This game releases in less than 48 hours!

@Bunkerneath
The game is still playable from cart. I'd rather have an 8gb download for a game that's 60+ GB on other systems, than not get the game at all (which would probably be the case if it was 32gb cart or bust- too expensive)

Psalms 22:16 (1,000 yrs before Christ)
They pierced My hands and feet
Isaiah 53:5 (700 yrs before Christ)
He was pierced for our transgressions
Zachariah 12:10 (500 yrs before Christ)
They will look on Me whom they pierced

So they have bought out a "physical" version, by making the cartridge an automatic downloader? That's not physical.

Looks like it's going to be a download of 22.8GB, so most people will need an SD card:

I was going to get this, but ill wait till I can get a new memory card next month. I have a 64gb one at the moment, and want to upgrade to a 128gb. Just to give me that little bit more room

did you order an UK cartridge or are you planning to buy digital?

Has anyone got the physical version yet? Is it playable without an extra download? And how much is the extra download?

The eShop page now shows it's 19,5 GB.

Haven't got it , but it was confirmed earlier that there is a 22gb download with the card. So it's basically a digital copy on cartridge by the sounds and the games downloaded to the system. Kind of like what happens with Xbox and PS4 now.

So, they took the cheapest cartridge (which I think is 1GB) and put only a downloader on it?

I'm still somewhat confused as to why I have to download 22GB with a physical copy, when the digital version is only 19,5GB.

Seems like I have to skip it in favour of other huge games I really want, like Ys VIII (14,1GB). That one comes on a 16GB cartridge without a mandatory download.
Edit: Oh, the file size changed to 14,2 GB.

It's costly enough to import an uncensored version in my region. I hoped they put Wolfenstein II on a 32GB cart, but 1GB is cheaping out a bit too much for my taste.

The game needs 44 and 46 GB on PS4 and XB1 respectively. So 22 GB on switch is ok.. I guess.

@SuperJoon : That is not a fair comparison. With the majority of PS4/Bone games, the data is stored on the disc itself. Optical discs do not have enough bandwidth/read speed for modern games to be playable, so the files need to be installed to a hard drive. In the majority of cases, you can play the game without an internet connection (however, you will need to install the game itself to your console, of which the data is stored entirely on the disc itself).

That is quite different to the partial cartridge releases on Switch, where the game itself needs to be downloaded for the cartridge to be of any use at all. Cartridges have much faster read speeds than optical discs and even many hard drives, so games will not need to be installed in order to be playable, but the fact that the entire game isn't included on the cartridge comes down to greedy publishers not wanting to use a larger capacity cartridge in order to render the game playable entirely from the cartridge alone.

@Silly_G
Yes - well, it speaks to the decline of physical media in general. Carts are WAY more expensive for a company to put their games on than discs, obviously, but even discs cost way more than just doing it by download anyway.

I REALLY hope Nintendo will step in to minimize this kind of thing on the Switch. I own dozens of Switch games, all physical, and so far I only have one that required a download as well (DOOM). The problem isn't wide-spread yet, but it will get there if Nintendo doesn't do something to alleviate this. Personally, I think they should offer to share the price with the third-party publisher to get them on a higher-capacity cart.

Anyway, I'm still going to get Wolfenstein on cart, but it's a bummer for sure.

I'm curious to know how big the download size will be for those going physical.

I doubt it will sway me one way or the other (despite how badly I want the game).

At this rate, I will only get this and L.A. Noire if I can get them for next to nothing. Otherwise, I would have happily paid full price for a full cartridge release.

For those going physical, half of the game (Chapters 1-6) are playable from the cartridge. A 9GB download will be required to play the latter 6 chapters.

This info is from Bethesda's website.

Well, I was going to order this, but the summer Steam sale started and I can get it 60% off there. I want to support Switch releases.....but $32 vs $80 for the same game is significant. Its unfortunate the Switch release coincides with this sale.

@subpopz wise move, because the game itself is not worth more than 30/35$, IMHO...

The original fire has died and gone, but the riot inside moves on.

Oh my gosh this game looks really good on the handheld. Like... much better than I was expecting. I'm really impressed.

And I don't care what anyone says, this game is incredible. One of my fave FPS ever made. I dont understand how anyone could knock this game. It's so good. I played a good portion on X1. I can't think of a single thing I didn't love.

@SKTTR @uximal @SuperJoon

It's not a 22gb download. It's not even a 10gb download. And its playable from cart. Probably 2/3 of the game I imagine like LA Noire. They did good for this one.

That's good to know, I might pick that up today. Was going to get Ys VIII, but may get this instead now. Thanks for that.

Bought the physical version yesterday. Great game so far!

I, like many others, had problems with the game not allowing you to navigate the menu, neither before starting the game, nor in-game. But there's a simple solution: just restart your Switch (a full restart, not just closing the game and putting the Switch in sleep mode). I did that and now the menu works, allowing me to change difficulty, saving manually and access other options.

I think this was an issue on Doom also.

Yeah, I have heard that too, but never experienced it with that game.
