I enjoyed it but am not a big fan of it. It's not a true Zelda game and it's too big and time consuming. Nerrel's review on Youtube explains my opinion of the game in detail.
I think it is among the best in the series. My only issues are with the story and the freedom allowed. Firstly, the story is ok, but I wish they wouldn’t have went with the memory system. Second is the freedom, specifically in dungeons. while I did enjoy them for the most part, I had to restrict myself to get the same feeling as past games. That meant no zonai parts, and turning off the map. having the map on made me go from point A to B instead of exploring the dungeon, while having it off made me explore and find the beacons myself. And Zonai parts just broke nearly every dungeon.
But everything else was great and I would give the game a 9.5/10. Tied with Wind Waker, Twilight Princess, and Majora’s Mask at the top of my list.
I do hope TOTK was the last game in the BOTW style. Obviously open world is here to stay, but I hope the story telling goes back to the old style. Plus, with the freedom Link has with movement in the games, I can’t see a way to get that classic dungeon feel without implementing your own restrictions.
My personal preference would be another take on a Wind Waker style game. Make the ocean bigger and the islands more expansive. Maybe it could be set in between Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks.
It's the first game ever I couldn't put down even after I defeated the final boss. That makes Tears of the Kingdom a very special experience for me. Every single game I've played before died to me the minute the credits rolled. Sad but true.
It wasn't as transformative of an experience as BotW, but built upon it in some very nice ways, particularly regarding the main quest/storyline, which I thought was much improved (the return of more traditional dungeons/bosses particularly). My only issue regarding the dungeons is that (compared to the rest of the game) they felt kinda small with the exception of the Thunder Temple (unless you count the trips up to the Sky & Water Temples to be parts of the dungeons themselves, which is fair. Soaring above the storm and diving down into the Sky Temple was exhilarating).
