You only need 1.5 Mbps to be abe to run games at SD resolutions, and 5 Mbps for HD. I'm sure most people have more then 1 Mbps of speed unless you have Dial-Up or DSL as your internet provider. I have Comcast as my provider and I get around 20-25 Mbps on average depending on the conditions, so I can use this without any problems.
Yeah, I don't know many people with 1 Mb, some ISPs say that they are that, but you only get half or, most of the time, even less than that.
Sean Aaron ~ "The secret is out: I'm really an American cat-girl." Q: How many physicists does it take to change a light bulb? A: Two, one to hold the light bulb, the other to rotate the universe.
It launches fairly soon - is anyone else interested in how this will turn out?
There's a good list of big publishers supporting the service, and the billing vs ownership model is one that works well in buisiness, and I think it'll work well in gaming too - giving you greater access to more games at a cheaper price overall (monthly bill vs buying each and every individual game).
The way I see myself using this is like this - I see a game I'm interested in on OnLive, and I use that console as an extended demo. If I really, really like the game, then I can purchase a hard copy for PS3/ Wii. If I don't, then I don't need to go to the hassle of either trading it in or taking it back.
It's also further proof that the whole gaming industry is making the shift to that ownership model, which is fine by me. We use cloud computing at work, and it's way, way better than having to carry hard drives, CDs and so on everywhere.
I was intrested at first, but now lost intrest and i think it'll be a flop or hacked.
I think it is a neat idea, but I am not really interested in it. I like to own physical copies of stuff. I think some people will absolutely like it though.
The wifi beta was kinda glitchy, but it'll run fine on a PC with a wired internet connection.
This is a very cool program, I was able to play Arkham Asylum (30 minute free demo) on a laptop that otherwise wouldn't play it. That itself makes me a fan of Onlive.
Its ok personally I like having the hard copies. I wish they offered more games but otherwise its pretty good. I use it more like a Game rental place more then anything. I buy the 5 day pass play to see if I like the game and than go out and buy the hard copy. I do like that since I can check out PC games without buying them and than being stuck with them if I dont like them.
I would like some news on their console so far I havent heard anything about that but right now I am more interested in that.
Actually, never mind of what I said in my last post about the free trail. Their official blog says that you can still buy and rent the games, but you don't have to pay a subscription fee anymore like before.
I said that they canceled the subscription thing earlier xD
Tried this. This needs to get more support. Works well enough and I dont have to use up memory for games. Plus, i can now play previously pc only games on my mac
Onlive's Game system is now $99, but comes with one full playpass for any game (with a system preorder). Still seems like a steep price, but it's cheaper than getting a 360 or PS3 to play the same games.
Yea I thought about ordering it but right now I have money tied up in other places maybe in a few months. I have it on my PC and I havent even used it once. Their game selection isnt that great and I can get all those games for my Xbox. But like you said Irken if you dont have a 360 or PS3 than I guess it could be a good deal.

Apparently it doesn't have a monthly fee anymore. That's really good news, since I generally hate paying subscription fees. I'll probably give it a try over Christmas break.
I have a Compaq Presario CQ56. While not a high end Gaming laptop. Or designed for playing, The most Graphically advancedComputer games. I'm kind of curious to see if On-live would run as it says for on-live multiplayer games? The actual hardware costs $99.99 but I'd have to take a wait and see approach. I have PS3 and Xbox 360, So I can play on-line games at this time. On-live sounds like an interesting concept in theory. But I'm not sure that it will work as promised.
You dont need the tv console to get onlive on you computer you just go to their site and download the app. You should be fine to run it on your laptop.
