@JaxonH I don't think you should take FF Tactics for granted. Sure the Nvidia list has been extremely accurate but that doesn't discount the possibility of Playstation console exclusivity.
@Grumblevolcano Sony doesn't count care about ancient PS1 games. And, anyway, Square-Enix seems to know by now that these smaller releases perform best on Switch.
PS exclusivity seems profoundly unlikely.
Hell, FM3 was a PS1 exclusive that was never ported elsewhere, and that game's remake has only been announced for Switch so far.
Fully expecting Sony to leap on the next mainline DQ game, though. Especially since S-E has signaled it'll be darker and edgier to appeal to Westerners.
@Giancarlothomaz
Notice how the Switch and the next system are in a big encompassing circle? It's to promote confidence in this sort of thing. (So I'm inclined to expect bc and will be disappointed in the unlikely event it doesn't.)
To be fair these slides were used in relation to the NNID. Which was then pretty much entirely thrown out with the introduction of the Nintendo Account. So yeah, I'll remain pessimistic
edit: also people are caught up on the BC part of what I'm saying. That's only part of it. My bigger concern is whether or not purchases from this "generation" will carry to the next "generation" platform. Which, outside of the Wii -> Wii U VC upgrade program to a degree, is something Nintendo hasn't actually done yet
@Ralizah I think it'll depend in what form it's brought over. There have been plenty of ports/remasters of PS1 games that have gone straight multiplatform however Castlevania Requiem stayed PS exclusive because of the way it uses the PSP Dracula X Chronicles.
@skywake Well you feel how you must, but “maintaining consumer trust across generations” sounds like we will take our games with us to me. Surely their 20 year partnership with NVida has this in the roadmap! Also, blimey, we are about 7 years into that! More depending on when it actually began! Didn't they patent expansion slots in the carts fairly recently too,. Not sure what that was for.
@Grumblevolcano@Ralizah The remasters for Chrono Cross, Legend of Mana, and Saga Frontier weren't opted for Playstation exclusivity. I don't think we have to worry about Final Fantasy Tactics.

It will all depend on how good Nvidia's software solution for backwards compatibility will be. All the previous generations of Nintendo backwards compatibility (for their handhelds and their home consoles) was obtained by attaching the old hardware to the new hardware. And if no more Tegra X1 chips are being made, Nintendo and Nvidia can't take that path.
@Magician That article was 2021 and was used to give the annual 'Switch Pro soon' rumour some weight lol. It's not my place to know how they do it, but I'm sure they will. Like I said, if they don't I will be genuinely surprised.
I never drive faster than I can see. Besides, it's all in the reflexes.
I imagine some code-savvy Nintendo fan could expound on how seamless or how difficult it would be for developers to transition from the pascal-based Tegra X1to the ampere-based Tegra T239?
I believe every Switch cartridge would require a patch in order to work on the new hardware. Assuming Nintendo keeps the current cartridge format. Assuming third party partners would even want to make the effort on those patches. And assuming Nintendo decided to not go all-digital.
I've got some Anti-Matter bait. Valthirian Arc 2 has been delayed into 2023. Aside from A-M himself, if you've ever wanted to be headmaster of Hogwarts or something like that give the first game a try. It doesn't have the same polish as the Two Point series, but it's a good sim-management game.

@Magician@Grumblevolcano I believe I've read that Sony funded the development of that particular Castlevania collection, so it being exclusive makes sense. They generally don't care all that much about snagging exclusivity rights for ancient Square-Enix games, though.
Thankfully, it doesn't matter to me either way. FFT bored me to tears on PS1, so I'm not hugely inclined to repurchase it at a premium, even on my beloved Nintendo Switch.
