@smm1 I think it's unlikely. The only way they can track copies of Wii U games is through digital purchases, meaning that if they did decide to treat these customers with a discount those that opted for physical purchases would be left out.
If Smash and Mario Kart rereleases include DLC, I could maybe see them offering a slight discount to those that purchased all the Wii U DLC. That way, they could avoid the problem of physical copies and reward customers which put and most money into these games.
Ultimately, however, they do have My Nintendo as a rewards system, so I don't really see a reason for them to offer any other discounts.
@smm1 Extremely, extremely, EXTREMELY unlikely. For demonstration; I bought Mario Kart 8 right when it came out and have had a right old lark with it in the two & 1/2 years since, and feel I more than got my money's worth (thanks for free The Wonderful 101 too!). Why should I benefit for a discount for the enhanced port on an entirely different system nearly 3 years later? Because it was in the fine print when I got it? Because it is a legal right of mine like totes? Because it's an industry standard and Nintendo would be the only company not thinking of their fans and giving them a discount for these remasters?
Oh you say that the situation is different here than for every other company that have released dozens of remasters because Paper Mario Colour Splash was bad and amiibo Festival was allowed to happen? Then I've changed my story I hated Mario Kart 8 and I'm a very, very unsatisfied Wii U owner now can I have my 30% off please Nintendo? What's that Frank ol' buddy ol' pal, You want cheap games too? Here borrow my copy of Splatoon and complain about how it's 'only' 2 years old when you buy the Switch version and complain about another Wii U game that no one cares about anymore. I dunno which one just pick one. Ugh fine I have to do everything... say that you got shafted because Super Mario 3D World was a 2.5 D game, they'll drown you in discounts before you know it.
Yeah unfortunately real life isn't going to be like that.
Having a bit of fun reading the fallout from Vooks' fake. As someone who follows Vooks it's interesting to see how many people don't dig into stuff. All you need to do is click on his twitter bio and you'll see that he is a web developer who has been running the biggest Australian Nintendo fan since for the last 16 years. So of course it was believable. It's also interesting to look back on people who posted stuff about how they claimed to have seen stuff on the EBGames site.
And I'm just here thinking about all the stuff he's done in the last few months. That a few months ago he did that "Nintendo Duo" fake. Which was far more obviously fake than the more recent one.
Or that the internet just keeps taking graphics he makes for his site. Like the NX logo that went everywhere including that trailer for Sonic. It was a graphic he made for his site. It happens all the time. I should've known! But he is good, you have to give him that.
That would be fine if they only offered a discount to those who purchased the digital copies, since the owners of physical copies could sell them on eBay, etc. But of course this entire possibility is pretty unlikely.
Yeah you're almost certainly right. Once I saw your post I remembered that Sony didn't offer any sort of discount for those who purchased The Last of Us on PS3 and then purchased the remastered version on PS4. I was saying for ports that are exactly the same (like say Mario Kart 8 vs Mario Kart 8 for Switch) they possibly could offer a small discount to those who purchased the Wii U digital copy (like that of Mario Kart 8) but as you said just because you buy the Wii U version doesn't mean you should get a discount on a version with more content on another system.
Hopefully Overwatch makes it to Switch, like the Russian rumor states.
@Whitewater moose I can tell you right now that that Russian rumor is just that a rumor. It stated that Activision said they would like to bring Overwatch to the Switch. Activision has no say on Overwatch, Overwatch is Blizzard. That would be like Ubisoft saying we would like to bring Madden to the Switch.
In other Switch news no Mass Effect Andromeda for the Switch. Looks like EA is up to their old tricks.
@Tsurii@Therad They may be one company but Activision handles Activision business i.e. CoD, Skylanders etc and Blizzard handles Blizzard's stuff - Warcraft, Diablo, Overwatch etc. They don't interfere with the other. Basically they are one company on paper but they operate as seperate companies.
Activision has doesn't have any say on Overwatch and Blizzard has no say on Call of Duty.
However for Destiny Blizzard did offer advice on the MMO aspects of it since Blizzard has a knowledge of MMOS due to WoW and Activision did offer advice on Overwatch since they have knowledge on FPS due to CoD but that was just advice nothing more.

I'm hoping for a switch that has a 4g sim card slot. You know, for online stuff on the go. One rumour said it wasn't coming, another said it was... I don't know, has anyone reliable said anything about that?
Retro is working on 3 games,Metroid,Donkey Kong and a new IP.
Skyward Sword Remaster
Mario Sports game
2 games from Platinum - Bayonetta 3 and an unknown title
Resident Evil 7 and Monster Hunter
Fnal Fantasy XV and VII
Beyon Good & Evil 2 and Splinter Cell
Edit : It's a new Reddit post about an old video, just noticed that.Never mind!
The new Mass Effect isn't coming out on the Nintendo Switch, which is a shame. The more games, the better!
So why do I become easily irritated when I read the comments within the article on the front page?
"I don't care about THOSE games", "I won't support EA ever again" (even though it is being developed by BioWare) and the usual "I only buy Nintendo games, etc. etc.".
Can you see why third party developers are barely able to muster up any enthusiasm to make games for Nintendo and their 'fans'?
@smm1 The closest to what you're hoping for is what happened for CoD Ghosts for upgrading from 360/PS3 to XB1/PS4 if on the same console family (e.g. 360 to XB1). There was a limited time upgrade for £10.
But even that doesn't really apply as the only difference between the last gen and current gen versions were graphics. The Laura Kate Dale leaks and even the Switch trailer itself suggests most of the Switch ports are enhanced ports which the enhancements are likely to be an excuse to sell it to you for full price again.
@OorWullie Retro working on three projects? Don't know about that. I was under the impression that they were only able to handle two games at most at any given time. We know they're probably not working on Metroid Prime either, so that means they're working on a non-Prime Metroid game, and doing another DK and working on a new IP... Seems a bit far-fetched if you ask me.
