@Haru17 Haha nice.

Anyway, maybe people here have already discussed this. But hearing about Haru’s main, I’m interested in hearing about your favorite weapon of choice.
Mine is Lance, I love this frikkin thing. It now has even more flexibility and contextual movement than before. (That new spartan blocking move is amazing!) Although I started out in Tri with the GS, Lance is certainly up there together with GS as my main. Having said that I do have to practice the GS again I think, since enough seems to have changed and added.

I play a lot of great sword, but lance is one of my favorites in World. I have the Odogaron one and it looks sick. Used to hate how slow it controlled, but you can enter the charge super quickly now. Poke, poke, poke, step never better! I'm always just a little too slow with the GS' tackle and the counter thrust into power guard, but I keep trying. Kushala is the worst with great sword, lol.

Don't hate me because I'm bnahabulous.

Thinking about GS brings back great memories. Back in the Tri days it was the only weapon I played and I played that game A LOT. Rolling and jumping between the legs of Deviljho and bringing him down without getting touched was great fun. Excited to see what they do with new Joe.

Sounds like the game is doing great. They finally gave us a proper budget game, and if nothing else I will sleep easy knowing I never have to play on 3DS again. Been super thirsty for MH on console with proper controller. Wii U to 3DS was a major downgrade. Loved the games but man... that system just wasn't built for such a game series.

They should port Stories to Switch now. I want to play that game so bad, but just can't muster the will to play 3DS anymore (I salute you 3DS, but your time has passed).

Went from charge blade to blast long sword (love that final move on red focus bar). Gonna try horn soon. Haven't mained horn since 3 Ultimate.

Commenting on previous page. I don't really play online, so I never took notice of that.

Oh my goodness. No way...

@JaxonH Haha, Reddit was freaking out over that last Halloween when the trailer dropped. This will be spoilers up to the quest with Zorah Magdaros, but what I like about the Rotten Vale is...

how the narrative about it being a graveyard for monsters and elder dragons ties into the upper part of the map just being a Dalalamdur skeleton laying at the bottom of a valley. That's also a cool way of showing progression from 4. But not only that, the coolest revelation about the Rotten Vale is how it's literally just the bottom half of the Coral Highlands with corals twisted by the foul vapors and decomposition fueling updrafts that feed and shape the Highlands ecosystem. The winky way the third fleet chief presents that was great, because I actually did have a huge moment of discovery exploring the Vale.

.

Oh, and apparently the update changed it so you will return to the gathering hall when doing quests in a room with people: https://www.reddit.com/r/MonsterHunter/comments/7wffjd/i_dont...

I think those reports might be wrong. A bunch of people there are saying it takes them back to tradeyard no matter what, and even I myself was taken back to tradeyard when playing with my bro.

Idk where this rumor is coming from cause, it most definitely didn't work for me, and I got the item pack they finally sent.

I'll give it another try next time I play online, but I know for a fact we left from gathering hall together the first quest we played and it was no different than before.

Dalamadur was a legit boss fight. One of the best actually. They should add him in to the game. Man I hope they add G rank, although, I'm kinda scared to see G Rank B52 and Jho in the same room together. I barely survive B52 now!

@Tsurii
I didn't. I noticed the head but didn't give it any thought.

Certainly didn't come to the conclusion it was Dalamadur. And I'm pretty sure most people didn't since Japan is just now putting 2 and 2 together.

So do they just name whatever they 'don't understand' as an Elder Dragon? I always assumed it was a name given to either magical or incredibly destructive creatures whose presence could destroy entire ecosystems. I guess the idea is that Nergigante affects Elder Dragons which affects the system but then again. Rajang also feeds on Kirin (an Elder Dragon), but is classified as just a normal monster. I'm not done with the game, so maybe they'll reveal more as it goes on. Maybe he'll pull a Magala.

Side Note: Does this game tell you you can’t capture Nergigante during your first full fight with him?

Aww, I think the new version of Kirin is plenty fun. Just use elderseal, wear the thunderproof mantle, and eat nullberries to prevent stuns. And it's in both low and high rank.

And Kirin makes more sense as an elder dragon because it's a Qilin — a real life myth about a dragon taking the form of a horse — with the unicorn and thunder elements added. You don't really see this in World, but giant snakes, whales, squid, and random creatures of a certain power level get called dragons along with 'dragon' body type creatures with the requisite amount of wings and legs. Of course, that sort of falls apart since Rajang is supposed to be as powerful as an elder dragon but is a fanged beast. Maybe that's because they knew how to classify it? I don't know, it's kinda shaky.

JaxonH

New version of Kirin is basically old version of Kirin. He prances around, your attacks bounce off of him and he shoots lightning to the ground.

He's definitely not my favorite monster but I don't know if I go so far as to say he's not fun. It's definitely frustrating though. That's for dang sure. I never really liked fighting him in previous games and I don't like fighting him now.

But as Haru said, thunderproof mantle (although, that's actually a catch 22 because you don't get the thunderproof mantle until you beat Kirin). Nulberries are a must. Eat for Elemental Resistance (L). I believe he's in vulnerable to traps also. Certainly shock, not sure about pitfall.

If you're an elder dragon, you're immune to traps. Period. It's probably the only reason Gore Magala was classified ''???'' in gen 4, despite technically being one on account of being the younger version of Shagaru Magala, which IS classified as such and has the immunity.

My palico spent so long wearing the Watcher gear that I forgot how cute it was.

Also, Nergigante was tough. It kept catching me out by standing up and slamming down while I was trying to recover from a previous attack. I couldn't slay it with my Hunting Horn, but just managed it with Sword and Shield.

Just found my next high rank set.

Gonna use the following:

Head Bazelgeuse B
Chest Legiana B
Arms Tobi Kodachi A
Waist Bazelgeuse B
Legs Ingot B

Which will, along with my Defense Lv 3 charm and Defense Lv 1 weapon decoration, grant:

329 Base Lv Defense
Defense Boost Lv 6
Earplugs Lv 4
Evade Window Lv 2
Evade Extend Lv 2
3 slot
3 slot
1 slot
1 slot
2 slot

Which, I don't have a whole bunch of good decorations, yet, but I will slowly fill those slots up and get my last point in Earplugs, raise my Evasion and defense, and tag in whatever else I can manage.

It may not be end game end game, but it'll do until I can make one final set when I'm truly end game. That all said this one is going to take a while. Gonna need TWO Legiana gems and a Bazelgeuse gem. Among other materials.

Most importantly, the set looks super dope. For a mixed set you can't even really tell. It honestly looks as good as some of the complete sets. So I am most definitely committed to this... even if it takes me several weeks to accomplish.

@Tsurii Just fought it as well. Yeah, it sucks. Looks flashy, but can hardly hit it because the only targets are its legs (which are spread out a lot) and it moves around way too much. Heck, it doesn't even hit terribly hard compared to the stuff Teostra and Kushala drop on you; it's just drawn out and boring.

It’s funny how apparently Nergigante was incapable of feeding on other Elder Dragons within the Elder Recess. Makes sense why it just follows Magdora around then. So it can be somewhat of a buzzer.

Can I just say I love Elder's Recess. They did a good job on that map. Not even sure it's my second favorite, maybe my third, but it's just a really solid volcano map. Like I said before, all the maps are good (mainly just having decent graphics and being larger/more intricate), but Ancient Forest is so far beyond the rest. I've kinda learned Wildspire Waste and Rotten Vale, kinda learning Coral Highlands, but Ancient Forest is still a labrynth to me. Without those scout flies I'd be totally lost.

Just got the quest for Nergigante. But I won't be fighting him for quite some time because I just unlocked 4 new optional quests under 7 star, and an entire page of optional quests under 8 star (or maybe it was 6 star and 7 star, I can't remember). It's going to take a long time to do all these optional quests and then farm materials and then take on Nerg.

Unless... (and maybe people farther along can chime in), is there any advantage to just push forward and clear Nergigante, Kushala and whatever else comes afterward? Or am I good chilling where I'm at for a week or two

I dig how Nergigante's habitat (?) is between the white crystal and the volcanic expanse, rendering it these razor sharp spires of jagged obsidian crystal. It's a really good mesh of monster design and environment design. I think almost every map but the Coral Highlands could have benefited from being the size of the Ancient Forest, and it isn't quite as satisfying to move through the areas in the Elder's Recess as it was the last volcano map, Volcano 3rd, in terms of scale and progression but it fits a lot of unique scenery and gameplay elements into a modest-sized map.

I have a few problems though First, the graphics for the quartz crystals don't strike me as on par with the rest of the game. Sometimes they look too plasticy and opaque. Secondly, it makes no sense for the gunner plants to be sprouting out of obsidian or burning ground. They look out of place in a lot of areas, but here it's particularly pronounced. I was also a little disappointed that there wasn't much endemic life or small monsters, it felt a lot less lived-in than the other areas. And I understand the perspective that it's supposed to feel like the ends of the earth, and if so: why are there any small monsters at all?

My last point concerns the giant crystal spire — unlike the Ancient Tree, it's all out-of-bounds scenery. The Sandy Plains' giant tree, Wildspire Waste's giant Wildspire, and all of 4th gen's scenery are similarly dissatisfying. Like, when you see something unique and grand in a game, you want to go to it, right? Not just up to the edge of it, but into the center, or up to the top so you feel like you've fully experienced it. I really like the crystal environmental elements they added, but there definitely could have been more. For one, sliding down a diagonal quartz crystal above an abyss was very cool, but it was only in a non-combat area. Like, I want to fight Rathalos on that! It would have been preferable for the giant quartz tower to be a hollow area of the map, and to be able to climb up through a similar hollow atrium area to the Ancient Tree before fighting Kushala at the jagged peak overlooking the entire map.

Don't hate me because I'm bnahabulous.
