I think Mario Maker 2 sold less than many people were expecting, which is not to say it sold poorly. Compared to Mario Kart, which has sold over 7 times more copies on the Switch compared to the Wii U, ‘Mario Maker for Switch’ only sold just over twice as much as its Wii U counterpart. Still good numbers, but not quite the explosion some were predicting.
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is a popular racing game for the Nintendo Switch. I doubt they’ll release Mario Kart 9 on the Nintendo Switch. It’ll most likely get released on the Nintendo Switch 2.
I don't think there's any chance of the next game being on Switch. I'd bet they'd want it to be a launch title for the next console, or near launch. So they can have the entire system's life to potentially add extra content to it.
I know Princess Peach Showtime wasn't exactly made in-house, but the graphics of that game make me excited for what the next Mario Kart could look like on more powerful hardware. Seeing as 8 was a Wii U game, and the Booster dlc had a lot of updated mobile versions of tracks, we never really got to see what a Mario Kart built from the ground-up for Switch could've looked like.
