I’m starting this for my first time tonight. I’m not a hardcore Zelda player, my buddy told me to avoid the Devine Beasts and: Explore tons, finish all the shrines, etc. to upgrade myself as much as I can. Then take the Beasts out. He said if you take out Beasts early it makes the enemies harder. Is that true?
Any recommendations on keeping the game as the “standard” increase in difficulty? Let me say, lol, I’m not necessarily afraid it will be too hard. I just don’t want to escalate enemies faster than I need to.
@CTmatic The enemies are set strengths throughout the game. You actually get bonuses from the divine beasts that help, so I’m not sure what your friend meant.
For example, the Lynel at Shatterback point will be the same Lynel before and after you beat the divine beast in zora’s domain.

@HobbitGamer that's not entirely true, OP is actually correct. I just don't remember the details. I'm not even sure whether it's the divine beasts triggering the increase in difficulty or just progression in general.
@gcunit yeah that's what I'd recommend too. I do remember that I started fighting the Lynels too late and that almost all of them turned silver. That must have been because of the beasts.
I'd suggest just playing through the game as you wish. The divine beasts do help with exploring. I have beat the game several times now. Currently doing a self imposed challenge which has definitely brought a new light to the game for me. Although I'd recommend just completing the game first to get an idea of how to play before taking on such challenges.
My advice to get best experience would be take your time and don't use fast travel. The game is amazing if it clicks for you.
My understanding is that enemies become tougher the more you defeat. It has nothing to do with the divine beasts. Once you hit certain thresholds of enemies defeated, the blood moon will spawn in higher color levels. But the game will also spawn better gear in the world depending on enemies defeated. So by the time you see silver enemies you'll also find royal tier weapons everywhere. The game actually gets considerably easier, not harder, as you play.
@CTmatic
Do you mean catch lightning bugs/fireflies in BOTW? If so, those scare off unless you move slowly, or wear stealth armor. Stealth armor is sold in kakariko village. It lets you sneak up on bugs, animals, and enemies.

@CTmatic above, or unless you are referring to Electric Keese. These can be killed by a well placed bomb. Probably the most effective way I found. Same with the Fire/Ice Keese.
