The PS4 version launched earlier this week in Murica. Its been fairly well received, although perhaps not as well as VIII. The main criticism appears to be the drab, overly grey city you spend so much of your time in. But the combat and rpg system sound like winners again.

Anywho, I believe the Switch version release window is still TBD, late-Q2 or early-Q3 maybe.

Can't wait.

@Magician I've almost finished Ys VIII, and it's such a good game. One of the best RPGs I've played in a while.

I ordered Ys IX on PS4 yesterday, so hopefully I'll be playing it soon.

Finished Ys VIII, and had a great time. Best JRPG I've played since the original Xenoblade.

I've just started Ys IX, the graphics have certainly seen an improvement. There have been quite a few references to previous games in the first hour. So if you've played other Ys games, you'll get a kick out of that

@Magician I've played a good chunk of the game now, and I'd say it's very good. The city first appears a bit on the bland side, but by the 3rd chapter you'll have unlocked a lot of the movement options, which makes moving around the city a lot of fun.

You do get to go outside the city a bit, but the highlight for me are the dungeons which lead into the prison. They're fun to make your way through. They're like the ones Dana goes through in Ys VIII but a lot more fun(because of all the movement options).

A minor quibble some of the characters are a bit annoying. You've got one who is generic edgy, and one with an annoying anime girl voice(Adult putting on a kids voice, for someone whose meant to be a teenager)

@Snaplocket I agree, the issue I have with Nier, Xenoblade X and 2 is I don't like the combat.

My issue with the first Xenoblade is It's too long, and I don't like where the plot goes once you get to the bridge between the two titans. Environments and soundtrack are amazing though.

Very excited. I've got the LE from NIS America on order. One of the oldest (even older than Final Fantasy), longest running series of rpgs. Don't skip.

I'll definitely be buying this sooner than later. Physical copies of VIII became scarce in North America before too long, presumably because this series is somewhat niche. I wound up importing a UK copy as they weren't being flogged over MSRP yet.

Currently playing: Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story + Bowser Jr's Journey, Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana (Switch)

Finished Ys IX on PS4, and I really enjoyed it. I think I preferred Ys VIII overall but it's really close.

Just got the invoice for the LE from NISA. Less than month until the Switch version arrives. This summer is beginning in an amazing way. Expensive, but...amazing. It makes me curious as to what Falcom might be working on now that the Switch version has gone gold?

@Magician Well, probably that new Kiseki sequel they revealed a while back. Falcom isn't involved with development for the Switch ports at all.

Idk if this was mentioned already but I'm sure it got buried under all the E3 hype. It looks like there's a demo for Ys IX on the eShop now!

Add me on switch if you like Xenoblade :)

Yo, where’s the hype!!!

This game is nearly upon us. Friday, I do believe. And nobody is talking about it.

I know Monster Hunter Stories 2 releases the same day, and that’s sucking all the attention, and we just got Mario Golf, Tony Hawk, Disgaea and a Neo: TWEWY demo… but it feels like this game is nonexistent.

At least it’s jumped from #900 to under #300 on Amazon

Who got the collector edition?.

@JaxonH It's coming out a bit earlier in NA, my copy from Amazon is set to arrive on Tuesday! I loved Ys VIII so I'm pretty hyped for this one.

It's a little conflicting trying to decide what to play though, with everything being released this month. Right now I'm trying to get to the new content in the Switch version of TWEWY before the sequel comes out, and the physical version of Kaze and the Wild Masks just came out so that should arrive in the mail soon too.

In terms of new releases this month, on top of Ys IX I'll be picking up MH Stories 2, Cris Tales, Skyward Sword HD, The Great Ace Attorney, and NEO: TWEWY. By the time I finish TWEWY I'll probably have both Ys IX and MH Stories 2, but not sure which of the two I want to start with.

@Cynas
They’re both huge RPGs. I think I’ll spend more time in MH Stories 2, to be perfectly honest, but we’ll see. I’ll be going back and forth between them.

Lot of games coming out. I’m also doing Ys IX, MH Stories 2, Zelda, Ace Attorney, Neo TWEWY and want Samurai Warriors 5, but they always release an Ultimate Edition a year later with all the season pass content. May hold off for that.

Drowning in games. Not a bad problem to have… at least for us. Could be a problem for Ys success though. And after the lackluster performance of Trails, I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t a smidge concerned.
