Warriors Orochi 4 has been announced for Switch, and today Koei Tecmo released a short gameplay video. And yes, the Switch version is coming to the West!

Anyone else excited? Looks pretty good, hopefully the performance isn't terrible on Switch. Overall I'm just happy that we're getting a non-Nintendo-spinoff warriors game on Switch in the West at last.

More footage will be released tomorrow as well.

[expletives with positive context]! Maybe someday we'll even get a Dynasty game on a Nintendo system instead of DANCING AROUND IT LIKE THEY'VE BEEN DOING FOR YEARS.

I mean sure, they have PC versions, but they're always not very bueno.

Also if Hyrule Warriors is sort of a performance baseline, this should be adequate on the switch. Then again I've been playing Warriors games for a long time and remember some of the entries on the PS2 where enemy limits and render distance were so pitiful that it takes a lot for me to consider performance 'bad'.

I'm quite keen, but I'm really sick of all the crossover Warriors games at this point. Would it kill Koei to port Dead or Alive V to the Switch?! I nearly bought a PS3 to be able to play it. That is how much I loved Dimensions. Thankfully I resisted as an enhanced port for the PS4 was announced mere days later.

The only thing I'm dreading is the inevitable abundance of hundreds of dollars of costume DLC. As long as they include all of the DLC in a future complete rerelease of the game, I wouldn't mind double-dipping.

"Gee, that's really persuasive. Do you have any actual points to make other than to essentially say 'me Tarzan, physical bad, digital good'?"

Well here we have it, a good amount of gameplay, debut trailer, and a release date--September 27 in Japan. Still just "2018" for the rest of the world, though.
Here's the full stream, with gameplay starting about 35 minutes in.

And here's the release date trailer.
Looking pretty good to me! Standard warriors stuff, but I like the look of it with all the classical mythology. I look forward to seeing gameplay of the Switch version.

@Tsurii Bizarre localization decisions. I think the first Orochi game was an entirely different series in Japan but was localized as Orochi in the West, so the rest of the series has to follow in that numbering. Kinda like Final Fantasy 6 being localized as Final Fantasy 3 in America.

I don't usually keep track of the mainline warriors games (I tend to only play the themed ones and samurai warriors on occasion) but I've been in a mood after playing HW and FEW back to back. So for now I'm getting this. Maybe not day one though because the aforementioned games are massive and that is with franchises I care about.

....Did I just see somebody release a bull in that game?...o_0

@ilikeike: I don't know if you care or not but, if your looking for non-Nintendo Warriors games I believe there are some One Piece Warriors-style games on Switch.

Lots of good Warriors style games on Switch.

I love Hyrule Warriors and Fire Emblem Warriors, and this will be next in line. There's also Fate Extella and One Piece Pirate Warriors 3.

@Executer66 I just found out about that one. Completely slipped under my radar, and I was surprised when I saw how favorable the reviews for the Switch version were. I'm not a big fan of One Piece, but I might still pick it up whenever it's on sale.

@Tsurii @ilikeike The game we got as Warriors Orochi 2 was called Musou Orochi: Maou Sairin in Japan. So when the next game came out it was Musou Orochi 2 in Japan and Warriors Orochi 3 in the west.

Musou Orochi = Warriors Orochi
Musou Orochi: Maou Sairin = Warriors Orochi 2
Musou Orochi 2 = Warriors Orochi 3
Musou Orochi 3 = Warriors Orochi 4

I have more than enough Warriors on my plate with the FE & Hyrule variants, but if I'm ever in the mood for another one I'll look into this. If DQHI&II ever came west though, it'd take priority.

Warriors Orochi 4 is headed to the West on Switch on October 16 in North America and October 19 in Europe. There's a brand new trailer featuring some localized gameplay. Also of note, it will feature splitscreen co-op with support for single joycon play. Targeting 1080p docked, 720p handheld, 60fps in all modes. Not sure if it'll hit those goals, but it's nice to hear that they're putting in the effort unlike some other switch ports.

Not sure when/if I'll get it as I got both Fire Emblem Warriors & Hyrule Warriors this year, but it looks interesting so it'll go on the wishlist.

I hope it's handled like the aforementioned games, where the main story mode is really accessible due to a variety of difficulty settings, and relagating the most difficult challenges to an extra mode (the History & Adventure modes), as that is what really allowed me to get into those games.

I never got far in Samurai Warriors 2: Empires because I didn't care for all the nation building aspects you had to partake in, and while I got far in it, I never beat Samurai Warriors: Chronicles because the later missions just became so hard, IMO. Those experiences really made me wonder if the series just wasn't for me, but the way the Nintendo entries were handled really clicked for me.
