet but would be super cool if I can use them to climb up to the strip of super highway above Finch Farm. Like, make this but Elder Scrolls and prettier with magic and enchanting please. Also, maybe a few less settlements.
@Dezzy It's futuristic, but I argue still ''realistic''. Star Wars doesn't even have bullets! It's definitely more fantasy than COD, that was what I was getting at.
I've broken my rule about not preordering games for Uncharted Lost Legacy. Cos you get a free download of Jak and Daxter for the PS4.
And what are the odds of the game being bad, really?
I don't really see why there's such a stigma about pre-ordering. I think the last big time people have been burned by it was this $60 indie game with a larger scope than anything and before that a tie-in game by a shifty dev, which, duh. Duh on both counts.
The only reason I pre-order is to make sure the game gets shipped and delivered on release date. I also don't pre-order anything more than two weeks in advance, I just don't see the point in paying for something now, knowing you won't receive it for several months or even years. Plus I get interest as long as it's in my bank account. It's not a lot, but it's something I guess.
Preordering is fine if you know the game will be good, like with Splatoon 2 or Mario Odyssey. When it comes to companies that sometimes send out half-baked games like EA or Ubisoft, or any game that you're generally not 100% sure you'll be happy with, I don't think people should preorder.
That isn't always foolproof, though. People thought No Man's Sky was going to be the ultimate game, for example. You couldn't really blame them for being excited. In that case, if most people followed the "don't preorder at all" rule, a lot less people would have wasted their money. So it's a bit of a toss-up.
I definitely think it's fine to preorder when it comes to companies with mostly good reputations like Nintendo, and especially if it's a game from one of their most famous franchises like Mario Kart or Zelda, which have an extremely, extremely small chance of not being, at the very least, good games. If it's a game from a company with a shaky history, a franchise that's known to be hit or miss, or a generally unknown company like Hello Games, people should wait until the reviews roll in.
Preordering is essential for Nintendo stuff, if you don't preorder chances are you'll never get it. For non-Nintendo stuff, it's really a case of is there a preorder bonus and do you like that bonus.
@BLP_Software That's a UK thing perhaps. I've also heard that in some countries you have to pay to pre-order something. I believe some stores in the US do that, but don't quote me on that.
@BLP_Software I see. Well, I just pay the price of the game up front, no additional costs. Usually comes down to €52/€55 for a ''big'' release, because apparently retailers are allowed to set their own prices in Europe. Yay.
@BLP_Software I don't think they're allowed to go over the MSRP though. So in the end it's a good thing for us. Because that means stores will be competing for the lowest price to garner the most sales.
Fallout 4 was one of the worst AAA games I've ever had the misfortune of playing, unfortunately. Even putting aside the performance issues on everything but a top of the line PC, the game itself is so bland and unimaginative that I had to actively push myself to continue playing it. The dialogue system and (lack) of RPG mechanics also hurt. And that horrendous town building feature! Ugh. $60 down the tubes. That's what I get for trusting a Western AAA dev to deliver, I guess. The sting would have hurt less if I hadn't been looking forward to it so much.
Oh well. At least New Vegas is still worth playing.
