@Therad They have abandoned conventional home consoles. Anyone hoping for 'the most powerful home console ever (tm)' I think will be disappointed and maybe should have bought a PC, Xbox or PS earlier.
Edit* Although those that are not expecting the most powerful console ever (me) would welcome being surprised at the reveal!
I don't think it will be powerful, but I still think they will release a stationary console. And if they don't, well, poop happens. It isn't like it is hard to find alternatives.
@WebHead Hey now, let's not go nuts! It won't be long now. September is just around the corner...
...then October...
...then November...
...then Decemeber...
...and if we still haven't heard anything by then, well march is only three months away...
...then April...
...then May...
I never drive faster than I can see. Besides, it's all in the reflexes.
@Therad The only big game Nintendo has coming out is Pokemon and it'll sell millions regardless whether the NX has been revealed by then.
I don't see any reason in waiting for the NX to be revealed personally. I doubt it's anything revolutionary like Nintendo thinks, especially if Eurogamer is correct on its leaks.

I reckon they could get away with doing an announcement as late as January. But that'd be pushing it. Realistically I think sometime between now and November is more likely. Because if they wait too long they'll be upstaged by more and more leaks. And more to the point, if they wait too long they won't have time to have a direct talking about launch software and services.
If it was me working all this out?
September/October: NX reveal, a whole bit about the hardware itself. Nothing on software.
November/December: Bombard us with details about early software releases. Pricing & dates.
At this point they'd start pushing out advertisements for the NX. This is when they'd try to get pre-orders
January/February: Pre-launch housekeeping. More trailers, details on services etc
I've reached the point where it would be funny as I've reached the point where I really don't care when the NX is revealed. I'm still only on chapter 9 of my first playthrough of Fates, I haven't 100% completed Legend mode or a single Adventure map in Hyrule Warriors Legends, Federation Force and Color Splash don't seem to be the terrible games everyone made it out to be when they were revealed at E3 2015 and March 2016 Direct respectively, etc.
What I do want though is the Phantom Hourglass/Spirit Tracks pack trailer.

It isn't because of the Wii U, it is because of they make a splash in November and get people hyped, it might mean that people pre order it as presents instead of buying other stuff.
I'm gonna guess they're going to wait as long as possible to reveal it. But until then, their brand will just suffer more damage as more and more rumors swirl and people start either expecting big things based on the rumors or form a pre-reveal negative bias based on the same rumors. It's already happening, and it's their own fault the longer they wait to say anything about it. Personally, the rumors aren't favorable in my book, and I hope they're false.
@WebHead Well I wonder how much of Japan is aware of the Eurogamer rumours. If it's not much then Nintendo probably wouldn't care, after all their #1 aim is to be successful in Japan.
No way can Nintendo wait until 2017. After Pokemon Sun/Moon they have no top games being released on either system. If they announce the system in 2016 then at least people will know what they can look forward to not too long into 2017.
Still think the annoucement of this is contigent on whether the NX will have a Sun/Moon port. If it does then I suspect it'll be announced late september/early october. If not, then I think first week of December sounds about right
