Participants from here are bold, in case of equal scores weighted points decided (less often guessed titles give more) or as an emergency solution the date of the entry.
Wow, 12 people with full points? A whole dozen winners?! That's a first!!!
Well then, congratulations to (in order of first entry) Excelsior, EarthPainting, residentgrigo, marek, TheLastToKnow, Wizdom, Havie, Dream-Team, Nobby_UK, The_BACH, Kong and lifer. .. you all WON and share the first place.
So, now please do elaborate on the hidden theme. I am curious myself!
Seriously? Surely, it can't be a coincidence that the many of the classic adventure games are all represented by their most (in)famous puzzles?
Ah yes, that is true - several times I picked the meanest riddles from adventure classics.
What I'm curious about is the comment on Return of the Obra Dinn, "Sudoku with corpses". I don't get the Sudoku part.
My "Sudoku with corpses" comment was about the mental exclusions you have to do in the game. In Sudoku your mind goes "It can't be the 3 or 4, those are already over there. The box is missing 1 and 2 though, and given that I just put another 1 down here it HAS to be the 2". In Obra Dinn I found myself thinking in a similar way: "This corpse can't be the dutchman or the guard, they both died with the Kraken attack. I don't know where the asian woman or her chamber maid are, and I think the woman left on the small boat so it HAS to be the chamber maid."
Good old time travel is a popular stylistic device to make a story a bit more interesting (dinosaurs! AND laser weapons!). In video games, Max Payne taught us about "bullet time", and some modern titles use time as a gameplay element even beyond slow motion. In this round you have 25 representatives in one bunch, do you know them all?
What date in your life would you like to travel back to? Maybe to the 6th of September so you can think about this quiz longer!? Sounds reasonable.
With this post I'll bring the thread back up and give you some hints.
Clues #1: 1) One series is featured several times in this round. 2) Game 11 is the last part of an older trilogy. 3) In the first line of this puzzle, only #2 has never appeared on Windows PCs. 4) Number 12 was released in this decade.
I'm going on holiday tomorrow, so here are the second and last clues already today.... because I don't have a time machine, unlike many of the protagonists in the games asked this time.
So let's go: 60 people are already participating, and one week from today this round will be over.
Hints #2: 1) You control games 3, 6, 11, 12, 14, 17, 19, 20 and 21 from a first-person perspective. 2) Title 15 is a Metroidvania. 3) There is also a VR version of game number 3. 4) The nine titles with a first person view are joined by five from a 3rd person perspective and eleven with 2D gameplay.
Wow, over a hundred people? With 113 players it's even the most visited quiz of all time. Now the time loop closes, we are back at the beginning of the month, and the solution is coming up. Did you guess everything right?

Here is the puzzle image again, followed by the answer:
This time we honour a former giant. Quite a few classics can be attributed to Atari Inc, which rose to become the biggest manufacturer of video games in the early 80s. We all know how the story ended, but much like the SEGA corporation (see related puzzle a few months ago ) a whole lot of hardware has come together over the years, with quite a few titles... I won't be able to please all fans and have left out some classics, but I still want to put you to the test: Whether console, home computer or handheld, exclusive or multiplatform - do you recognise these games?
