@JaxonH: Hey, that's a very good level, hard but fair. I still need to find more secrets but I guess I'll do it later. The only "bad" thing for me it's how the level punishes you whenever you try to use the cape to find other secrets, wich is something I don't like in my Mario levels (I'm looknig at you Lost Levels).

Besides that, your level is great.

Here's a little motivation for you- there are many secrets, many shortcuts and many things hidden. But there is one super, master secret with the cape.

The motherload, so to speak. But you'll have to earn it, for it is very, very well hidden.

EDIT: That's actually a perspective which never even crossed my mind. Obviously there are hidden things to find in any ghost house, and naturally people will search all kinds of nooks and crannies. I should have taken this into account and made it more "search friendly".

Perhaps something I'll keep in mind next time.

@JaxonH: I'll try my best to find that ultimate secret then!

And yeah, that's just a way to see through this kind of levels, it isn't wrong per se, it just makes the player a little more affraid of searching for those hidden paths/items.

Btw, I'll check your other levels and give some feedback if I can.

Even that which you just told me, that's invaluable actually. You're spot on and that's something I'll definitely be keeping in mind for any future levels.

@Robin_Aisaga: Finally beat it, the "worst" part was passing the confined space. After realising you could spin jump towards the fire flower, it only took 3 tries to beat the rest of the level (after making it this far again, obviously, which was still very difficult), though the part after the Hammer Bro was quite evil too!

I can see why Nintendo has gone the route of making games "easy" and family friendly. Very few people have the concept down to intertwine challenge and fun. There are so many awful levels I see... either it will start off good with a challenging obstacle, but once you get through it, THAT is all that's left and the stage is over. Or just when a stage is getting good and you think the person making it put a lot of knack into it and know what they're doing but the stage is far too short.

And the worst are ones who make it so difficult, I don't think they even realize it. You playing a stage you made, and someone else who everything will be foreign to, isn't going to always react how you want them to, unless you give them a reason to.

I honestly find maybe one in 10 stages I would consider good and give stars to. You can telll who spent hours fine-crawfing their stage, even down to the little things, and who whipped something up within 30-45 minutes and threw in some gimmicks to try and spruce it up.

Overall, the level makers I've seen on 100 Mario Challenge are mediocre, with some potential great makers showing up every once in a while .

I can see where you're coming from but I don't think I agree with a lot of what you've said. Personally I think some of the best levels are the ones that people did only spend 30mins or so on. Levels where someone has come up with one clear idea and carried it through. Most of the really intricate levels? I kinda get lost in them. You can see the effort they've put into it but it's not what I'd call "fun".

I find myself when creating levels getting a bit carried away sometimes. Some of the worst levels I've made are the longer ones. And not just because those levels haven't got as many stars but also because I didn't like them as much. I think you need to strike a balance. Play with people's expectations and make it long enough that it's not over as soon as it has started. But don't troll people too much, don't make it too long. And if you are going to make it hard don't make them repeat the same, long easy sections of your level.

So...I seem to be making more than I am playing, but I just cant help it - have made 16 levels now and my next 4 levels are going to be part in a series, the first of which will be uploaded tonight after work once I have put the hours into it - shall then be uploading a new level in the series every day until the final in the quadrilogy - if you follow/heart me on the system you will then be able to see when new ones are added ^_^ - hoping to do this "story" and then a couple of other different ones then another 4 part story the following week..

In the mean time, here are the 16 others I have made, they are varying degrees of quality and difficulty, but am hoping from now on to just due pure quality works - here they are in order of made by date (first to last):

@Lycidas: The second part isn't as difficult. Though one foolish mistake and you have to start all over from the beginning, The pressure can really get to you.

Anyway you did it man o_o Now I can't claim to be the best Mario Bros player on NintendoLife anymore.

Good morning! Longtime Nintendo Life fan, first time poster. (Been lurking the forums for awhile checking out people's levels, and I must say that I'm severely impressed.)

Here are a few of the levels I've created in Super Mario Maker so far:
"SMB3: Watch Your Step Cavern" - 2A4E-0000-0028-7052
"NSMB: Lava Ride Castle" - 9EC9-0000-0028-7714
"SMB: Up, Up, and Away" - 572D-0000-0028-8657
"NSMB: Slip and Slide Cave Climb" - DF3B-0000-0032-1BE2
"SMB: Kid Icarus Retro Homage" - 238C-0000-003F-945B

The first 3 are more like typical levels you might see in a Mario game - hidden blocks, sublevels, etc. Just good old platforming fun.
The 4th one is a tad more challenging and will test some of your platforming skills. Also, I used some of the special effects in SMM to add to it.
The last one, I hadn't created an amiibo level yet, so I did a "tip of the hat" to old school Kid Icarus with the Pit amiibo. It's not too hard at all, but fun. Couldn't really do the thing in the original Kid Icarus where the screen wrapped, but I wanted to use the verticality, doors, and try to create the right atmosphere in parts.
