@GrailUK Nice! I don't think I'm spoiling anything if I say #21 is pretty old!

I resubmitted, should be fairly close to full points now.

July Quiz - Clues #3

Sixty people in the game, three from here, and zero with a full score? Well, then I'm helping one last time - so that all the fair-weather people can get back to their screens and maybe one particularly creative nerd will guess everything correctly after all.

Here is the third and last portion of clues, because the round ends this Saturday:

1) The Penguin Game #9 first appeared as an arcade title in 1982.
2) The #17 has you shoot up some crazy TV show and also first came out as an arcade game.
3) Look at #19! That's rare indeed, a Sega Saturn exclusive.
4) Game #8 is a story-heavy platformer from 2019, you control a robot.

Deadline is this Saturday the 31st of July, enter via http://www.retrogamequiz.com/

Here's the puzzle one last time: https://i1.lensdump.com/i/ZBLN4K.png

Oh, no hints for #9, #17 and #19! I thought those are three of the five hardest games this time, seperating the super nerds from the ubernerds. Although I felt really stupid when I figured out #17... with that clue it would have been obvious!

I keep forgetting about these quizzes - looked at this on Friday at work, but forgot to submit when I got home. I'll have to 'watch' this topic for future quizzes. Reckon I know maybe 7 or 8 of them without the clues.

July Quiz - answers & score

That's the way I like it - about 100 participants (okay, 95), lots of good entries and exactly ONE player with full score... a truly deserved first place. The difficulty level was a bit higher, so I had to help with more clues. I hope you had fun though!

You'll see who it is at the end of this post, now first the names of the games as text, then the pictures, then the high score.

1) Mega Man 6
Only one player did not know the "Blue Bomber"....
Answer rate: 99%
Other suggestions: -

2) Axiom Verge
I expected the mad scientist with the giant "glitch" gun to be more recognisable, hasn't this game been highly praised by the gaming press?
Answer rate: 68%
Other suggestions: Bionic Commando, Broforce

3) Turrican 3
Alternatively "Mega Turrican".
Answer rate: 76%
Other suggestions: Metroid, Probotector, Robo Cop.

4) Metal Slug 2
From the second part onwards, there were also female characters.
Answer rate: 82%
Other suggestions: Super Star Wars

5) Crypt of the Necrodancer.
Two people named the Zelda sequel "Cadence of Hyrule", which was also fine.
Answer rate: 80%
Other suggestions: Iconoclasts, Ittle Dew, Legend of Zelda.

6) Into the Breach
Answer rate: 75%
Other suggestions: Nectaris, Riftwalkers, Space Hulk, XCOM 2.

7) Parodius 2.
This game has several names, but the series was enough for me.
Answer rate: 64%
Other suggestions: Ordyne

8.) Horace
Answer rate: 63%
Other suggestions: Crash Test Dummies, Kairobotica

9.) Pengo
Answer rate: 58%
Other suggestions: Dig Dug, Flappy Bird, S

10) Soccer Kid
Answer rate: 76%
Other suggestions: -

11) Jump King
Guys, I spent a whole clue to make it clear that it is NOT Shovel Knight!
Answer rate: 53%
Other suggestions: 20x Shovel Knight, Shuffle Knight, Gunbird.

12) Time Bandit.
Four games were really hard to guess this time, this is one of them.
Answer rate: 16%

Answer rate: 72%
Other suggestions: Mystic Riders, Touhou Project

16) Markos Magic Football

Other suggestions: -

17) Smash TV

18) Cruise for a Corpse
Answer rate: 26%
Other suggestions: Alone in the Dark, Pixel Detective, Police Quest 2, This Is The Police.

22) Nuclear Throne
Answer rate: 36%
Other suggestions: Bards Tale, Dropsy, Enter the Gungeon, Fish, Minecraft Pocket Edition, Wargroove, Zelda Oracle of Ages.

23) Elite
Getting this one right wasn't for casuals... only four people were able to correctly match this graphic from the space travel classic.
Answer rate: 4%
Other suggestions: 4x Space Quest, Manic Mansion, Metroid, Revenge of the Mutant Camels 2, Star Commander, Star Trek, Wing Commander.

24) Lunar Lander

25) Dangerous Streets
An excruciatingly bad fighting game.

@Mr_Horizon Brilliant quiz. I answered off the top of my head and I think the difficulty was spot on. A couple of games I doubt I would have ever guessed, others i'm kicking myself over. Just fab

(Which version of Elite is that, I'm old and only know the C64 version hee hee)

How did more than 50% of people know 'Shower with your Dad Simulator'? Is that what everyone's playing these days?

@Dogorilla Must admit, never heard of it. Sounds a bit trashy to me lol.

Didn't get my answers in on time, but I got 12 in the end with help from the clues and a couple of lucky guesses. Will definitely enter this month

It was the Amiga version, so there were some nicer graphics for the "planet info" screen. Here's another one like it, but with a "large bug-eyed lizard" instead of the human woman.

August Quiz - Riddles & Puzzles

The players have decided, the next round is all about puzzles!

Untitled

Not quite what I expected (my "time travel" material collection was already done...) and not really my genre either, but let's have a look. So this time it's about puzzle games and puzzles in games... lots of expected classics are included, but I've tried for a few surprises too!

Deadline is Tuesday 31st of August, enter via http://www.retrogamequiz.com/

Here comes the quiz, enjoy:

Oh, I didn't get any notifications for the results.

windfisch's 25 points are quite amazing. Congrats!

I'm in the minority on this one and managed to google a wrong answer.

Love the topic this time. Some of the best games of all time featured.

Yeah, what was up with "The Age Of Decadence", isn't that some regular fantasy rpg? Like, not pixelated at all?

Glad to hear that, I think ResetEra likes it too.

Hints #1:
1) Pictures 6, 8, 10 and 12 show puzzles from classic point and click adventures.
2) Number 3 also shows a puzzle, but the game (heavily advertised online) is a different genre.
3) Game 4 is an indie game (about two years old) that has won many awards.
4) The following series (or the game pictured if no series exists) were first released on mobile devices: 2, 3, 5, 7, 13, 16, 18 plus one of the last row.

August Quiz - Clues #2

What's exciting, totally popular and only runs for four more days? That's right, this month's "Riddle Riddle". Fifty players are competing, one from here, and the clock is ticking - here are the last clues in time for the final weekend. So everybody (and especially @GrailUK @Dogorilla @lifer ), let's go!

Clues #2:

1) What you can see in picture 6 has to do with monkeys in several ways.
2) Number 13 first appeared on the Nintendo DS.
3) Game 19 is not Portal, but another title has a reference to the Portal series.
4) There is one Game Boy game in this round, and one for the Atari 2600.

Deadline is next Tuesday (31st of August), enter via http://www.retrogamequiz.com/

I didn't get around to look into this until today, but fortunately, the topic is my jam and the month relatively easy.

But this month is great.
Three of the games featured are strong candidates for my all time top 10, and I had to laugh at the entries for the "hidden" secondary theme that connects many of the games featured. Great choice!

You'll have to elaborate on that when the answers are revealed, I haven't noticed a secondary theme.
