Oh yeah! I've played Contact too! Suda didn't make it though, another dude from Grasshopper directed it.

Ew. That monkey man is weird.

@Popyman... That is right! Grasshopper made it, but Suda stayed out of its development.

In other words... weird for the sake of being weird (by definition; there's no other reason for the weirdness to be happening). Suda strikes me as a man so immensely full of himself that the only apt comparison is Quintin Tarantino.

In both cases, the men are reasonably talented from a technical perspective, but so in love with their own "art" that they leave no room for the audience to be involved. It's obnoxious, elitist and the kind of thing that gives university students kicks because it's "arrrrrrt, maaaaaan."

Shadow of the Damned has me interested because it's more like a Robert Rodriguez vision - Rodriguez is great because, while his work coloued by the Tarentino influence - a man Rodriquez is a big fan of, his own films are tempered by a more mature and less elitist sense of entertainment. In this case, Suda gets to have his say on the game, but the creative vision is thankfully more than just one man.

So you're hating on the man for creating his vision the way he sees it, correct?
I don't see how that's obnoxious (It's his idea), or elitist.

After playing through Killer 7 I have to say Waltzelf is pretty on the money with that comparison.

There's also the fact that Suda games tend to play like moldy day-old garbage. No More Heroes has one of the worst beat em up systems I've ever used (lock on-based systems suck) and Killer 7 got old as soon as the first chapter/level/whatever was done. Can't say the angular, weird look does much of anything for either game.

I must say, I'm glad Shadows of the Damned looks somewhat more conventional, visually. Weird concept, but looks like a game rather than a weird concept this time.

There really isn't any middle ground with Suda Goichi's stuff; you're on one side of the fence or the other. Personally, I love his stuff. Killer 7 and No More Heroes are two of my favorite games. I like stuff that's "weird for the sake of being weird" if that's what you want to call it. I didn't even know he had a new game coming out. Needless to say I'm excited now.

Speaking of Suda...does anyone know when "No More Heroes: Heroes' Paradise" is coming to PS3?
EDIT: Nevermind, I found a site with some info: http://www.siliconera.com/2011/03/09/no-more-heroes-heroes-pa...
This game will probably be my birthday present to myself.

Is that game any good? I'm usually a fan of games that get mediocre reviews, it seems, and it does look like it has potential, so I've been thinking about buying it.

While Killer 7 was a little too hectic, No More Heroes is one of the best games this generation because it provides such a breath of fresh air with it's great dialogue, and stylized visuals. The sequel was even better with tight controls, and doing everything better from the first game (Plus it has one of my favourite openings). I always look forward to Suda's work simply because I know I'll be getting a fresh experience that is unlike most games being released today.
Another Final Fantasy? Meh
Another Call of Duty? Yawn
Another Gran Turismo? Zzzz
Another Suda game? Oh hell yeah!

There's no way we played the same game. No way at all. Killer 7 wasn't even remotely hectic--it was the bar-none slowest-playing game every created. Slowly walking in straight lines down corridors listening for sound effects, then doing little radar-sweep things, then slowly aiming at an enemy weakpoint, then repeating 6 million times while stumbling through awkwardly-worded-solely-for-the-sake-of-being-awkwardly-worded dialogue as the story continued to devolve will forever be one of my weakest Gamecube memories. The story could've been good, too...

No More Heroes was similarly time-wasting, although the underlying action was at least somewhat competent. I don't recall a single decent line the entire game long--the awfully directed "I wanna get some" scenes with him and the semi-french chick were way to...strange to elicit any laughter, most of the dialogue circled the same "We're assassins " theme and gave me little to no connection to any characters, and the bereft-of-human-contact open-world system served to significantly slow down a beat em up system that required little to no skill and even less thought. A couple bosses were challenging, but more due to the combination of poor camera control and trashy stage layout (e.g. Ninja chick and that stupid girl you fight on the sand with holes everywhere and heat-seeking bombs).

I'm kinda glad it sounds like the second NMH game is more playable/fun, but short of someone giving me a free copy of the game, a voucher to get my hours back if I don't like it, and a slurpee machine, I doubt it will ever go anywhere near my Wii. There are too many stellar third-person action games on PS3 for me to divert my gaze.

EDIT - and Gran Turismo 5 is the most incredible racing-related anything ever created. It's impossibly lifelike--we bought my friend's Camaro and it drives identically (he has the Driving Force GT wheel/pedals and it's almost creepy how similar they feel. Not exactly an apples to apples comparison anyway...my FF fanboyism prevents me from responding realistically, but I can't say the CoD series does much for me either. Still--give me a choice between a free CoD game and a free Suda game and I'm probably picking CoD. Give me a choice to pay for either and I'm saving my money or buying wee--uh.....a weedwacker. That's it.

Hectic was the wrong word, and I was referring to the...You know, I don't even know how to put into words what I'm trying to described in the game. I'll have to come back to that later.
As for NMH quotes, some off the top of my head.
When Sylvia kicks you out of the car, she says "I'm running late for my facial"
"Some people at weddings, I cut off heads"
"I like her better when she's horny"
"You wouldn't want this to turn into 'No More Heroes Forever', would you?"
"Hi, this is Diane from Beefhead Video. I'm calling to inform you that the video you returned to us, wasn't ours. It appears to be a home movie of a guy., humping a pillow."
"Blueberry cheescake brownie!!"
"If I become number one, would you do it with me? Come on, just once."
"Strawberry on the shortcake"
I just redid a NMH re-run about 2 weeks ago. Third time beating it, and can't say I've done that to many other games.

Judging from the demo I played, not very. Still, it has its fans here, and the sale was only $5 off. I suggest giving it a try first but like Strofan7 said, it might be worth $20.

I'll comment on Enslaved. I 100%'d it on the 360, and generally I only do that for games I enjoy. I enjoyed Enslaved, alot, and if you play it, you'll know how annoying getting every orb is, so only the dedicated get every single one for the achievement (Or Trophy).
It has some of the best characters I've seen this generation, and you really do start to feel for the main character and his companion Trip as you play through the game. Great dialogue is throughout the entire game, and the animations are believable when the characters are interacting with each other. Couple this with some of the best voice acting ever, and you have yourself a great experience. Controls are tight and responsive, combat can get repetitive (But really, like every game suffers this),and the only way to spice up the combat is by upgrading your character as you progress through the game.
A very, VERY solid purchase.
Considering the game didn't even break 500,000k worldwide sales, but Namco Bandai gave Ninja Theory the go for a sequal just goes to show you how good this game is. Even with sales, the publisher still knows it's a great game, and deserves to be a franchise.

Another Final Fantasy? Meh

You haven't played many Final Fantasy games, then.

To clarify - anyone that would claim another Final Fantasy game is "more of the same" has only played one game at most and is making assumptions. There's more variety in that series than Suda's work, which is (again) the same self important "my games are cool and edgy maaaaan" stuff.

BedCommando, you're awesome. We seem to have very similar taste.

BC pretty much covered my views on Enslaved, amazing game and at $15 it's like stealing. You might not like it, but it's so worth the "risk" at that price.

And as for the subject of Suda games...I'm honestly tired of defending them on this site, I feel like I've done it a million times.

Once again, the Tarentino comparison. You're never going to convince someone who doesn't like the guy (or Suda's games) that he really is as genius as he likes to claim he is.

It's love or hate with either. Which is good in once sense - at least you're making a statement.

Dude, you've gone on multiple rants about your beloved Warrior series, I think you've lost the right to talk bad about any game on here without sounding like a hypocrite. If you want your series to be respected, how about you do the same for other games? You don't get Suda games the same way Western reviewers don't get Warriors. In other words, you're being just like the guys you hate.

Except that if I was to review a Suda game, I would score it reasonably well? I realise those games aren't really my style, and that I don't like them more for personal reasons than any great technical faults.

I never asked people to like the Warriors games - I explain why they're misundersood, then leave it up to people to agree or disagree. My criticism was with the press that don't even try to understand why the series still exists (and if they really were 2/10 games, there wouldn't be 22 of them).

On the other hand, telling me I have to like every game, or I can't argue the merits of Warriors games... that's a little bit dramatic, don't you think?

@Swerd_Murd
Okay, first of all, that "ninja chick" is a samurai; VERY different from ninja. Anyway, your opinions on the subject sound so strong and so adamantly unwilling to accept why others find the game enjoyable, there's certainly nothing I'm going to do to change your mind. Personally, I hate Gran Turismo and how overtly realistic it is. If I wanted to drive a car, I would go drive a real car. That kind of realism in a video game is just ridiculously boring, to me. As far as Killer 7 goes, the game really isn't about the gameplay, it's about the f'ed up aesthetic and story. The "slow" gameplay builds up tension by forcing you to scan your environment, never knowing where the baddies are. No More Heroes isn't really about the gameplay, either. It's about the crazy boss battles and the characters. As I said, though, Suda 51 is a love/hate type of developer, and I fall on the "love" side of the fence. If you didn't like No More Heroes, you're probably one of those who would like its sequel a lot better. I still like the first game best because they have such a different feel from each other. NMH2 is still a great game, and a solid sequel, and probably a better game overall, but I like the charm of the original.
