What's this bit for again?

Best FPS? Well, I started blasting things with Wolfenstein 3d, but when Doom shareware got released I played it and was blown away! So I got the full version right away, that would have to be my favorite FPS for nostalgic reasons. Obviously I was hooked on Doom II (playing it now on XBLA, it's still awesome to this day! Super Shotty FTW!) I played hours upon hours of Quake, Quake II (PC) and Quake III Arena (Dreamcast, soooo much better than the PS2 version IMO). I played the hell out of Half-Life, which was amazing. Then there was Unreal Tournament(s), F.E.A.R., Prey,.... So many to choose from.
Well, for single player I would have to go with Bioshock as best FPS. I could say why, but if you played it you already know why. For those that haven't played it; Shame on you! (you know who you are.)
For Multiplayer I would say Halo 3... most likely to be changed to Halo Reach when it gets released though. The MP Beta was amazing! But for Co-op multiplayer, I think Borderlands takes it for me. BL was made with Co-op multiplayer in mind and it shows!

Now playing:
(Wii - DJ Hero 2) (WiiWare / VC - -- / --)
(Game Cube - Second Sight) (DS / GBA - Eragon / --)
(Xbox360 - Burnout Paradise) (XBLA / XBIG - Puzzle Quest / --)

Metroid Prime (first game) if that counts as FPS. Otherwise it would have to be either Half life 2 or Bioshock. Turok 2: Seeds of Evil gets a honorable mention

Just picking one is too hard.
Bioshock, Half Life 2 (I have to leave the original out just because of the last part of the game), Halo 2, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Doom.

And for something out of left field I'm going to add Breakdown.

Nope. It felt out of place and badly designed compared to the rest of the game. Don't get me wrong, it's still a top-notch game. I just wished the game ended a chapter or two earlier.

Fair enough, but I thought it was supposed to feel out of place and somewhat alien. Xenophobia. Also, I don't know what you mean by 'badly designed', everything worked well.

It was one of the biggest surprises I've ever had in gaming, the cherry on the cake so to speak. Love that place!

I never made it to Xen, because the game devolved into incredible boredom a few hours into the endless desert scenery and soldier battles. The beginning was strong, but it just felt like any other FPS after you get so far into it. Half Life 2, on the other hand, is a game that delivers on what the early scenes promise.

I did not see The Conduit in this thread..

Yes you did. Check post 8. They said they enjoyed The Conduit.

Actually I agree with them. The Conduit is a really fun FPS. I spent around 130 hours on it and found more laughs and "WTF?'s" in it than Halo by myself and /or with friends.

So I like a game you guys don't and that makes me a bad person or something?

@40 Don't you dare say that ever again. GoldenEye started something, and so did Perfect Dark. Those two, and Halo, I would say are the best FPS games ever. In my opinion. I respect your opinion, WaveBoy, but that doesn't mean I have to like it.

I miss having a chatroom that was always in beta.

@Chrono Cross: Dude, wtf! I post a small facepalm smiley and you think I'm calling you a bad person? :/

I 'liked' The Conduit too, but it doesn't belong in any 'Best' threads. That is all.

Nah it just seems like "oh my god someone likes The Conduit more than another FPS grabs pitchfork ". Everyone on this site hates The Conduit and says this and says that about it and you posted a facepalm which was directly pointed at me which was kind of offensive.

And in my own opinion (which opinions are what is 95% of the time posted in forums if you didn't know this by now) is that The Conduit was a really good game.

Bioshock, hands down. Never before has there ever been a game as immersive or as fun.

No need to get defensive dude. Just assume the other person has poor tastes and move on. Especially if all they're gonna say is "This game sucks" and "It doesn't belong on any best game list PERIOD." Those kinda people just ain't worth the time.

I'm going to cheat and list several games

Half-Life 1 and 2
Deus Ex
TimeSplitters 2
Metroid Prime
Portal
Team Fortress 2
Perfect Dark
GoldenEye
Jedi Outcast
Whatever Doom game I played...I can't remember if it was 1 or 2
I want to list Fallout 3 but I only spent five minutes with it...but they were a great five minutes.

Though I don't consider Metroid Prime, Deus Ex and Portal to be pure FPS's...particularly Portal. I consider it a first-person puzzle game really.

Slapshot

@Masz.... ah. Another Deus Ex fan... Not many of us lol.

Ive yet to play The Conduit. I dont care what anyone says, Red Steel was really fun. I actually played through it 3 times. It took a lot of control tweaking but I enjoyed it. Ive yet to buy the second one as Im really trying to push through the 10 games I own and havent played yet. Im really curious about grabbing The Conduit on the cheap, is anyone still playing it online? Let me guess friend codes if so?

Some of my other fav FPS that I have seen mentioned!

Borderlands (2nd Fav)
Delta Force Black Hawk Down PC (is what got me into FPS games and Online Multiplayer and its fantastic)
Soldier of Fortune
Black
Wolfenstien XBOX
Fallout 3
Red Steel
Tom Clancy games starting with PSone

Pretty much anything made by Valve that isn't Left 4 Dead (I just didn't like it.)
The Bioshock series
Deus Ex
Fallout 3 if it counts, but it's more RPG then FPS
Oh, and the Halo series. I don't care what anyone says, they are all fun games that pretty much anybody can get into, with some of the best weapons in any FPS.
