@rallydefault
Idk. I really couldn't disagree more. To each their own of course, but the way I see it, we got
Nintendo Switch (fave console of all time)
Xbox One X (amazing 4K console, MS finally nails it)
Zelda Breath of the Wild (GotY #1)
Super Mario Odyssey (GotY #2)
Persona 5 (one of the best JRPG's ever)
Xenoblade Chronicles 2 (surely will be one of the best JRPG's ever, just like the last two)
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (best cart racer ever made)
Splatoon 2 (funnest competitive shooter I've ever played, Salmon Run is crack)
Fire Emblem Warriors (best Warriors game to date)
Mario Rabbids Kingdom Battle (incredible strategy game)
ARMS (insanely fun, new and creative fighter unlike anything before)
Pokken Tournament DX (not my thing but, have friends who love it)
Skyrim Switch (generational classic, amazing handheld edition)
DOOM Switch (best FPS on a handheld ever released)
LA Noire Switch (like AAA Ace Attorney, fantastic port)
Resident Evil Revelations 1 and 2 (full motion and single Joycon co-op)
Ultra Street Fighter II (my favorite SF ever in HD on handheld, amazing)
SnipperClips Plus (fantastic new co-op game perfect for Switch)
Horizon Zero Dawn (incredible game)
Nioh (another Dark Souls classic)
Nier Automata (another Platinum Games classic)
Wolfenstein 2 (right alongside DOOM as my fave FPS ever)
Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom (love this game)
Cuphead (Indie GotY #1)
Steamworld Dig 2 (Indie GotY #2)
And even though they're not my thing, Assassins Creed Origins is apparently the best in a long time, and people seem quite happy with Destiny 2. I'm also thrilled with NBA 2K18 on Switch, even FIFA 18. Surely WWE 2K18 will add to that.
A lot of my excitement has come from great games getting handheld versions (Well, even better than handheld, they're hybrid versions which are handheld and console and portable console in one). Like Skyrim. That would've been an exciting release on its own merit. As would DOOM or LA Noire or Resident Evil Revelations Collection. But a hybrid version of those games is just incredibly exciting. And that is the biggest accomplishment of the Switch. Great games that release are even more exciting thanks to the hardware they're running on.
Psalms 22:16 (1,000 yrs before Christ)
They pierced My hands and feet
Isaiah 53:5 (700 yrs before Christ)
He was pierced for our transgressions
Zachariah 12:10 (500 yrs before Christ)
They will look on Me whom they pierced
2017 is probably one of the best years I've ever seen this industry have. An overwhelming bright point in a generation that was, to this point, incredibly underwhelming (if still better than the cookie-cutter nightmare that was last gen).

Going forward I'm not using Amazon for game purchases. This is twice in a row they've screwed up.
What sucks is in the UK, you either use Amazon or Nintendo UK Store, because GAME is a no, or Smyths if available to deliver (Which they aren't here).
Sonic Forces was late because of a payment issue they didn't notify me of until launch day, and didn't attempt taking payment more than once.
Pokémon Ultra Moon is literally not in this realm of existence. Both Amazon and other tracking says "Delivered to you or a neighbour at 9:34am. If with a neighbour, we left a card for you".
There was no card. No was no 3DS sized parcel in my mailbox, where it can easily fit. Not in any safe space. No neighbours have it. It's just not here!
I'm looking at digital only, even though it's more expensive. It's better than having potential money vanish.

@YummyHappyPills Delivery can be a pain in the arse. I lived on the 12th floor for a while, and they were too lazy to take the lift upstairs so they always left a note in my mailbox saying they would return tomorrow, and after three days they'd drop it at the nearest pick-up point. Even though I was home all the time. The end result was that I sat there waiting for three days and in the end I had to pick it up myself too. You can always go to a regular brick-and-mortar store.
@YummyHappyPills Yeah, I'm switching over to Best Buy with the exception of exclusives. Amazon's poor track record of Switch deliveries lately on this side of the ocean has finally gotten to me.
@Octane I could go to a regular brick and mortar store. Exceeeeept....well....
So the only place in my town that sells games are the supermarkets, and they aren't big, so its one game at a time, usually the guaranteed third party moneymakers like CoD and FIFA.
Two towns over, we have a CEX. That's it.
If I want to go to a brick and mortar store that sells new games, that's GAME, over 10 miles away. If I want somewhere that won't short change me, even further away! It's crazy.

@Octane I was in a better place when I was at university! Problem with THAT is a ROOM cost £485 a MONTH!
It gets better though. I could go to one of those brick and mortar stores, if today I didn't get informed not to walk much and that I am expected to have the first of two sessions of foot surgery "In the next few months".

Fact of the matter is though, Amazon are complete idiots with box sizes. I had ordered a Micro SD card from them. A tiny thing, really. It arrived in a box that would probably have fit the Switch.
Yeah.
@YummyHappyPills, have you tried thegame collection.net? The prices are not to bad and I have yet to have a bad experience with them
I second and third this. I've always had pre-order games early with them and at a lower price than most other retailers. I've used them for a couple of years. 5*
@JaxonH
I'm not going to take too much of my life to compose a list like yours, but almost every single one of those games I could go down and say: sequel, reboot, copy, etc.
Only original games on that list: Snipperclips and ARMS
That's literally it. And that's exactly what I'm saying. There's no more original, creative IP coming out. Even @Octane said what's going to be great about next year: Shadow of the Colossus. I mean... that's just a rehash. Seriously? Is that how low we've come as gamers? Where the stuff we're salivating over is just the next sequel or spruce-up of an already existing game? It's the perfect example of how Shadow of the Colossus, back in 2005 over 10 years ago, was an original and awesome game.
We just don't see stuff like that anymore.
And like, yea - DOOM is good and Skyrim is good, but bleh - they're all the same. We've all played DOOM and games almost exactly like it a million times. Same with Skyrim. But how often have you played a game like Viva Pinata when that came out? Mirror's Edge? World of Warcraft?
That's the difference I see in the gaming industry between now and 10 years ago. None of these publishers want to take chances anymore. Mark my words: creativity will continue to suffer, younger gamers will grow up thinking these games we're getting now are "excellent," and the medium as a whole will largely depend on indies for true innovation and the future of originality.
That's really all I have to say. I respect your opinion and I'm glad you like all of those games you listed, but that list is pretty empty to me. Good efforts at filling templates, sure, but pretty empty at heart.
@rallydefault I agree that creativity has gone downhill. I've been thinking about this lately myself. In past generations, NOTHING had been done before. Basically every game was innovative in some way. And now that we've established genres and stuff, creativity has taken a backseat to doing something new with pre-existing genres. That isn't inherently a bad thing, but it is very rare to get a game that really changes things up nowadays.
It's pretty sad when Breath of the Wild, a generic open world game in so many ways, is being held up on a pedestal for really shaking up the open world genre. It's a great game, of course, but I don't see what's so revolutionary about it as an open world game. As a Zelda game, sure, it's really different. But I just don't understand the people who were blown away by how "different" it is from other open world games they've played.
There's only so far you can go into something before you start scraping the bottom of the barrel. Especially in an industry like gaming which tends to have huge requirements and limitations, which in turn hampers huge creativity.
Personally I'm generally enjoying the way things are going so far. For my taste, I'm fine with not everything being separate completely unique concepts. As long as the matter itself is interesting enough and enjoyable I'm good.
