The PS3 is a much better system compared to the Xbox 360 when it comes to exclusive games, hardware, and online. The PS3 has hardly any techincal problems while the Xbox 360 has techincal problems galore. The PS3 is an awesome system, you won't regret buying it.

Did he ever mention 360? He only said he wanted to get a PS3.

There he goes, Firkraag. One of God's own prototypes. A high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die. - My VGscore

the OP did mention all his friends having the 360, which leads the logical mind to assume it was a considered purchase.

If anything, I figured bestbuck deserved the Wag-O'-The-Finger for the largely unsubstantiated "PS3 internet being bad is a LIE" comment--anyone who's played even a little bit on both is well aware of the innate superiority of 360s online model, despite its price.

The Fox references no interesting games upcoming for the PS3...while I understand that point, I'm inclined to point out the upcoming Heavy Rain and the upcoming God of War 3. HR looks to give a previously unmatched gaming experience that I find quite interesting, albeit admittedly not everyone's cup of tea. GoW 3 should satisfy the group that may not be so pro-HR, as it's leagues beyond any other action game/IP available on all fronts.

Anywho--keep in mind that buying the console your friends have is quite nice--having real-life people to play online with from day 1 is a great ability. I happened to both prefer the strengths of the PS3 and have a large pool of PS3-owning friends; however, I could've seen myself going the Xbox route if it had the install base among my friends.

I also think it's worth noting that if you have an up-to-stuff PC, a lot of the console-exclusive 360 games are also for PC, e.g. Mass Effect 2 (which is great--very great--and this is coming from someone who laughed at how overrated the first was)

If you have a PC that can play Fallout 3 on the maximum output (just an example,) then definitely go for PS3. A lot of the best 360 games are also on PC's. It would cost more than a 360, but if you already have it, go PS3.
