a). Scalebound as an IP, for what little relevance it has now, is apparently owned by Microsoft. They'd have to sell their rights to it on and considering it sounds like the game is a mess I can't think of any takers. It'd be burning money. In a volcano.
b) Kamiya is reportedly taking a break from game development. Don't expect him in this week's big presentation basically.
@MarcelRguez As far as Bayonetta 2 was concerned it was apparently funded by Sega for the most part who backed out at the 11th hour over fears of its sales. Nintendo just bridged the gap between the (virtually) finished game and release by publishing it and Sega were just happy to wash their hands of it and didn't mind the whole 'console exclusive' thing because post Dreamcast Sega.
Here it is really sounding like Scalebound was a mess. Microsoft wanted it to be more of an online co-op game rather than what Kamiya originally intended which was single player, and due to rushed changes the game is just... a mess. Really wish I was better with vocabulary lol.
But yeah a Scalebound revival seems incredibly unlikely and as I say I doubt Kamiya wants the stress of announcing something like Bayonetta 3 just a few days after the Scalebound cancellation has gone public.
But Platinum are a dev studio and they really need work, so the future is anyone's guess. Kamiya described them as "guns for hire" when Scalebound was apparently healthy, can't imagine how he'd describe his company now. They need a big hit over the next couple of years more than ever.
@Moshugan If this list holds true either Capcom finally has the balls to give the west MH Frontier or we're getting an hd version of MH XX which would probably be dubbed something like "MH Generations (enter subtitle here)." I would definitely not bank on an original title what with MH XX slated for release in March in Japan iirc.
@TomJ I agree. The rumors have been fun, downright hilarious at times.
Never studied Scalebound close but do think Platinum was one of the better devs for Wii U. Whatever happens I hope there is something is in the wings for Switch.
About the stock, the 2 million is for the fiscal year, which is like 2 weeks worth. That's in March, a slower sales period for hardware. Coming off the Wii U. I don't think this is another amiibo/NES Classic situation.
I can't imagine there won't be stock issues come March. I just can't picture Switches on the shelf when stores close that day. Scalpers, tears, angry...it's all just apart of Nintendo hardware launch as sure as the day is long
I'd like to think that Nintendo would replenish the stock reasonably fast.
This isn't a Christmas release, after all. Sure, people would like to get it day one, but there may not be the same urgency in March as there is in December. Waiting til April for your Switch isn't as bad as waiting til January for your Wii. Scalpers will probably have little benefit from the March release as it would make more sense to wait a couple more weeks for a restock than to pay extortionate prices, I would hope.
That said, if you want to guarantee having the Switch in March? Preordering is the way to go. Preorder early, and I would go for an online preorder over local.
So we're getting close to the reveal so I'll drop some of this under spoiler tags. Not sure how true it is but it's definitely what it says on the tin based on the chatter I've seen. Gamestop has a bunch of games in their system for the Switch as placeholders. Now the spoiler tags
The release date for all these games is March 19:
Zelda: BotW, Splatoon, Mario Kart, NBA, Skyrim, Mario, Sonic, Monster Hunter, Dragon Quest XI, Lego City Undercover, Just Dance 2017 and 5 other games not currently named.
Dare I say, not a lot of surprises on that list. Yet. But still a solid launch.
@skywake I'd likely get Switch at launch with that kind of lineup. The only things that would stop me in that case are issues with the hardware itself or Nintendo being Nintendo meaning even if you preorder a Switch there's no guarantee you'll be able to get one at launch.
@skywake That would be an excellent lineup. Three of the new titles are must-buys for me, one has my interest, and I'd consider the ports depending on new features.
Following that Nintendo still have the rest of the year to surprise us.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE
Ah, yes. The wonderful power of the internet, which people constantly prove we still aren't ready for lol
I really hope Amazon and other retailers crack down on bogus reviews and 1-star ratings that are being given for absolutely no reason, kind of like Mario Run and many other releases we've seen.
@skywake Pretty solid indeed. To have 3D Mario,Zelda and Sonic (Mania?) to play day one on my brand new console is as good as it gets for a gamer like me.
If what GameStop has listed is indeed the launch line up for the Nintendo Switch then firstly that looks pretty impressive, though I won't be buying any of the ports (or at least any time too soon), and I would need to choose between Mario and Zelda as I would be buying Skyrim day one though I feel the first party games will destroy third party in terms of sales which is worrying.
I am also a bit concerned that if these are all releasing day one then how much else does Nintendo have in the works for the rest of year, baring in mind they need an E3 showing.

@FragRed For the rest of the year we'll probably get the games that were originally planned to come to Wii U.Add on Pikmin,Pokemon and the new Retro game, some more Wii U ports and some 3rd party exclusives,I'm sure they'll be able to fill it out nicely.
I find it pretty exciting that they could potentially be launching with a handful of heavy hitters. If the point of the merger was to prevent droughts then the fact they're not spacing these out could mean that they're either:
A.) Really confident in the 3rd party support over the next few months
B.) Have amassed an artillery of 1st and 2nd party titles in the time they spent putting the Wii U out to pasture
or
C.) Haven't learned anything at all. Nintendoomed.

You get home with your brand new Switch, unbox it wiht a big grin on your face and set it all up,connect it to the internet, have a wee browse of the interface and check the E-shop,see how the internet browser looks then it's time to play a game. You've bought Mario and Zelda but which one do you play first? That's a real tough choice and one I'm not sure I know the answer to yet.I will probably side with Mario just now, play a few levels and then settle down for a long session on Zelda.
