The hybrid nature of Switch is a bit more than a 'gimmick', though, @TheFrenchiestFry .... I personally have a Lite, so I obviously play exclusively in handheld mode, myself! But for many, who do like to play on TV when they can, as well as being about to take it with them is a very useful feature
So, it'd be better to stick with that basic design idea for the next one, sorry

@Magician I'm always torn between being highly annoyed by people bringing that up, or laughing in their faces. They are SO out of touch with the reality, that they haven't got a clue about the how or why, something which you've now explained so clear and concise. And besides those sentiments I have, I also often wonder if these individuals are actually real Nintendo fans or supporters, because wanting them to go third party is basically another way of wishing them to practically go out of business, which would necessitate such a move, would they wish to survive.

And as you've already explained, that's not the case with Nintendo. Not even close.

On a totally unrelated side note: loving the quote in your signature, and at the same time highly amazed at your massive number of physical Switch titles. I didn't even know there were that many physical titles...

@TheFrenchiestFry It's good that you started your comment with making clear that it's your opinion. No offense meant, but it is a highly unrealistic one. There's multiple reasons why Nintendo has decided to take the path that they're now on. They simply can't compete on the same level anymore, so they simply HAVE to diversify and choose another solution to stay in the picture and be profitable.

So, with that in mind, the chances that they'll ever go back to a "normal" home console again, are quite slim, and will definitely not help them. If their titles all by themselves would be enough, then both the N64 and GameCube should also have been massive successes, but they weren't, and those two generations, combined with their successes in the handheld market, which luckily has always flourished, is what has set them upon this path that they're now on, ever since the Wii. It was only a matter of time before they'd ultimately end up making something that would combine those two products into the hybrid device that we have now.

And a highly successful hybrid device at that, so they'd be absolute morons to turn back the clock and go back to normal again.

Besides: it would also take a MASSIVE amount of money (and time) to rearrange their current company structure back to what it was again, since they've merged the home console and handheld departments, as well as rearranged/restructured all of their development teams, which I believe are 5 in total, counting only internal/first party departments. So, yeah... chances are not even slim, they're basically non-existent.

'The console wars are like boobs: Sony and Microsoft fight over which ones look the nicest and Nintendo's are the most fun to play with.'
