@dtjive
You're assuming a few things there. For all we know they intended to launch Zelda:BotW on the Wii U first. The delay of BotW does not necessarily mean that the NX was also delayed. Also just because they have said they're not going to launch until they have the right amount of software doesn't mean they delayed it BECAUSE they didn't have enough software. For all we know the Zelda:BotW delay was because the NX was running ahead of schedule. Why launch on Wii U only if there's going to be a new console out soon?

@Octane
Which is why it makes sense for them to shuffle into the portable space. With a portable system they can get away with not having all of the multiplatform releases. People are far more willing to accept different content on a portable than they are another home console.

@skywake That's fair, but that also means that my original comment about them giving up still stands. I get that it makes sense from a business perspective; Not competing means you can make more money and they pretty much already have a monopoly on the handheld market. I still think it's unfortunate, because I always preferred their home consoles over their handhelds.

@rallydefault Does it work in cycles? Cause I'd say the numbers tell a different story. PS1 era, Sony dominated. PS2 era, Sony dominated. PS3, Sony shot themselves in the foot repeatedly yet still ended up beating the 360 in the end and would've gotten first if not for the Wii's existence. PS4? Sony's dominating. Sony's dominated this industry since they've entered it, and the one time they didn't was because they screwed up.

Also, exclusives really don't matter as much as people think in the AAA mainstream space. The mutliplats sell the most in that space. Hence why the delays, while annoying, won't matter much for them.

It does. You're ignoring the whole first half of video gaming history lol You can't just start with the PS1 and say "Sony dominated" and be done with it, because then you're ignoring the decade plus of Nintendo and Sega (and even Atari, some would argue). And then you kind of proved my point: Yea, Sony did great with PS1 and PS2, but then Microsoft was on top, bar-none, with the 360 for 99% of the previous generation (though that would be ignoring the Wii, which moved more units).

Also, Sony didn't "dominate" the PS1 era. It was A LOT closer than you are making things out to seem.

@Octane me too honestly. however facts are facts and as of now the home console market just isn't commercially viable for them at the moment.

Like...what would they do to sell said new home console at this point. What "gimmick" could it possibly have and can we realistically expect to to be able to keep up with PS and Xbox?

FragRed

@Grumblevolcano Trescothick obviously don't know anything about the NX or at the very least, those in charge of the site don't know. It's just a page readying up for pre-orders to officially begin. Though that price seems a bit steep lol.

Grumblevolcano

@FragRed Yeah, well the page says NX Wii U so if true that would suggest the NX is a handheld that can also connect to the Wii U in the same way the Gamepad does.

Something like:
£150 - NX by itself
£350 - NX + Wii U base (the standard 32GB console without the Gamepad)

It sure would answer questions regarding rumours/leaks like 32GB storage, retailers not having much time left to order Wii U consoles, etc.

That said despite it being an idea I'd really like as a Wii U owner, I really don't believe it.

They shouldn't be so annoyed with people asking about the NX with the way they've been handling it. Or... Not handling it I guess.

How do you 'seemingly' confirm something. The dude is quoted as saying "Nintendo will most likely hold a Nintendo Direct in the future - before launch - to discuss it."

By using the words "most likely" the quote means absolutely nothing. He could be guessing, he could be deliberately trying to throw a fake. Confirmed my gluteus maximus.

You guys had me at blood and semen.

What better way to celebrate than firing something out of the pipe?

Nothing is true. Everything is permitted.

@rallydefault My point is that since Sony has entered the market, they've been top dog the entire time, except for the 7th generation when they screwed up. If they hadn't screwed up, they most likely would have sold more than the Wii. And yes, they did dominate in the PS1 era. PS1 sold 102.49 million units worldwide. Nintendo 64 sold 32.93 million units worldwide. Sega Saturn sold 9.26 million units worldwide. That's domination.

Anyways, that price is most likely a placeholder.

Oh such torment, a business shall have, to have the souls of the masses longing for your product!

Stop this torment and let them release said product, in silence and serene obscurity.

This harassment must come to an end!

There's a high probability (almost a certainty) that the communications manager of Nintendo of Canada wouldn't be in the know about every plan at Redmond or Kyoto. He'll most likely get a notification of an upcoming reveal only in the close vicinity of the event.
But him not knowing for sure might mean that the reveal isn't anywhere near imminent.

Just watched the latest NVC episode where they guessed the NX name. Personally I think it will be called either Fusion, Go or NintendoX

@skywake I thought it was supposed to come out in 2016 and it got delayed to 2017. I was pretty sure Nintendo said something along those lines. I am not going to dig through old articles trying to tie the knots together, but if I am wrong, then I am wrong.

@Moshugan I doubt the Vita analog sticks would be very comfortable for a Home Console experience.

People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

@dtjive Funny coincidence, I just downloaded it. I'd like them to stick with the codename, but we'll see.

It just sounds like a perfect name in my opinion if the hybrid thing is true. A decent name to start rebuilding the console brand with logical consistency between generations

Okay so for fun let's put down our predictions for the NX and we can go back and check who had the closest predictions! Answer the following questions (points in brackets)

Is it a hybrid? (1 point):
The name? (5 points):
Number of devices (e.g. differences in colour, harddrive capacity etc.) at available at launch (2 points for correct number, 1 bonus point per accurate explanation):
Reveal date (1 point for correct month, 3 points correct week, 5 points correct day):
Launch date (1 point for correct month, 3 points correct week, 5 points correct day):
Launch price (2 points, additional bonus point(s) for correct multiple price points):
Launch titles (up to 10 guesses, 2 points per correct guess, -1 point per incorrect):
