FFXV runs on a proprietary engine. It would take a considerable amount of effort to get the engine running on Switch. More effort than its worth, so there's no reason to put the game on Switch.
but I just don't think that Square Enix is capable of making it run properly on the Switch.
Any game can run on Switch if it's downgraded enough and I have no doubt Squares developers are capable to make it run decently.
I doubt the time and cost of re-programming such a huge game is worth it for them though.
Any game can technically run on the majority of platforms, but the question is how much does it need to be downgraded to actually make it run. The fact is, FF 15 is simply beyond what could realistically run on the Switch. Developers can only downgrade games to a certain degree before it becomes pointless. Anyone who's hoping for AAA games such as this one to make it to the Switch is just wasting their time IMO. Some will come, but the vast majority of large AAA games will not be on the Switch, which is why, despite what Nintendo says, the Switch isn't for everyone, as is the case with any console. If someone wants big AAA games like Red Dead Redemption 2, Mass Effect Andromeda, or FF 15, they should get a PS4, or maybe build a gaming PC depending on what kind of games they like.

Can we please, PLEASE stop talking like we're been developing for the Switch personally for the last few years.
Buddy - I don't hate to say it, but you have ZERO CLUE if and how well FFXV can run on the Switch. Zero. And guess what? Neither do I. And neither does that dude who just keeps posting doom and gloom. Most of us don't.
A few of us here have a bit more knowledge into GPUs and such, but still, we're not developers. There are a few members of this forum who ARE game developers, so it would be those people's opinions that I would actually trust on a matter like this. Certainly not yours, nor mine for that matter.

Well, let me know in 5-10 years time when a tiny little tablet can run FF 15, a game that the PS4 and Xbox One struggle with, cause we're probably not there yet, especially when the guy from Square Enix said so himself. He hasn't done the testing, but if he has zero plans to port it over, chances are it either can't run on it, or can't run very well at best. And I'd say he has a better idea than anyone else.
No need to get so heated man, lol. Even if I'm dead wrong and FF 15 can somehow run beautifully on the Switch, it's no skin off my back, and you shouldn't care so much either.
For the record, neither the 3DS nor the Xbox One had a web browser at launch. Whether they add one later.... that remains to be seen. Honestly though, it's arguably fluff that isn't necessarily needed - only reason to have it is to check off an item on some arbitrary list. I sincerely doubt most people even used the web browser on the current platforms.
I think as a fairly small tablet it puts itself in a different category. I never really used the browser on my 3DS outside of the novelty of 3D images. The screen is worse than my phone and its slow. I rarely used the browser on my Wii U outside of the novelty of the curtains when sharing content. It takes too long to boot vs casting a video or similar and the GamePad screen is worse than a tablet.
The Switch? I can see myself being in a position where it's the best screen I have on hand. The screen is bigger than my phone and 720p isn't too bad. As long as its reasonably fast I can see myself using it for more than just games. Specifically Youtube and Twitch.
edit: Another thing to consider. The Switch is a portable device and so you'll be taking it with you places. How are you going to connect to the internet in these places? WiFi. What's the first thing you need to do when connecting to public/guest/customer WiFi? Open a browser and accept the terms of service. The Switch browser isn't just a convenience, for a portable device it's a requirement.
@skywake Except some devices use some sort of custom browser to complete the sign-in process. My Amazon Fire 7" does it. Even my phone does it. It might as well be the case with the Switch, although I doubt it. But then again, I swear I played a few rounds of For Glory matches (Smash 3DS) using the airport's Wi-Fi without even signing in. I just connected to the "router" and boom, I was already playing online. I had to sign in with my tablet, however
It's a shame that the Switch doesn't support a browser at launch. Yes, console browsers in general suck (they really do), but with the Switch's multi-touch screen it could be different. The Wii U's browser, even if it was somewhat ruined by one of its recent updates, is still the best console browser simply because of the convenience of the GamePad. For what is essentially a tablet that can be taken anywhere it's baffling that the Switch doesn't come with a web browser at launch. @jump Erm, isn't it a game? A terribly overpriced one, but still a game...

You can say I'm "heated" if you want, I'm the only one who truly knows
I also hate when people start using your argument of "no skin off my back, and you shouldn't care so much either," because you're trying to cast yourself as superior to the issue. Here's the thing: You DO care, too, or else you wouldn't be using time to post about it here.
Anyway, back to the fact: In 5-10 years, I'm not going to remember to come back here to tell you "I was right," but I have no doubt in my mind that Switch can run FF XV one day. The Wii U ran Watch Dogs, for crying out loud. It's also apparent you didn't read the interview. The dude clearly stated they hadn't even looked into whether or not the Switch can run it.
@jump
And we've known for many years that the PS3/360/Wii U were pretty similar in power. So I don't understand what the point of that comment was? It just reinforces what I've said.

It's what you randomly brought up in the conversation about how you think the Switch can play FFXV...
@Whitewatermoose Given XB1 only supports VR via connecting to a Windows 10 PC, the different versions could literally be solely because of VR support. Of course with PS4, all hardware models support PSVR so you wouldn't need 2 versions (no VR, VR). Either way, it's not that long until Microsoft reveals it as I'd assume a reveal before E3 so E3 can be focused on the games.
Well there is a rumor on Reddit and Neogaf, that Desinty 2 is only coming to PS4, Xbox One, Scorpio (looking likely that it IS Xbox 4 after all), and PC. No Switch version.
I'm not really surprised, if it was Overwatch it'd be a bummer but meh.
Whatever happened to Destiny's gonna go on for years and years like WOW rather than breaking it up into sequels?

First of all, I cared enough to post about it, but I wasn't expecting a conflict to start from my simple opinion that I don't think it could run well enough on the Switch to warrant a port. Second of all, I did read it, and he said he didn't think it would run, and someone from the very company who made the game probably has a better idea if it'll run on the Switch than anyone else. Even if it did, it would be a pretty gimped version of the game. Besides, by the time they put in the manpower to port it over, FF 15 would be in the bargain bin for 20 dollars on PS4 and Xbone, and it would be like the Wii U with that long list of 3rd party games that everyone had already played all over again.
