I remember this article and similar...
https://www.nintendolife.com/news/2016/01/macquarie_report_bel...

To me it seems weird that the "console partner device" would be the dock as we now have it. Why would they need to wait a year to release the dock? To me it makes more sense that the dock is a stopgap measure to make the system concept complete until something else is released...

Just imagine a unit more powerful than the Wii U as the second screen(the Switch), with a more powerful console as the main system?

Whether this is really happening or not, I think it's important to understand that there is no reason it couldn't happen. The Switch doesn't HAVE to be Nintendo's home console for the next 5 years. It can become primarily handheld and they can release something else for the home if they want to.

This doesn't mean that the Switch wouldn't have good games on its own... the 3DS has a ton of great games on it...it just means that something else could be coming still...

What would the benefit of that be though? You'd have to buy another new console for what? 300 more? That your switch can connect to. That would be pretty bad. I honestly think this is nintendos new console. No dedicated more powerful home console is coming.

Well, I don't think Nintendo has some 10 teraflop machine being unveiled at E3. However, I think that it is possible that there is more to the picture than we know yet, and even if there isn't, I think that things could evolve and people don't need to feel that the only path is only the switch as it is for the next 5 years.

I don't like that 2 screen stuff and I don't need anything more than just Switch, I'm perfectly fine if it's the main console for the next five years.
To be honest, my dream is that they will never create a new console different than Switch but just updated versions of it that will always be retrocompatible despite being more powerful and improved.
Switch is that good imho

I used to be a ripple user like you, then I took The Arrow in the knee

@LuckyLand When have they ever done that though? It's always been something different.

GameBoy through to GameBoy Advance?
DS through to 3DS through to New 3DS?

To be honest - although they broke compatibility in a couple of place (like the DS being compatible with GBA games but not GBC or GB games) Nintendo handhelds have pretty much always been backwards compatible for at least a generation.

When you look at the latter interviews with Iwata it definitely sounded like the iOS ecosystem was something they were looking to copy (at least in some ways). Iterative improvement of hardware with ongoing backwards compatibility seems to be an integral part of that to me.

Edit: the 3DS can even run GBA natively without emulation. That's how the ambassador games worked.
