Eurogamer have posted this article regarding the US sales figures for Nintendo's home and portable lines of hardware sales. It's interesting to see it broken down but also makes me wonder of how the NX will perform given the circumstances in today's crowded market in the west.
To expand Marcel's above link in case people gloss by it.
NINTENDO REALLY DOESN'T WANT ANYONE EVEN MENTIONING NX
We know that Nintendo has remained extremely tight-lipped about the NX, but this next bit of info is a bit too far. Take a look at this snippet from a GameSkinny interview with a Nintendo of Canada rep.
Absolutely nothing about the NX is said there, as far as actual platform details go. Completely innocuous, don't you think? Apparently Nintendo of Canada didn't think so, as this is how the interview reads now.
Why did that blurb that offered absolutely no info have to be removed? Nintendo always plays cards close to their chest, but this time around there was literally nothing to be gleaned from that interview snippet! Man, I wonder how hard Nintendo came down on Ubisoft for what they've been saying in interviews!
Most likely it was the "Nintendo direct" part that upset them. I'm guessing they would want even the manner of the reveal to be kept a secret as well as the thing itself.
But geez. With the reveal having to be at least somewhat close by, it's strange that they're being so anal about even mentioning it.
EDIT: @TomJ I shall take you up on that. What do I get if it's not
@TomJ Well I'll get a sad face for still not knowing what an NX is, worst of all .
So, by October 16th, then. If they reveal it by then, though I doubt it at this point in time. Would be a great birthday surprise if they showed it on the week of the 16th, though.
@MarcelRguez Yeah that's the same worry I have. If they're still being this strict on even mentioning the thing officially through any of their employees, it doesn't bode well for a japan-based official mention anytime soon.
Is it a hybrid? (1 point): Yes. The name? (5 points): Game Boy Cross (GBX) Number of devices (e.g. differences in colour, harddrive capacity etc.) at available at launch (2 points for correct number, 1 bonus point per accurate explanation): 3 (black, silver and white option, same storage). Reveal date (1 point for correct month, 3 points correct week, 5 points correct day): 6th of October. Launch date (1 point for correct month, 3 points correct week, 5 points correct day): 4th of March 2017. Launch price (2 points, additional bonus point(s) for correct multiple price points): 250 euros/dollars (do the math for sterling) Launch titles (up to 10 guesses, 2 points per correct guess, -1 point per incorrect): Zelda Breath of the Wild, Super Mario Maker, Wave Race and a Wii Sports series successor.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE I completely agree. I get a new idea for the name almost every day. If you asked me tomorrow or in a week, you would have an entirely different answer from me. I'm just doing it for fun, not presuming a thing. I think we even have a thread just to suggest names.
In the end, we may try to look to the past and market conventions, but Nintendo being Nintendo will make up something as alien as the Wii brand was back in the 00's.
@AlternateButtons Why would you need memory on the home dock? if all memory is in the Handheld, then when you take the handheld with you, you wouldn't need a could to sync up save data. I wouldn't mind them having a cloud for making back ups of save data, but it isn't needed for transferring save data.
People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

Nintendo Go

October 7th.

An opinion is only respectable if it can be defended. Respect people, not opinions
Is it a hybrid? (1 point):
Yes, more specifically a handheld that is readily compatible for TV/home play (including multiplayer).
The name? (5 points):
I'm tempted to say NX. (Or at least keep "X" or "cross" somewhere in it.)
Number of devices (e.g. differences in colour, harddrive capacity etc.) at available at launch (2 points for correct number, 1 bonus point per accurate explanation):
One device, a handheld which can readily hook up to a TV via HDMI. I'd say 32GB internal memory as well, expandable by SD. Peripherals may be necessary for more TV-focused features such as multiplayer, or compatibility with USB devices. Two colours (black and white).
Reveal date (1 point for correct month, 3 points correct week, 5 points correct day):
October 13th.
Launch date (1 point for correct month, 3 points correct week, 5 points correct day):
March 24th (In USA or Japan. My guess is Europe won't be till a week later, for whatever reason.)
Launch titles (up to 10 guesses, 2 points per correct guess, -1 point per incorrect):
Zelda: BotW
2D Mario
Free-to-play Pokemon game
Exclusive (probably a timed exclusive) from Ubisoft
Just Dance 2017
@AlternateButtons The dock is not going to have extra power, that would require too much work on developers. The dock having storage kinda destroys the benefit of a portable system. With a portable system you are going to want your downloaded games on the system at all times for the most part. You won't want to have to do a weird transfer process from the dock each time you want to take a game on the go, so then it doesn't make sense for the dock to have Data Storage.

I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...
Nintendo's Second Quarter Earnings Release is on 26th October and an investors meeting will follow in tow. I'd imagine that if the NX hasn't been revealed by that date then skin and hair will fly at that meeting. They can be absolutely hilarious with really stupid questions from the shareholders.
