Kushala Daora was the first hunt I ran out of time on. I had trouble getting near him let alone doing enough damage to take him down. The only Monster so far that I haven't taken down at least once solo yet. I called in a SOS got that over with and haven't hunted him since.
I could probably do it solo now but really don't want to...
The monsters, as usual, are huge damage sponges, but that's fine. It's Mon Hun.
The two main monsters I don't enjoy to fight are Zorah Magdorus and Legiana (love its style). Zorah is just boring and Legiana stays way too long in the air. I really dislike it in games when enemies spend too much time out of reach. It becomes tedious.
On a side note, the guns in this game are great, but require lots of maintenance. It seems sort of dumb that they have to continuously restock on limited ammo while blades, hammers, etc have unlimited sharpening capabilities. Seems lopsided.
So, I usually enjoy Monster Hunter's giant, siege-style boss battles and end bosses. I really liked Jhen for its time, Ceadeus / Nakarkos / Gogmazios are some of the best battles in the series if you ask me, and I really dig Zorah Magdaros' ambition even if there are still some kinks in the colossal boss formula.
I like the final boss' lore and design, but the actual fight wore thin for me while farming the equipment. It's just... kinda tiring in a series prone to fatiguing its players with constant boss battles. May have something to do with how difficult it is for me to land roundslashes and great sword charges, 'cause jeez.
I agree with most points here. Especially the online hub which feels empty and that’s weird because we have never had this much people in a single “room”.
That video is dead on. I can live with lame weapon variety, not the end of the world. And the wacky defaults (once it's fixed it's fixed, no biggie).
But the gathering hall not being the default area you return to after an online quest, it's inexplicable. We're supposed to be a close knit family. No community like the MH community. But it just doesn't feel like a community anymore because we are no longer congregating in game. 16 players in a session doesn't mean squat if you're never together and constantly swapping hunting partners. Better off with 4 hunters that stick together and come back together like before.
If they just fixed online where you can join a friend without sending a system invite which results in restarting the software without saving, and sent you back to gathering hall after online hunts, and lowered B52's appearing rate by like... 80% I'd be totally happy. Well, they could also allow for permanent scout fly upgrades.
The Zorah Mag fight lost its appeal to me when I had no idea what was going on and where I was supposed to go. MH is at its best when fighting, but the actual process of chasing a monster is when it grinds to a halt. I don't usually find it fun chasing a monster around the map. Especially in cases of flying monsters, where the scoutflies piss me off.
Weapon design and armor design are basically what I like most. The lack of variety was a big blow for me, and I regret playing as a girl. My sister asked me to, but so far, the girl armors don't stand out as much as the guys. A lot of them scream Japanese too.
Me and my bro just hunted for a few hours. Kept getting errors so it took us like 45 minutes to finally join up.
But once we did we had some crazy quests together. Man. Fighting Rathian and Rathalos and Bazelguese were both in the same area most of the fight. Wherever Rathian went... those two would follow.
That was absolutely insane

@Haru17 Capcom's number is shipped (sold to retailers) and digital. The Japanese sales charts are physical copies only, sold to customers. So the actual number is a bit higher in Japan. I'd say around 5-5.5 million sold to customers worldwide, and around 2 million (including digital) in Japan.
@Octane The tweet says shipped copies. I'm not familiar with Media Create though, I linked the source so people could find out themselves. In any case though, I'm quite heartened with how it's doing in Japan. The content will filter out to more people through portable rereleases and new versions, but I'm sure the core audience is already there in the launch window numbers.
@Haru17 Yeah, that's true, but when companies talk about games 'shipped', they're talking about the copies sold to retailers and digital copies. Media Create tracks (/estimates) retail copies sold to customers, they don't track digital. Either way, it's doing pretty well everywhere. I didn't expect the game to do this well. And the PC version isn't even out yet.
The update today was to fix the issue and allow people to claim it. Also, nerf slicing shot and rebalance other ammo types because we CAN have nice things now!

Cool. I'll keep an eye out for the items next time I play it.
I haven't been online yet so not sure on that experience yet it's usually pretty awesome, but I don't see the need for anymore than 4 a room. I cleared story mode the other day I did as many quests as I could before hand. I was getting pretty burned out. I was thinking something is missing. I'm just not feeling the love of the hunt "as" much I love Asteria though and everything. Some of the hunts are just cheap as H. I finally got my HG earplug set and all is well in the world. LOL Two things I hate in this game is roars, and catching on fire ( well poison isn't any fun either). If you hate fire like me add three fire res. jewels and you get a 10+ defense boost to boot. So now I don't catch on fire and I don't stop the action from roars. Also got my Kinsect to have longer lasting boost ( long swords, duals as well switch axe ect.). Spoiler alert to some its an armor skill not any Kinsect. Plus some attack boost I got going on. Its actually more powerful than going for all attack because i'm more calm, and I have way more time to DPS. Another thing I thought was bad was not having razor sharp thinking on that but would need a good earplug charm plus I would loose some damage output. Depending on the weapon its certainly gonna be a set to try out. So I'm back into it. The HG earplugs makes all the difference in the world for me. I was getting really annoyed and it was getting just down right grueling to do some of these. Especially when you get trolled with three HG roaring monsters about every hunt. Time to relax and wreck stuff now.
Slicing shot made bowguns the pariah of the launch window. You should be glad it's weaker and will knock your teammates around less. I'm a long sword main, but jeez it was annoying. And I already said the other shot types got a buff.
@Haru17 Longsword huh. I might have come across you today if you, like me, use your nlife username for your palico. I tested out the bowgun today so I might have been a bit annoying
So I didn’t even notice you could turn left at the workshop and take in a nice view. ^^
