Hello, people of NintendoLife. As an enthusiast of third party games being ported to the Nintendo Switch, what are some of your most wanted Switch ports?

You only need to know about my many obsessions, which consist of Lego, Fortnite, Nintendo, PlayStation and Xbox games, drawing on my Tablet, Dragon Ball Z, My Hero Academia, Thomas The Tank Engine, Star Wars, and Ninjago.

Magician

Feels redundant considering my "It's on PS4/Steam, why not Switch?" thread, but I'll play along.

Guilty Gear Strive - I'm a fan of arcsystemworks. The Switch has ports of Dragon Ball FighterZ and DNF Duel, both running on the same engine GGS runs on, UE4. So other than cartridge size cost concerns, I don't know why GGS isn't on Switch?

Dragon's Crown Pro - Atlus, after a fairly slow start, has really begun the process of bringing their games to Switch. Vanillaware is the development jewel in Atlus's pocket. Dragon's Crown is arguably their best game. Also, Hitoshi Sakimoto is my favorite video game composer, and his work here is excellent.

Child of Eden - I'm a fan of Tetsuya Mizuguchi and the games he produces. Lumines is the best drop-puzzler not named Tetris. Tetris Effect is arguably the best iteration of Tetris. And Child of Eden is the best rail shooter not enough people have played.

Dark Souls 2 and Dark Souls 3.... surely both of these would be achievable on Switch? Albeit with some graphical compromises etc

ToeJam and Earl 3. Locked on Original Xbox.
Sega could do something if they wanted to....

I know this is almost literally impossible, but a port of Dreams would be an absolute “Dream” come true.

Also, a port of Suoer Mario Galaxy 2, Metroid Prime 2/3, TTYD, and Super Paper Mario

People want much more popular titles that are rather easier accessible than other games like Wind Waker and the prime trilogy. But games that are trapped on their source console should be more eligible for ports. I’m talking Luigi’s Mansion Dark Moon (yippee) Kid Icarus Uprising, Fire Emblem Path of Radiance/Radiant Dawn, Thousand Year Door, etc. Games like Wind Waker have been ported twice already, three times for the prime trilogy and Twight Princess. I’m not saying these games should never ever get republished, but we desperately need games that have never been ported to reach new audiences.

Wait, why do we need a signature? Eh, I don’t know. Here’s your signature.

Xenoblade X springs to mind. It's the last of the great Wii U exclusives that I'd think could be ported. After that, we'd be down to the ones where you'd need to rip the heart out of the gameplay to get them working without the pad.

Oh Boy where to start

  • Obligatory Zelda WW/TP HD and Xenoblade X
  • Obviously Metroid Prime 2 and 3
  • Fire Emblem Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn
  • F-Zero GX
  • Star Fox Assault especially if it comes with improved controls and online multiplayer(or even just playable with bots)
  • More hard to get/expensive GC games like Skies of Arcadia, Eternal Darkness and Twin Snakes
  • MGS4, Rising, Portable Ops, Peace Walker, and MGSV. MC Vol. 1 gives me hope
  • Timesplitters(seeing MS pulling their weight and getting them BC gives me hope)
  • More of those retro Star Wars games(we never got Battlefront or Rogue Squadron )
  • Marvel Vs Capcom(mostly 1 and 2, though it's really weird they never brought UMVC3)
  • Speaking of Vs, Tatsunoko Vs Capcom and Capcom Vs SNK
  • More Vanillaware games like Odin Sphere, Dragon's Crown and Muramasa
  • More Capcom 6th gen games like God Hand and Viewtiful Joe
  • More 3DS games like Kid Icarus Uprising, Metroid Samus Returns, the Zelda remakes and A Link Between Worlds
  • Honestly, some CoD, especially the older games like W@W, MW1-3, Black Ops, heck, CoD 1-3
  • On that tangent, the classic Medal of Honor games, especially the PC exclusive Allied Assault

TTYD and maybe super paper Mario. And also the kingdom hearts games. (No the cloud versions do not and will never count.)

More classic Nintendo games, mostly.

And I'm almost 100% certain it would never happen, but I would actually love barebones(ish) ports of other games from the 3DS library, especially Pokémon games, which don't need to be remade, just repurposed for single-screen gameplay, and natively rendered in HD (and maybe replace some of the lower quality textures).

@Professor_Plumber : Why would it need to be "less graphically intensive"?

The Switch is more powerful than the 360/PS3, so it could at least meet halfway between those versions and the PS4/Bone ports.

But frankly, I'd pass on such a release as it would likely require a massive download. And if Rockstar were to port GTA Online as well, then that should be a separate optional download while GTA V should be complete on cart.

But we're also so far into the Switch's lifespan at this point, that I'd rather wait until the next console to get a GTA V port as we should end up with an overall better game.

@Professor_Plumber : I have absolutely ZERO expectation of GTA VI ever coming to a Nintendo console (at least not within the next decade) unless Rockstar have secretly been developing GTA VI with the Switch (and/or its successor) in mind (and perhaps the last gen home consoles as well), which might explain the extended delay.

It's also extremely likely to be the biggest and most expensive game in the series yet (as each successive game tends to be), and will likely be an evergreen title that will be ported all the way to the PS7 (and we can say this without a hint of irony).

Time will tell. But if GTA VI ends up being a next-gen exclusive, forget about it.

With the recent confirmation of Batman Arkham Trilogy and Metal Gear Solid collections coming to Switch (including MGS4 and MGS5), I really feel as if most of the games I wanted ported to Switch, have come to Switch (though sometimes they've been subpar, unfortunately, such as with Ni No Kuni 2).

There are still some left, but... not many. I'm not going to bother listing games I don't think could run well. Those would be best saved for Switch 2.

Switch Ports I Want

  • Mass Effect Trilogy
  • F-Zero GX
  • Paper Mario TTYD
  • Metroid Prime 2
  • Metroid Prime 3

Switch 2 Ports I Want

  • Resident Evil 4 Remake
  • Final Fantasy VII Remake

Man... there's really not a lot of games left I feel like I desperately want ported. It's kinda crazy, actually. I used to have these massive lists.

And of the ones I do want, they all run on Steamdeck! Literally every single one of them.

I’ve got a few on my wish list… the obvious first would be Wind Waker HD and Twilight Princess HD, but really….

I’ll die on this hill, Xenoblade X deserves the same acclaim that the main trilogy does, and doesn’t deserve to die on a failed platform. Monolith’s bigger than ever, their franchise is at peak popularity and there’s been far more technically ambitious projects on Switch (including it’s direct open world competitor, The Witcher 3 and even Skyrim), so there’s little reason why not.

Currently playing:
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth
Persona 4 Golden
Dragon Quest XI S
F1 23
Xenoblade Chronicles 2

Gosh dangit. That's one of my most highly desired ports and it completely slipped my mind.

Yes. Xenoblade Chronicles X. Please

Well after getting the main Arkham trilogy, even if only one is on the cartridge I would love to see the following game that match specific physical conditions

1. Fallout 3 GotY edition (on the freaking cartirdge!)

2. Fallout New Vegas Ultimate Edition (on the freaking cartridge!)

3. Elder Scrolls Oblivion (on the freaking cartridge!)

4. Sacred 2 Gold Edition (on the freaking cartridge!)

I also want Fallout 4 but I know that they will cheap out on it.

All in all every post is welcome by me as long as there is a respectable physical edition.

My god, I forgot how much I love this game.

Funnily enough, my main concern would be the controls. Although many didn't like the controls of this game, I think the stylus offered a level of precision that would be difficult to replicate with dual analog. I guess we have gyro on the Switch but I'm not a big fan of using it in handheld mode tbh.

Regardless, we either need a port or a sequel to this. It's absolutely criminal that the series had such a great revival only to go dormant again for over a decade.

Otherwise my main hopes for the Switch are:

  • Classic Pokemon (really anything up to RSE)
  • Wind Waker / Twilight Princess
  • Paper Mario TTYD (looking increasingly unlikely with the Mario RPG remake)
  • Yoshi's Woolly World
  • Tomb Raider reboot trilogy
  • Mass Effect trilogy
  • Yakuza series
  • 3D Sonic (Adventure 1/2, Heroes, Unleashed, Generations)
  • The odd JRPG that for some reason didn't make it (One Piece Odyssey, Sakura Wars, Soul Hackers 2, etc)
