@G0dlike
And at least that I can respect as an argument.

But we may have known about Skyrim last year, but we likewise know about Dark Souls this year. We knew about BotW and Odyssey last year. But we know about Pokemon and Fire Emblem this year (and Metroid Prime 4 and Bayonetta 3). We knew about Splatoon 2 and ARMS last year. We know about Kirby, Yoshi and Mario Tennis this year.

Are the games this year equal to the games last year? Well, no. And yes. Pokemon is bigger than Mario and Zelda combined. But the outlier should never be the benchmark, meaning 2017 should never be the standard which we expect from every single year (that said, Pokemon and Smash come along with Fire Emblem it could very well match last year).

But presuming it won't reach the same heights as 2017, is that really a big deal? Is "this year won't be as good as the best year ever" really a noteworthy issue? Or should we rather compare to the average year and see if it's above or below...

Also, aot of games we knew about this time last year, we had no idea when they were releasing. We didn't know what was coming in 2017 and what wasn't. Same can be said now. E3 will tell all. Let's see what they actually have in store for us first. In the meantime, there's lots of games releasing to enjoy.

Psalms 22:16 (1,000 yrs before Christ)
They pierced My hands and feet
Isaiah 53:5 (700 yrs before Christ)
He was pierced for our transgressions
Zachariah 12:10 (500 yrs before Christ)
They will look on Me whom they pierced

I would also really like to know more. Being a multi platform gamer it doesn't matter too much, but I am also under the impression that Switch is a little slow going at the moment. Can reason that away all I want, but the perception wont change. Ports/re-releases don't matter to me if I've played them before. Even those that I haven't, I am still aware that they are "old". I know that seems daft and older games are just as likely to be decent as new games, but they still have that old label attached. I can see both sides of this topic, but relying on blumin Kirby of all games until the next new first party game in June is a little off-putting to say the least. Nintendo need to start hyping earlier IMO.

Edit: I don't believe we will see Pokémon this year on Switch unless its a rush job. I will eat a hat (not mine) if I'm wrong though.

Wow, this thread is moving fast today!

Apologies if this has already been posted, but - ICYMI - The Wall Street Journal is reporting that their 'sources close to Nintendo' are saying that the company are 'more interested in peripherals than Switch 2.0' [via IGN]

Here's the relevant portion of the (IGN) article to save you a click...

"Nintendo will reportedly aim to increase the number of peripherals for the Switch in its second year on the market, rather than update its base hardware.

According to The Wall Street Journal's sources, Nintendo's focusing on better manufacturing and shipping of its current Switch model, to keep up with demand.

Alongside that, the sources say that "Switch features in the coming year could also include additional network-related features and peripherals to be attached to its USB Type-C port"."

I'm finding that last portion a little bizarre - the USB Type-C port is the little connector at the bottom of the unit that is used for charging/docking the Switch...it's true that the port is capable of multitasking (so could, in theory, be used for more than just charging when undocked) but you wouldn't be able to dock the Switch if that port was connected to another peripheral - and as the Dock is such a key component of the Switch's overall form factor, it just strikes me as odd that that connection (above all others) would be used for anything else.

What do you guys make of the story?

@Shellcore Yeah, me either - I'd probably be interested in a 'Switch 2.0' at some point, but I'm glad they're not talking about an upgrade so soon...I'd like to think that I'd get a good few years out of my Switch 1.0 before another iteration comes along - so that's welcome news indeed

@NaviAndMii Regarding the USB ports, it can already be used for the Smash Wii U GC adapter (though it functions as a pro controller) so the comment likely means they're re-releasing that for Switch so people can use the GC controller with Smash on Switch. Which is a rather obvious move as a lot of the Smash community refuses to use anything but GC controllers for Smash.

@NaviAndMii Did notice that they are only talking about the second year in the market. Presumably, a hardware update is still up for discussion in the third year.

FragRed

@Shellcore I would like to think Nintendo will want to hold off on any revisions for as long as possible. Basically, when momentum starts to slow then release the new hardware.

As for the first half of 2018, I think what Arlo says in his video is kinda what I am feeling.

No, not at all. If it’s not as good as last year, that’s fine. Last year was off the charts. Saying that, if Pikmin 4 is half the game that 3 was, and they do stealth release Pokemon or Metroid, it would certainly be anther fantastic year of releases. And nobody was expecting Labo when they started the ‘new way to play coming soon’ tweets, they could still have a surprise or 3 up there sleeves yet. A new F Zero and I’d be spent, VC launching with a few GC titles would also be a strong move.
I’m in no way complaining, i just think Nintendo have set expectations incredibly high with their Year 1 releases.

Actually, I wouldn't mind a hardware revision at all. Bump up the battery life, or keep the current battery life in exchange for a 1080p screen. Ideally both. Less bezel around the screen too.

As for peripherals that attached to the USB-C in the dock, I imagine, strictly in theory, it could be possible to emulate some dual-screen wii u features if they released a hardware peripheral that sent another image to the TV while you used your Switch as the second.

I don't think that's how it'll play out, but that's the only thing I can imagine at the moment.

NaviAndMii

@Grumblevolcano Oh, of course! Having digested it a bit more, I suppose that things like Labo (which looks like it mostly uses the Switch in undocked mode) could perhaps make use of the port somehow going forward as well - perhaps they feel comfortable that people 'get' the switching mechanic now and they can perhaps branch out a little bit more going in to Year 2? ..you're absolutely right though - the GC controller is pretty much expected for Smash games these days, so that must be high on the agenda to get support for it somehow! Good thinking!

EDIT: Ah, just seen @OorWullie's reply - seems the GC adapter uses the more standard USB ports (which is good, seeing as though that would allow docked play)

@Shellcore True I'd be happy if they waited until Year 5 to be honest! ..but tablet tech does move forward at quite a pace, so it wouldn't surprise me if we saw a revision before too long (..then again, this is Nintendo - and they historically laugh in the face of such things as 'power' and 'performance' - so who knows! )

I've been thinking about how they could make use of the USB-C port and thought the same as @MisterPi said above. Perhaps it could be something that plugs into it for emulating the Wii U's dual screen feature. For Wii U VC perhaps or more likely a new Super Mario Maker. Sounds plausible.

I'd love to see a hardware revision... circa 2020-2021. By that point, they can actually offer some real bang for your buck for upgrading. The current hardware has been out for less than a year after all, there's only so much upgrade you can give it.

Yeah, that's good thinking - it could allow them to bring the whole range of dual screen handheld titles (since DS) to the console as well - so could be a pretty smart play if done right! ..just imagining all of that VC goodness it could open up to the Switch is quite a mouthwatering prospect!

Ah, completely forgot about DS VC as well. I could definitely see a peripheral that emulates dual screens if it's used by a bunch of games such as for the VC service. I totally wouldn't mind a Wii U VC either, for games they don't care to port over fully
