That's sorta my point. You shouldn't need back knowledge to figure out what's going on. And that goes for any game. I didn't need it in Super Smash Bros. I didn't need it in Ken's Rage. In Didn't need it in Super Robot Wars. I understood enough of what was happening because it told me, while enjoying the rest of the game because it was fun. If Orochi 3 doesn't do that, then I don't see how you can call it a good game. If it does do that, then I don't see what the problem is, and why it should be avoided until people have already invest time in other games.
Because the point of giving advice is making sure people get maximum enjoyment out of a game. Can you follow the plot of Warriors Orochi without the backknowledge? Sure, why not. Is it as much fun as it is when you know who these characters are in a game that's all about the characters? No.
Ergo play a Dynasty Warriors and Samurai Warriors game first, fill yourself in, enjoy Orochi 3 more.
Dead Nation isn't that bad. For being a top down arcade shooter featuring hordes of zombies, it's not bad. The concept is actually fun since I'm not used to it like I am RPGs and FPSs and the difficulty is just right. The customization isn't as in-depth as it could be though it gets to the point and really changes the game play the further you upgrade.
I also find the atmosphere and storyline fairly superb and likeable.

Oh just wait until you get to the last third of the game and you start replaying levels over and over because of one-hit kills. That's when the game falls apart.

sure it's a great game still, but the REAL fun is in the character fan service.
Huh, I guess I didn't read this part. So I guess this was all for not. Still, the tone in your post was what set me off - I was given the impression that the only way to enjoy it was be familiar with the characters, which I don't agree with in the slightest.

Even on Normal?

Yep!
Alright, I'm curious now, as I don't even know what @James is speaking of!

Dragon's Dogma is ace. I couldn't stop playing it, and I very rarely feel that way about games these days, even really good ones. I put in a solid 15-20 hours over about two weeks, which again is very rare for me (I'm very busy). The action is great, feels really satisfying and has plenty of variety to it — you can level up core skills as well as special moves like spread arrows and big magic attacks. It handles really well, it's big and while the quests aren't the most interesting ever (and there's no morality, which may annoy some) it's super-satisfying and very addictive.
It's gone from a game I literally couldn't care less about to one of my most wanted games of the next few months.
So I beat Dead Nation and I have to say it was pretty intense. The hordes are insane as I've never seen so many zombies at a time. The difficulty is fair and with a little strategy, it doesn't become an issue. Also, the only way to play it is with a friend.
So. Much. Fun.
