@Ralizah I'm more surprised that they're even doing this considering the low sales of both the Vita and the PS4 version. But hey, I'm not complaining!

@CanisWolfred Hmm. Sorry about that. However, I'm a tad confused by your objection if you were hoping for former onimusha dev input. Onimusha pulls from Japanese horror and mythology as well and the first three are pretty much resident evil: nobunaga yoakai edition. Not knocking why you are passing it...but just curious given that Nioh and Onimusha still look to have very similar visual cues.

Because Onimusha was never serious about it. I mean, not in a way I could take seriously. Frickin' Onimusha 3 had me laughin' my @$$ off the last time I played it. I really didn't get that feeling the last time I checked out Nioh.

Bingo. That's when I've seen the most complaining, and I've fallen victim to that plenty o' times. Heck, the worst is when you bought a game for a system, that game gets delayed, and then it switches completely to a different system.

Or cancels completely. Or happens twice in a row, and just wasn't good in the first place.

That's very much the situation I'm in with Zelda. I didn't buy a Wii U until a new one had been confirmed for it. If they cancelled the Wii U version, I'd feel cheated for sure.

In general, a good policy is to not buy a system until it has enough quality software on it that it could never get another new release and you'd still be satisfied with your purchase.

I followed that rule with Wii U and completely ignored it with PS4 (bought it for Persona 5 and Gravity Rush 2 and have barely used it to this point, although that's definitely changing next year).

@CanisWolfred Gotcha. Well maybe Nioh will sell well enough to make Capcom blow the dust off the series.

The demo for Danganronpa 3 is out now.

So, downloaded and played both the Gravity Rush 2 and Nier: Automata demos today.

GR2's was a bit short for my tastes, but it at least gave me a feel for how the game will look and play, and... well, it's really just a graphically updated version of Gravity Rush. I'm aware that there are apparently different "styles" of gravity usage, but the demo doesn't get into that. It was nice to see the game in action, though, and can't wait for January 20th to arrive so I fawn over the actual release.

EDIT: Apparently the "advanced" route is quite different. This was definitely the more interesting of the two routes, as it let me experience a couple of the different combat styles I was just complaining about not getting to play with. You switch between styles by flicking in different directions on the touch pad, which sounds like it should be aggravating (past touch pad centric gameplay mechanics have been little more than an annoyance), but it actually works really well in this game.

Nier: Automata plays a lot like Bayonetta, and the demo was quite fun, featuring a decent-length tutorial level that showed off some of the game's systems and gimmicks, such as the constantly-shifting camera perspective that seamlessly transitions the game from being a 3D action game to a side scroller to an overhead twin stick shooter and back again. The game plays equally well in all of these drastically different perspectives, which is quite impressive.

Visually, it's a bit bland, though. Bayonetta 2 is a far more visually striking adventure, and that was on comparatively underpowered hardware. I think most of that is down to the lack of colors, though. I guess the good thing is that it's theoretically possible for this to run on the Switch.

At least the framerate is rock-solid.

I'm not sure this is a day one buy for me, but I'll keep my eye on it. Hopefully it's newcomer friendly, because I've never played any of the games that came before it.

That's one of the most interesting thing about Nier to me. I wasn't totally sold on how it played (there's a lot of 3D movement to account for when the camera is turning and zoomed far out from your character), but I'm hopeful. Anyway, I think the game looks great. 60 fps whatever and so on, but I loved the rusted aesthetic of it. The fog seems intentional to my eye, not like lazy draw distances. Anyway, the main game looks quite nice and post-apocalyptic with forests and such, so let's wait for that to judge it's looks.

Don't hate me because I'm bnahabulous.

Ralizah

@Haru17 This game either needs some color or evocative environments. Forests actually sound like they might be nice, but the bland, industrial nature of the tutorial level just sort of bored me.

Gameplay itself was fun though, so, as you say, I shall wait for the full game to release.

It's being described as an "open world RPG" online. Is this game not level-based?

Playable as in turn on the PS4, wait one hour for an update, put in the disc, wait another hour for the update, and then wait for an install and then play maybe by tomorrow

Just hit level 42 in Final Fantasy XV... chapter 7.

It's definitely passed the test. Usually I get into games, but then move on shortly after. The fact I'm... what is it now... pushing 100 hrs of play time tells me I'll be polishing this one off to the uttermost.

The dungeons in this game are the best part.

so i got a kid in the family that is now almost 11years old and he kinda got into gaming because of me showing him mariokart wii and what not.
he now owns a playstation 4. the reason for that is beyond me because he already has a 3ds, a new 3ds xl and a wiiU. i think he has never played through an entire game yet but always gets new ones from his parents. he's already pretty spoiled IMO.

anyway my father bought two games for this kid. i think he just picked some randomly and went with the first ones that seemed cool to him. one looks like a budget game that i never heard of. some strategy game. i highly doubt the kid will have fun with that one.
the other one however is skyrim remastered. skyrim is one of my favourite games of all time and just seeing the box art made me wanna play it again. but i dont think this game is a good choice for an eleven years old kid. it's way too spooky and brutal. the kid still believes monsters would live under his bed. i also think skyrim is too big and complicated. so i said to my father that the games are not a good choice. he said i could take the games back to the store and get some other games instead, if the kid understands the reasoning and the parents play along. we will see tomorrow...

tl;dr
any games you can recommend for an eleven years old kid?

@6ch6ris6 When I was eleven years old, I played many games that weren't suitable for my age either. Skyrim is probably fine, he probably plays COD with his friends anyway. There are games like Ratchet & Clank or Tearaway that are great and are for all ages. Maybe Gravity Rush too?

@Octane no he doesnt play cod and he doesnt play online either. his parents won't allow that. fun fact: he got splatoon on release. but he can't play it online. what a waste of money...
ratchet and clank also came to my mind but i never played them so i wasn't sure. and i also heard good things about tearaway.
i also played games not suited for my age when i was a kid. but i know that kid. skyrim is too brutal and spooky. he'll get nightmares.

@Tasuki oh he freaking loves minecraft! probably got the game on multiple devices i think. gonna check out your recommendation for sure!

edit: holy moly dragon quest builders looks awesome !! only on ps4 though...damn

THANKS !
