Hey guys, I was wondering if the PSP is worth it. I want one, but how long will support continue after the Vita comes out? I don't care about the Vita; after paying $250 for a 3DS with a second Circle Pad on the way I think I'll pass. However, their are a lot of games I am interested for the PSP, and I have read about all it's features and will probally take advantage of each of them. What do you think?

I recently got a PSP 3000, and I think it's worth it just for Monster Hunter Freedom Unite alone. I'm not saying that's the only reason to get one, but if there area a lot of games you're interested in getting for the system, why not? Plus, don't forget about Sony's online store.

If you add me, I need to at least know you or I won't add you back.

If you're going to spend the money for a PSP, why not just save a little longer and get the Vita. Then you can play the PSP games you want on it as WELL as the Vita games. I'm sure support for PSP is already ramping down with Vita on the way and it will get worse once the Vita releases.

Plain old gamer :)

I'm unsure about the Vita. The 3DS is getting another Circle Pad, so I don't think I care about the two Circle Pads on Vita. The only game I really care about is Uncharted, and Sony seems to be taking out a lot of extra features the PSP had. Do you think it would be better value to buy a PSP 1000?

It's worth it. Especially if you like JRPGs and unique, quirky games (Loco Roco, Patapon, etc.). Some stores have been selling the 3000 model for $99 now if you can find it.

Playing devil's advocate for the Vita... If many of the PSP games you want to play are already on the Playstation Network, they will be backwards compatible with the Vita and you'll be able to utilize the second analog stick with them. It depends on your preference. If many of the games you want are indeed on the PSN, then it might be worthwhile for you to skip the PSP and use that money for the Vita.

I don't know if Sony is going to continue the retail distribution (UMDs) of PSP games once the Vita comes out because of the Vita using a different software format (flash card) but PSP games are constantly being added to the PSN Store for download.

YES.

i don't think there is as much great game's on the psp, then the ds, but it has enough to keep you going.
here is some game's that are worth buying.
Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep.
megaman powered up.
castlevania dracula x chronicles. (come's with an upgraded version of symphony of the night)
ratchet & clank size matters.
metal gear solid: peace walker.
loco roco.
monster hunter.
little big planet.
grand theft auto china town wars.
and there also alot of collection game's to, like capcom, sega, metal slug, gradius. power stone.
even if you don't get a psp, it wont be the end of the world, but there are some great game's you will miss out on.

Sony seems to be taking out a lot of extra features the PSP had.

Exactly what are they removing besides the psp to tv thing?

I think the PSP was a nice little device but i agree exactly what Corbs said. Wait for the Vita.

Well, Sony still supports the PS2. So probably a while, but you should wait for the Vita, it will be waaay better if you don't mind the price. But if you're on a budget the PSP should be good.

My SD Card with the game on it is just as physical as your cartridge with the game on it.
I love Nintendo, that's why I criticize them so harshly.

But yes, in terms of content the PSP is great.

And also won't work on Vita. So download is better value, since you can continue to play it on Vita.

You're twisting his argument, the fact that UMD's will not function on Vita is not at all a strength of its system.

You are what you eat from your head to your feet.

Waltz has good points for getting a Vita and downloading, but there are positives to a PSP with UMDs.

First off, the PSP is a lot cheaper, as are the UMDs, generally. Next, yes, the fact you can play the more expensive downloadable versions on the PSV is a huge positive... if you actually want a Vita. If you just want to play PSP games, get a PSP and buy UMDs. It's a ton cheaper. if you are interested in Vita games, get a Vita and download the PSP titles you want. I, personally, am not very interested in the Vita's lineup of titles at the moment. I pray it doesn't end up like the PSP, which took forever to get any games I actually wanted to play.

It really is that simple. If you think there will be a decent mount of Vita games, wait for the Vita. You seem to be on the fence, and I can't really help you decide because I'm not you. Regardless. the PSP has an amazing collection of dirt-cheap games. Let's see what I can list off the top of my head.

Patapon 1, 2 & 3
Monster Hunter Freedom & Freedom Unite
Final Fantasy IV Collection
Dissidia & Dissidia Duodecim (If you get a Dissidia game, get the second. You can unlock the original's adventure at the very end, iirc)
Little Big Planet
Star Ocean 1 & 2
Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker
Loco Roco 1 & 2
Final Fantasy Tactics: War of the Lions
Disgaea 2: Dark Hero Days
Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep
Ratchet and Clank: SM
Secret Agent Clank
Jak and Daxter: The Lost Frontier
Valkyria Chronicles II
Yggdrasil Union
Knights in the Nightmare

I own most of these, and got almost all of them for $10-20. The PSP has many more good games than people give it credit for.
