@Joeynator3000 As Haru pointed out (and I keep saying), the 3rd gen monsters don't need to be changed much (if at all) because they were already solid and entertaining fights (Urugaan I'm not thrilled with, but that's more due to his size making him hard to dodge than anything else). Cephadrome is still a dull fight (whose length depends on how many sonic bombs you packed) and Garuga is plain aggravating due to the hitboxes, unpredictability of his AI, and instacharge. They improved the older monsters from garbage to frustrating-- not a huge achievement.

No, World is not traditional. It's departed from tradition in a great many respects.
I love all the monsters. I don't think there's a monster to date I didn't love fighting. In any of the games I've played. Even Plesioth, which everyone seems to hate. I find the fight interesting. Just recently fought him in fact. And Lavasioth, which I had never fought before. Awesome hunt!

Can confirm. Alatreon was exactly how I remembered him from MH3U. Me and TeeJay just took him on the other day and got rocked lol. Suited up and strapped up and went back in packing hard (we're talking 10 mega potions, 10 potions, 2 max potions, ancient potion, farcaster, 5 demondrugs and armor skins, 2 Dust of Life and 3 Lifepowders, etc) and beat him with 5 minutes left on the clock. It was every bit as exhilarating as it was in 3 Ultimate. The exact same fight, which is terrific because I got to relive that epic showdown.
@JaxonH It's a core Monster Hunter game, just not the same exact rehashed content. Because it's a new Monster Hunter game, something I've been waiting for since like 2015 when I discovered 4 wasn't quite that.
I could care less about the tradition of a new $60 release if the core qualities are what I expect / want.
Yes yes, we all know you're the defense force for this game. Can't even state the blatantly obvious without you trying to deny or mitigate it.
Simply saying I'm happy to play a traditional entry and that triggers you. "Her der, it's traditional, IT'S TRADITIONAL, it's just not rehashed yada yada". There is clearly a difference between past games and this. But even when I walk on eggshells to be politically correct when describing past games, in an effort to not trigger anyone, somehow people still get triggered.
Whatever dude... No it's not rehashed. Not at all. THAT isn't the problem with the game. But it seems I can't even make a freaking comment anymore without you jumping into defend World. I say I'm enjoying a traditional game and you jump in to defend how traditional it is. But then you go on to use the argument of how different it is and "not rehashed" in the same breath...
Please do us all a favor and back off with the defense of this freaking game... seriously it's getting old... nobody was even attacking it and yet you're already defending it... again. MH World isn't rehashed so you're happy, and MH4U and MHXX isn't dumbing down the formula to appeal to western gamers so I'm happy. Neither is perfect. I wish MHXX had the vision and production values of World, but I wish World didn't compromise the staple blueprint of the series. Lets move on.
It's ok to like the game while still acknowledging it for what it is. Different... Non traditional... new direction... these are very PC descriptions which I carefully chose to use in order to not offend. Please to not feel the need to react to such descriptions of the game.

It's really difficult to tell who's critiquing the game because they dislike something about it and who's just fishing for complaints because they're never going to like the game because it's not a Nintendo game this time. You've even admitted that your judgement of World is compromised by what happens with the Switch version upgrade to a series compilation / spinoff game created to fill another year before 5th gen comes out.
I mean really, many posters here have been wheeling out the same tired complaint no matter whether or how frequently it gets debunked: 'Monster Hunter: World isn't true Monster Hunter, it isn't real Monster Hunter, it isn't traditional Monster Hunter.'
It's really just a basic ethos appeal combined with some 2 1337 4 U elitism. Those aren't substantive critiques, certainly the ones about accessibility aren't. Pointing out something different and then immediately thinking up a reason why that's bad doesn't carry little weight — it carries no weight at all because the Monster Hunter fans who're actually playing the game are coming back glowing.
So there's my 'defense' of the game — it wasn't hard to write because the evidence is on the side of optimism for World. Really now, I don't want this thread to be argumentative or hostile. You're of course free to express your opinion here, but don't insult and mock me as an individual and insult expect me not to be honest. You can debate opinions and the works themselves here or you can drag the thread back into the mud.

I didn't say anything about it not being a true MH. I simply made a distinction between past games and this one. And there is a distinction to be made. I say traditional to describe the games which follow the core formula- skill system, tells, healing, preparing for hunts, etc etc etc. Only you would see that as a "snide attack"
There was no snide attack. You're just so overly defensive you see anything and everything as a slight against the game, and feel the compulsion to defend against it. God forbid someone describe past games that were the same as "traditional" to distinguish from the new entry that practically doesn't have a single gameplay system or mechanic in place that hasn't been toned down or changed.
The only person who drags this thread in the mud is you in your relentless efforts to defend this game from any and all opinions that perceive any aspect of the game in a negative light. I came here today with optimism and excitement, and yet somehow, some way, that optimism and excitement triggered you into defending the game yet again. And every time you defend it, I'm going to spell out exactly what's indefensible about it.

That's not true at all. My judgement is on point. I'm simply feeling more forgiving toward its shortcomings now that I know I have what I truly love, and despite how bogus the changes in World are I have a traditional game I love that I can fall back on. Big difference. Before, World added insult to injury because there was zero alternative. You either bow and grovel and accept their new idea about what MH needs to look like to sell big, or you go without. Now, there is an alternative, and that out means I can finally embrace the new game for what it is.

I know you really want to believe that, but the truth is you'll criticize any Nintendo game there is without fail, but any game not on Nintendo you defend with your life. You're just too blinded by your own bias to realize nobody is "unjustly criticizing because it's not on Nintendo". You've been regurgitating that tired old fabricated lie from the onset and it's time we get past it. That's wishful thinking on your part. You forget gamers here have been gaming on all platforms for years. You don't see me "unjustly criticizing" any other game on other platforms. Gosh that's such a lame copout.. Bayonetta 2, one of my favorite games last gen. Platinum goes and makes Nier. You don't see me complaining about it, you see me praising it as one of the best games on the system. Beyond Good & Evil, Tales of Beseria, Okami, Metal Gear Solid, Dragon Quest, Mega Man... all games that left Nintendo and have new games on other platforms, and every single one I have praised.

I wonder how you're going to explain that one since it certainly didn't change platforms during that time. So why was I that excited? The only explanation that makes sense is that I was excited for a traditional entry, and then when I found out it wasn't, I started criticizing the changes... impossible to believe, I know.
So please, get this through your head. I own a PS4 and I got it day one, I also own a Vita that I got day one, and the PSVR that I got day one. If I had a problem with games not being on Nintendo, do you think I would have bought all these systems the very first day they released? Do you think I'd have an Xbox One X preordered? Let's get this sorted right now cause I'm tired of hearing this unfounded accusation. Your evidence? The notion that anyone who takes issue with their favorite series being westernized is clearly just a biased fanboy. Ya... real strong argument there. And the existing fans "coming back glowing" imo are sellouts. People who, all Capcom has to do is dangle a flashy carrot with AAA graphics and theyll bend over and take whatever bastardization Capcom chooses to shove down our throats. And then thank them and ask for more. And then defend the carrot... willingly and unconditionally.
Because, the game does look good. If it didn't, none of us would be here talking about it! The issue isn't whether it's a great game. That is beyond question. The issue is that it's not the same MH we know and love. But man, your unwillingness to concede that Capcom is screwing us, the long time fans (by simplifying system after system and gameplay mechanic after gameplay mechanic) in favor of pandering western sales is mind boggling. It's like the Nintendo fans unwilling to admit the voice app sucks, or that lack of save backups is bogus. And everyone who complains about it is just a "fanboy fishing for complaints". Would it really kill your ego to admit ya, Capcom was bogus to change the skill system to appeal to western gamers? Would it kill your ego to admit ya, there's a number of changes that don't sit well with you? It's ok to like something while calling it for what it is. But the more you desperately defend, the more it makes people wanna blow your biased defense force out of the water, and the more I'm gonna lay the facts on the table for what this game does wrong. At the very least, even if you don't admit these changes are bogus, you could accept that maybe others aren't happy about it and let them speak their mind without challenging every last word they say about it and, singling out anyone unhappy with the changes and accusing them of bias...
But you're far too invested in your defense to back down now. And that's why I know you never will. They could change literally anything at this point and you'd defend it out of compulsion. The sad thing is, I wasn't even attacking the game. I was here happy to look forward to the new direction they're taking with an open mind. In fact I was walking on eggshells specifically trying to not trigger you, knowing how trigger happy you are with this game.
@DarthNocturnal IIRC it was a female great sword hunter in Rathalos armor. I bet she'll have some awesome and outrageously physical attacks. Maybe cats.
Wow, just wow. People got mad at underwater so they made a coral reef area using air currents that allow hunters to swim the skies. This is more than... anything. We also got totally trolled — those 'snowy' armor sets were from the monsters in this zone.
We must have seen six or more new monsters: several new flying wyverns including the flagship. On that note I really don't see the western box art changing, but I'm curious to know more about this weird curvy Diablos-like creature. It's a little ugly to be honest, but the other monsters looked so new and diverse!
Wow looks incredible and the story mode has an epic vibe..stop being salty guys, this is the right direction for the series. Hope it eventually comes to Switch for the portability.
