So a follow up to my last question, some of my game cards are damaged to the point of no possible use, if you buy the same game digitally if you already have it as a physical copy would you still need the game card to play said game. If so, is there something you need to do to stop this?

Of course not, @TheMann ... Why on earth would you still need the cart to play a game you brought digitally?

He might mean as far as his progress. Will he then need to start over? I would think if he has a cloud save or even a save on the system, he would be ok

OK, @TheMann .... If it's saves, they're on the system, though

@TheMann Game save data (progress) is not stored on the game card. Game save data is always saved to the Switch internal memory or your micro SD card.

If you bought the game digitially, the game card is not needed. After you buy the game digitally, just boot up the game from the it's home screen icon and play! Your progress should be intact. The Switch won't ask for the game card

@TheMann No stress needed. Saves are done on the system and/or in the cloud, so they're the same for both physical and digital versions of a game, so your game progress is safe.
