@AlternateButtons Why would you need memory on the home dock? if all memory is in the Handheld, then when you take the handheld with you, you wouldn't need a could to sync up save data. I wouldn't mind them having a cloud for making back ups of save data, but it isn't needed for transferring save data.

Seems my thoughts aren't too different from most, but...

@AlternateButtons The dock is not going to have extra power, that would require too much work on developers. The dock having storage kinda destroys the benefit of a portable system. With a portable system you are going to want your downloaded games on the system at all times for the most part. You won't want to have to do a weird transfer process from the dock each time you want to take a game on the go, so then it doesn't make sense for the dock to have Data Storage.

Nintendo's Second Quarter Earnings Release is on 26th October and an investors meeting will follow in tow. I'd imagine that if the NX hasn't been revealed by that date then skin and hair will fly at that meeting. They can be absolutely hilarious with really stupid questions from the shareholders.

Nintendo Go is one of the more reasonable names. Not sure why everyone's expecting the words ''next'' or ''cross''. NX is just a code name, and code names never have anything to do with the system's final name. My best guess? It's something that nobody would've guessed.

I think code names can sometimes have some relevance to the machine. But I doubt that at the time of selecting those names that Nintendo had in mind to keep it but after a while it stuck and they couldn't think of anything better.

Anyway I expect the nx will be the same issue here. Also if Nintendo want it to have some mobile functionality then I expect they'll probably follow suit with that industry and pick a letter and a number. Hence Nintendo X with later gens if they stick with the concept being x2, x3 etc

I think the plan is to stick with the concept if it's reasonably successful. I think Nintendo had planned that with the Wii and saw it as the new way of gaming and intended to iterate that for future consoles (e g. Wii U) but unfortunately it wasn't as successful or desired as they thought.

The hybrid concept is the future of Nintendo unless it tanks. Personally I'm excited by that and I think it will do well.

It's not that much different to the Wii U having internal storage and USB expansion. There's no real technical reason why they can't do it. And when you're using the device as a home console? You can have all of your downloaded games rather than just the ones that will fit on an SD Card.

Obviously the ideal would be to have a 500GB+ HDD included in the portable itself. But I don't see that being really feasible. Though the fact that it isn't feasible for the portable should not rule out the option for having it on the dock.

Agree that a possibility would be to just have extra storage on the dock. I could see them going for this but as others have pointed out- it might be offputting to some to have to continually move files around so they can play their games on the go.

The simpler solution is to just have an SD slot on the actual device. The consumer would have to eat the cost yes, but hopefully Nintendo can retail the thing at an affordable price point to mitigate that.

We may be close to the reveal of a new Beyond Good and Evil game.

Michel Ancel, creator of Beyond Good and Evil, has shared a very interesting teaser on his Instagram account earlier today.

This is just a concept art image, with the caption, “somewhere in system 4…” What’s more intriguing is the next line, which reads, “Thanks to Ubisoft for making this possible!” Ancel doesn’t usually share Beyond Good and Evil-related posts, so this is very interesting.

If we’re speculating, the shot could be showing a younger Uncle Pey’j, who was sidekick to protagonist Jade in the original game. This could mean the new game is actually a prequel – assuming there is in fact a new game.

That’s not all, the Ubisoft France Twitter account started directing fans to the same image. The company’s tweets translates to, “Michel Ancel has an Instagram account and you are advised to follow closely.” Ubisoft doesn’t usually promote other people’s work, unless it’s involved somehow.

The old rumour that Nintendo is funding Beyond Good and Evil 2 for release on the NX suddenly makes a lot more sense, especially when you consider how close we are to an official NX reveal.

As far as we know, Ubisoft recently said that Beyond Good and Evil 2 is still in the works. Of course, this has more or less been the official message for a long while, but to see these two posts today, makes it sound like we’re getting close to a reveal or announcement of some kind.

It’s about to (maybe) finally happen.

DS? That was called Project Nitro. N64 was code named Project Reality.

I am starting to think that once Nintendo announces the NX, whether it will be in a few days, a few weeks or a few months time, they are in the midst of the most crowded console market in a long time.

The PlayStation family, by the end of this year, will be the PS3 (it's still chugging along), PS Vita (still popular in Japan), PlayStation 4 slim, PlayStation 4 Pro and the PS VR.

Microsoft has recently released the Xbox One S, which is not only a huge improvement on the original in every conceivable way, it is also the cheapest UHD Blu-ray player on the market, whether its inclusion is of worth to you or not. There is also a small matter of the Scorpio, which shall be available later next year.

Nintendo are slowly ceasing production of the Wii U and the 3DS has still got another year or two left of life in it. I would imagine that the NX will be a singular platform for Nintendo to focus on in 2018 and beyond.

I am sure the NX will be a huge success in Japan, given their love for handheld devices however, I just cannot see how Nintendo can successfully penetrate into a modern day market that includes five different platforms that Sony has to offer as well as the Xbox One S that does really well in the US of A.

As a Nintendo fan, I really do want them to sweep away the competition, but away from that dreamlike scenario, I just cannot see the NX being anything more than 'a nice extra' for most folks.

I wasn't aware of the BG&E news today when I made my prediction on the previous page. But if Nintendo doesn't bring excitement like this to NX then it's bound to struggle. I was reading everyone else's launch game predictions, and it all seemed so predictable and boring, at least on the surface. Bayonetta 2 needed to be the start of something, not an exception to the rule.

@Peek-a-boo I've said it before and I'll say it again. Nintendo needs to be prepared to take a loss with NX in order to regain its status as a market leader. It needs to invest in quality exclusives, like Bayonetta 2 and Beyond Good & Evil 2, but to a greater extent. If the NX can get minimum 5, but preferably at least 10-15, real quality 3rd party exclusives that appeal to the 'core' gamer market, then its reputation can be restored.

Outright sales figures, hardware and software, need to play second-fiddle in the short-term, in favour of reputation for quality gamer's games. It seems for many that sales determine reputation, but it shouldn't be like that and Nintendo needs to demonstrate that now.

I think you're building it up a bit too much. There really aren't that many platforms out currently. All of the PS4/XBOne variations are still essentially the same platform. That's before you consider the fact that they're largely the same thing anyways. Never before have two consoles been as similar in terms of specs and library.

Then there's the previous generation platforms which you say are "chugging along" but really, they're basically dead at this point. Looking at a local retailer I can see a grand total of 5 PS3 games for this year available for either purchase or pre-order. They're all sports games. I mean the Vita is kinda in a similar boat (and in the US it's totally dead) but at least it has a bunch of cool little JRPGs coming out for it.

Then there's the Wii U and 3DS. As much as both platforms are more alive than the PS3/360/Vita? The 3DS in particular. As soon as Nintendo pulls the trigger they're gone. Whatever the NX replaces it'll kill off the equivalent predecessor. So it'll probably kill off both based on the rumours. Though for now the 3DS is still coasting along.

So where does it leave the NX at launch? I'd argue that the NX is launching into the least crowded console market in a long while. For a platform launch at least. When the Wii launched it was up against the PS2, PS3, 360, DS and PSP. Arguably it was also up against the GC but just barely. The NX? It'll be launch up against the PS4 and XBOne. Possibly also the 3DS to some extent. But that's it. It's a very, very open console market.

@gcunit I doubt that the impact from BG&E will be noticeable; however, anything is better than nothing. Would love a collaboration between Nintendo and From Software.. Not sure what that would result in, but I want it.
