@smithers: Yeah, it is going to be good to get a free taste of what PSN+ has to offer(I'm still not a member yet). This might be what will convince me to sign up for Plus. I am definitely looking forward to getting some of those PSN features back online again. Too bad that the PSN Store isn't quite ready to come back just yet. I want to take advantage of my free Plus membership and buy some discounted games.

I dont think that Sony would give us Plus until the store and its features are back up.

Nice! Would have been better if they had used the downtime to change the ridiculous "Qriocity" name to something better, but I guess you can't have everything.

I take it this applies to PSP members as well? You know what would be awesome? If I could get a free PSP game. I'd so get Resistance Retribution in a Heartbeat. Or Maybe even a PSOne Classic. I think I'd finally take the plunge and grab Suikoden.

EDIT: I accepted your friend request, Slappy.

I had a feeling we'd get a free month of PSN+, I look forward to giving it a go. Until then, I'm playing Red Dead Redemption for the first time; awesome game.

Good move by Sony. This whole thing is going to cost them millions. By giving away a free demo of PSPlus, they might recoup some of those losses by encouraging a few new people on to Plus.

Personally, I find it a little insulting. I can't say I really wanted anything from then and I wasn't complaining at all before they told us about all the data they managed to lose, but considering they've put millions of their customers at risk of credit card theft and identity fraud, I don't think given us a 1 month trial for their paid subscription service really puts things right.

I'm really puzzled by the fact some people are still defending Sony through this and/or pretending it isn't a big deal.

Because Sony complied with laws and regulations, so it isn't actually in the wrong, and because it isn't a big deal. I cancelled my credit cards - 20 minute job. I changed my passwords - 5 minute job. 25 minutes of inconvenience, and I'm fine.

I do agree with you actually...since the members shouldn't even be cancelling their CCs whether it takes a few minutes or not. Although I personally think that the PSN+ offer will be successful despite what's gone down. Despite it all, I'd rather hear that the hackers have been caught and been forced to remove everyone's personal information as well to be absolutely sure.

If they followed everything by the book, then they wouldn't have the amount of charges lined up at them right now from multiple sources right now. Also, you shouldn't need to cancel your credit card, or change your information when submitting them to a company. If you do need to, it's a big deal because that company cannot be trusted with your information, which means they're doing something wrong. (See a pattern here?)

^ The 2007 thing (the 12,700 accounts) is from their website that was hacked recently. It doesn't have anything to do with PSN.

You don't need to. There's still no verification that they have credit card data. Judging a company's behavior by the amount of lawsuits against them (esp. in the US) is a waste of time. The second sentence doesn't make any sense so I'm ignoring it--in fact, this is a lesson I'm starting to think would be better applied to all your posts. As usual, this comment does nothing but exhibit bias and blast Sony when they're already down. (See a pattern here?)

Considering Sony has said credit cards have been compromised, that means they have people's credit card data. How can you think otherwise? You claim I'm being bias, and man, do I love irony. I say this because even when saying Sony says CCs have been compromised, you say there's no proof. You think if there was no proof, Sony wouldn't admit it?
Think, McFly, think.
Also, if you feel you don't need to cancel your credit card when it's now in the hands of someone you don't know...Well I just hope you don't actually have a card yourself. Or better yet, if you do, hope it gets compromised so you can see for yourself the need to cancel it in the future when someone else has access to it.

im really not that worried about the whole hack thing, i know its a big deal but i think some people are taking it a bit too seriously. the Sony Online Entertainment hack, however, is almost more important cause actual credit card info was taken there
