Ya, on the bright side timed exclusivity deals are only temporary. I can deal with that. They said it's coming to multiple platformS (plural) after a short timed exclusivity (they sent backers another email after the backlash). That can only mean Xbox and Switch, since that's the only other platforms left to pluralize (unless theres a Stadia release which I very highly doubt).

Its aggravating though. I see they paid off a good half dozen bigger games for exclusivity (well, on consoles anyways, all of them still coming to PC, so for me it's a mostly non issue since that's my platform, and almost none of them would come to Switch anyways).

I'll just be thankful PC has remained largely unscathed by these Sony timed exclusivity deals. Every now and then it is, like Final Fantasy VII Remake, but that's typically the exception rather than the rule. It has Epic to deal with though so it's not completely out of the woods. Still, it would be a lot worse if MS was heavily paying off timed exclusives as much as Sony. And it would definitely be worse if PC wasnt typically excluded from such deals.

But again, as long as PC is typically excluded, and when it's not it's still only temporary, I can live with it. I dont like it, but I can live with it. Time marches on and once a game is everywhere, nobody will remember the short lived exclusivity anymore. The key is learning to wait for a game to come to your platform rather than rushing out to buy it somewhere else just because they have exclusive rights for 6-12 months and you feel you need it right away. That just feeds the cycle and encourages the behavior even more.

I see a future where this becomes much worse though. Sony's actions will force Microsoft's hand and soon they'll be outbidding each other to see who can buy off the most games. It's not gonna be pretty. Just hope they leave PC and Switch out of the trenches. Switch not so much because alot of the games can't run on it anyways, but every now and then there's one (like Little Devil Inside).

@JaxonH Maybe Xbox One and Series X? They're weird on Nintendo platforms, they're still listing Wii U instead of Switch.

I dunno, it feels like a competition that never stopped. MS also bought exclusivity for a fair number of indie games I was looking forward to; like Tunic, Sable and The Last Night. As I don't think I'll get an Xbox console anytime soon, that sucks. But hopefully they make their way onto Switch or PS at some point. Problem is that at this point stopping the exclusivity shenanigans means giving the other party a head start, so both will continue doing this I think. I personally rather see them invest in brand new studios or something along those lines.

Studio investments are legit. Timed exclusively feels like an utter waste. Like, people know the runaround now from it happening so much, and know the games are releasing elsewhere after a certain time frame, so they know they can just wait. Like me with Final Fantasy VII. I was under no delusion it would be a permanent exclusive so it was easy to hold off for Steam. Or with Outer Worlds, Metro Exodus, Borderlands 3 or Control on Epic Game Store. Knew it was just temporary so I wishlist them and wait for an email telling me they're available.

Guess I should count my blessings because permanent exclusives are SO much worse. Games that would have otherwise released elsewhere, but a bribe ensures they don't.

@JaxonH It depends. When a publisher makes an investment, it's hard to say that game would've been the same if they didn't. So I find it difficult to comment on. It's complicated, but at least most games make their way onto other platforms at some point.

And I'm not sure about that. Not everyone waits, and I guess it has to be profitable, otherwise companies wouldn't be doing this.

Plenty of gamers do have both PS & XBox, so they'd get whichever exclusives, whether timed or otherwise, on the platform .... Others choose which console primarily on that, so it must work well for them

@Octane
Its profitable more in some respects than others, I think. Like, how many Xbox players are going to buy a PS just because some mode is exclusive for a month? And if they already own a PS but simply wanted to play on Xbox, then ok, Sony won a game sale. But how does that really benefit them? No way the royalties from the extra sales offset the millions paid in the deal.

I think it's just image and branding more than anything else. And no one game is profitable by itself but overall, combined, it projects an image of having way more exclusive games than they actually do, which can sway minds when it comes to which console to purchase. It's a macro level tactic more than a micro one, imo. And during a launch, convincing people you will have more games than the other guy is crucial, so they buy up some temporary exclusives to give the illusion of having more during a critical decision making period for the consumer.

But on their own, I cant imagine the actual benefits offsetting what has to be an absurdly high price.

Pretty cool, the devs don't post a lot, but they did find time to record this I guess:

A better translation for the release in Spanish would be "tierras salvajes"
A literal one will be "Pequeños demonios dentro"

@Magic_jump What's the difference?

Also, kinda strange how it hasn't been shown during a State of Play lately. I expected more new. It's still slated for this year, but I bet it will see a delay.

It can take it’s time, because it seems to be paying off so far.

@Snatcher The most recent trailer looked pretty dope. Not what I was expecting, but I don't another open world game right now, so that's fine.

It's just weird it went AWOL again, after getting a 2022 release date, especially with a large publisher backing the game. Though Sony isn't great at communicating lately either, so that seems like a good match.

Snatcher

@Octane I agree, after finally getting some stuff on it, it let us yet again, hopefully we see something by the end of the year.

@Octane Do you bump this thread every 6 months just to make sure the thread doesn't get archived?

As someone who originally funded this game as a Wii U exclusive back in the earlier years of the 2010's decade, I'm just amused at how many console generations will ultimately pass before it comes to a Nintendo console like it was Kickstarted for.

Wii U
Switch
Switch 2 (earliest possible release, 3 generations in)

I imagine it'll hit Switch 2, 3 generations in from the original kickstarter as a Wii U exclusive, and only after a PS5 release, PS6 port, Xbox Series port, Steam release (AFTER getting paid by EPIC for an exclusivity window, of course) and the Amazon Luna.

Then, and only then, will backers potentially get the game they funded for Nintendo.
