Oh yeah I guarantee a tenfold increase in size won't happen. But that's a slightly different point from whether 500GB is enough. If big AAA games just remain the same as they currently are (often up to 100GB, and sometimes above), then 500GB won't be enough will it?
So apparently the internal codename for the PS5 Showcase on Wednesday was "Project Nimble" alluding to the fact they were waiting on Microsoft to detail their Xbox launch details before they came out with an event of their own
Well played lol

Yeah but what are the odds they've matched the price point of the Series S and have 3 prior generations of backwards compatibility on offer?
I'm guessing very low.
I think all they'll have done is slightly undercut the price of the high-end console, or just matched it (if they'd been originally hoping to aim for higher than $500). If I was them, I'd just put the PS5 disc version up for $475 and take the hit of whatever loss that incurs. It'll be worth it to get the idea in people's mind that the PS5 is the cheaper of the advanced consoles.
Besides, there are only 39 OG Xbox games playable through their ''BC'' programme. So I'm not even sure why people keep insisting it plays Xbox games, because bar a few exceptions, the vast majority isn't even playable on modern Xbox systems.
It plays everything the Xbox One does, so yes that includes the "39 Xbox Games". All I can say on that is that even though they technically don't play every Xbox or Xbox 360 game, I have a fairly broad taste in games, and every single game I've wanted to go back and play has been covered. (they weren't all to start with of course, but they are now)
Sony should definitely up their game. I haven't counted, but they should have at least all of their own games available in the store. Cross-buy between systems, and that's enough. Whatever third parties want to do is up to them, but it would be nice if they put their games on the online store as well.
@Dezzy I know. That's not what I'm asking either. It would be a nice bonus, but as long as they're available for cheap I'm fine with it. That's better than having nothing at all.
Yep, except the thing is that all of the multiplat games from those generations are already available on Xbox, so the only ones that people will really care about Sony having are the Playstation exclusives. Most of which have already been re-released or remade in some form. It's a pretty damn short list of games that you can't already play in another way.
Off the top of my head, the only major game I can only think of is MGS4. I'm sure there are others though.
@Dezzy MGS4 is a big one but there are a few legacy titles that I think could benefit from being re-released as PS2 Classics
Given Persona 5's massive success I'm surprised Persona 4 and Persona 3 FES weren't added to the PS4 PS2 Classics selection at all considering they were both available on PS3. I would've said the same for Nocturne but that's getting remastered now and is probably going to be backwards compatible on PS5 out of the box
Other major examples would be stuff like the .hack games, Silent Hill 2, or Dragon Quest VIII, the early Burnout games, Digital Devil Saga, God Hand, Tony Hawk Pro Skater 3, and a few that I might be missing
For PS3 games they could totally release a few of them digitally but I think one of the more obvious options would be to bring those PlayStation Collections over from stuff like the PS3/Vita like the Ratchet and Clank HD Collection or the one they did for Sly Cooper.
I agree they need to undercut on the disc model even slightly. But they can't leave digital precariously low in value. Ultimately they want consumers to abandon physical and lock into their store. They need to convince you you really want the digital version and give up physical. 50 or 75 off won't do that. It's a hard balancing act for them. In some ways keeping their premium sku cheaper than ms is what matters most. Long term, keeping digital attractively cheaper is what matters most, no matter how much they subsidize. Especially considering Microsoft can lock buyers to their digital offerings for a cut rate price, series s could, long term, be more profitable than ps5 or series x. More subsidized hardware, but massive price appeal and vendor lock into digital.
Sony's can't undercut ms on digital, and yet can't compete in profits if they end up with a largely physical install base while ms is predominantly digital though S. They need to sell ps5 vs xbox, but internally their critical game is certainly selling digital over physical. What we don't know if just how much more profitable a PSN sale is compared to wholesale retail. It's that number that determines how deep they can cut costs and it's a big reason ms can do 300 on S. And we've heard before from industry insiders in retail that MS is more generous with the wholesale prices, so they had more wiggle room already...
Edit:. And seriously what was the deal with them having us sign up for those pre preorders. Did early mean 2 hours? If they announce price on wed afternoon, i doubt they're taking preorders later than ms... That's not much of a "pre" preorder.
Other major examples would be stuff like the .hack games, Silent Hill 2, or Dragon Quest VIII,
We desperately need an HD definitive version of Dragon Quest 8. The 3DS version has so many great additions, but the graphics are crap. They should do that version in HD with the original graphics on Switch/PS4.
@Wavey84 Supposedly ps5 runs with 3 power profiles: ps4, ps4 pro, and ps5. Meaning that ps4 games don't get a power boost, it runs in faithful ps4 or pro emulation mode. Unlike XSeX that just runs full clock when available.
However ps4 pro added a boost mode post launch, so it's certainly possible they'll do the same with ps5. That just helped fps though, it didn't change the games original resolutions., Though all the games on your list have 4k pro versions so that would be fine.
I'm kind of hoping some of the vr games like skyrim get a resolution boost. That runs super blurry low res mode to keep fps up on pro.
Also hoping the nioh games get fps bump in high res mode. Those games are ugly even in high res, but super ugly in performance mode. But sadly don't play very well without performance mode.
@Dezzy totally agree. Maybe they can add full voice acting to vii too ....
But seeing as they can't even manage to get a true uhd dq xi and just copy pasted the switch version, you'll probably have to wait until after Deep Down launches to get that.
@Magician I'm pretty sure Deathloop is one of those games that's meant to be a timed exclusive already, and that's a launch window title for PS5 from what I remember. They're also probably going to completely flaunt Spider-Man when he gets added to Avengers

@TheFrenchiestFry Deathloop is a summer 2021 title, not sure that that's still launch window. Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales is of course launch window. Other than that? Bugsnax is coming to PS4 as well, so count that out. Godfall semi-counts, since it's only on PS5/PC at launch as a timed console exclusive, and that's 2020. Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart is Q1 2021.
The exclusives list (excluding any games available on PS4) at the moment looks like this from what I could tell.
Launch:
Spider-Man: Miles Morales
2020:
Astro's Playroom
Godfall (Timed, Console exclusive)
Q1 2021:
Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart
Q2 2021:
Deathloop (Timed, Console exclusive)
TBA 2021:
Horizon Forbidden West
Ghostwire: Tokyo (Timed, Console exclusive)
Returnal
TBA/2022 and beyond:
Demon's Soul Remake
Destruction AllStars
Gran Turismo 7
Project Athia (Timed, Console exclusive)
Sackboy: A Big Adventure
@link3710 I don't think Project Athia or GhostWire are timed like Deathloop. Bethesda only ever said Deathloop was specifically a timed exclusive but GhostWire and Athia are just permanent console exclusives even though they'll be getting Windows versions as well.

@link3710 It's unlikely that Demon's Souls, GT7 and Sackboy are 2022 and beyond. DS has already been rated in some regions. And we've already seen the final box art of Sackboy. I think all of them are first year for certain. Demon's Souls and Sackboy are definitely launch window.
