@skywake considering the historic of Nintendo hardware with Legend of Zelda franchise, is very likely that Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom is gonna be a launch game for Switch sucessor or maybe the next 2D/3D Mario game, @Link3710 Splatoon 3 having suport until septembre 2024 , will not impact Switch sucessor launch and i doubt Switch sucessor is gonna be a powerful console(Nintendo don't work like that).

@Giancarlothomaz That really depends on what you call not powerful? In todays market, something between the PS4 & PS4 Pro I’d say isn’t powerful but is powerful enough to hopefully keep enough third party support for a few years.

@skywake What you said. You, me... same page.

You guys had me at blood and semen.

What better way to celebrate than firing something out of the pipe?

Nothing is true. Everything is permitted.

@Giancarlothomaz Yikes I didn’t realise it was gonna be that underpowered, assuming the leaked data is accurate with the chipset Nintendo ends up using.

@Giancarlothomaz Modern handheld hardware should be able to achieve the results of 10 year old hardware, actually older than that when you think the base PS4 was using old chipsets when it launched. So I’m hoping whatever Nintendo and Nvidea do release uses something customised to achieve that power.

@Giancarlothomaz @FragRed We're talking about the supposed T234 chip that's going to be in the next Switch, yes?

I'm not a tech person, but doing a little bit of research suggests performance will be much closer to something like the Xbox Series S. It'll also apparently be DLSS capable, which will even out the gap between it and the big boys even more.

Obviously it still won't be the ideal TV system, but even downclocked, it should be an absolute monster in handheld mode. Easily more capable than something like the Steam Deck.

Assuming the leaks are true, of course.

Currently Playing: Metroid Prime 4: Beyond (NS2); Corpse Factory (PC)

FragRed

@Ralizah I don’t know the name of the chipset, I know that one apparently exists and I’m going on what I have read from others on these forums like yourself and @skywake who have done research. But if it’s that powerful then that’s surprisingly impressive for something Nintendo would use. That’s a massive jump in power.

And finally...

The only review I trust for Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion

It's a technical performance review only, but it's a game that's been around so we already know how good it is.

Bottom Line? Looks fantastic on Switch, runs incredibly well, transition load times are just 2-3 seconds, and shows Switch is still capable of giving us high quality experiences if the devs are competent.

Throw your Xbox 360+++ out the window. That's a horrible comparison.

Secondly, it's a Tegra 239, not 234. That alone shows you don't have a clue what you're talking about. You don't even know the name of the chip, how could anyone trust your judgement about what it's capable of?

https://www.msn.com/en-us/lifestyle/shopping/nintendo-switch-...

The T239 is around base PS4. That's incredibly powerful for a hybrid device. INCREDIBLY powerful. Look at games on PS4. They look nearly identical to PS5 games. That is going to be what we have on a portable system in the near future.

It's incredibly exciting.

If that doesn't excite you, then you know nothing of technology, have no appreciation for the advancements in mobile tech, don't value the massive leap it will provide for both visuals and performance, and frankly, are just ragging on it because it's not "as powerful" as other current TV only systems. Which is absolutely ludicrous to be "disappointed" a portable system "only" produces games that look 95% as good as dedicated tethered power consoles.

@Kermit1Pineapple
People have a fundamental misunderstanding about why KH was not natively ported.

It sounds crazy if you're under the impression power was the reason. But it clearly wasn't. The collection featured well over half a dozen full games that would each need to be individually ported, when the entire bundle could only sell for $100 at most. The ROI simply wasn't there. And ppl will say, "ya but there's a lot of demand, it would still make a profit". Which, they'd be right. But business isn't just about making profit, its about maximizing profit. The time and resources needed to undertake such a monumental task could see 5X the ROI if other tasks were delegated instead (such as, for example, creating a Crisis Core remaster and releasing across all platforms, and still have money and resources left over to spare).

@JaxonH Thank God you said something because I was about to ask what the heck a Xbox 360 +++ is compared to a PS4 bass model.

@FragRed
After the first + sign the comparison loses all relevance.

It also completely ignores the fact that in handheld/tabletop mode, games only need to render at 720p. So even if it's downclocked to base Xbox One level, the result is going to be games that look just as if not more impressive than a PS4 on a TV.

And when docked, DLSS can upscale the image to go toe to toe with PS4 Pro, maybe even beyond.

It's never going to be as capable as current gen systems- that much is obvious. It's a portable hybrid system. If portable hybrid systems could be made without any compromises everyone would be doing it.

But if the games look as good as PS4 games in both handheld and docked, and upscale to 4k with DLSS, I can't imagine why anyone would want to play games anywhere else. Unless they simply never use handheld or tabletop mode, which the data suggests is only a small minority of Switch gamers.

@JaxonH you know Nintendo, they will never for powerful chipset such as Tegra 239, they will opt for a less demading/less powerful chipset, you know very well Nintendo opt for inovation not pure raw power like Microsoft/Sony do with they consoles, i higly doubt Nintendo is gonna follow the Game Cube path(most powerful console with the Switch sucessor, Switch sucessor again is gonna be a underpowed console as always, with the devina venia, you are wrong to believe Switch sucessor is gonna be a powerful console, until Nintendo reveal the Switch sucessor next year or in 2024, this debacle on Switch 2 graphical power is temporaly closed, and we shall see who is righ(you or you? problaby me, i am always right).

@JaxonH I always assumed base PS4 would be what Nintendo aimed for with the new hardware. It was the most logical step. And as you said, that should be easily capable of allowing a decent amount of continued third party support from both the indies and larger publishers. Maybe we see more last generation games ported too.
