Back in the late '90s, there was a series of racing games called Carmageddon. Most of them weren't exactly great (Carmageddon 64 was particularly terrible, and Carmageddon TDR 2000 was so bad that even the official site won't talk about it) - but a few, most notably Carmageddon 2 on PC, were quite a lot of fun. Tasteless, silly, morally bankrupt fun with its brow so low it was a wonder it could see out of the windscreen, what with its emphasis taken away from the racing and put heavily on the murder of pedestrians, penguins and other competitors (and murder of pedestrians as a result of murder of competitors). But fun none the less.

So, I'm rather glad to hear that the series is due to make its return with Carmageddon Reincarnation, and back in original developer Stainless Games' hands (5 of the 8 people involved in Carmageddon 1 are still there, so it's not an in-name-only 'original developer' scenario either). It'll be a digital release on various platforms. None confirmed yet, but will most likely appear on XBLA. I'd like to see it come to Steam, personally.

Well with the Burnout series taking a turn for the worse these past few years, I'm glad a title like Carmageddon steps up the plate to provide senseless, over-the-top arcade vehicular action.
Though like you said, there have been awful games in the series, so I'm keeping a very skeptical eye on this.
