Fortnite should be pretty straightforward since its free-to-play. Just download Fortnite to each Switch, log in and off you go. No online subscription required for online play when its a ftp game.
Minecraft would be possible, but not as straightforward since it's a paid game. You'd need to buy copy for each Switch I think - I'm pretty sure the virtual game cards nerfed the ability to play the same digital game on two console simultaneously - and also a paid Switch Online Subscription for each user (or both users on the same Family account).
This is exactly in line with what I was thinking - that I would have to purchase two Minecraft copies. Both of us are on the same family account, so we should be good to go there, correct?
@yayasolete13 my son and I really enjoy playing Fortnite on the couch together - one of us on the TV and the other on the Switch. However you do it - it's a blast with the family
Minecraft also has a local area network multiplayer mode, so you don't necessarily need the Switch Online accounts to play it. You do need two copies of the game though.
There's also multiplayer on a single Switch if need be.
@Matt_Barber that's interesting - I did not know that. How exactly does that work? I have a wired internet connection for both switches - do I need to run via wifi only? Or, is the lan mode only available if you play on a computer?
We tried multiplayer on one switch, but it's just not feasible - even with a good sized tv, it is too distracting since the tv splits horizontally. I got the two tv setup specifically for MC and FN.
I'm very interested in the LAN setup though - mind elaborating a bit please?
@Matt_Barber Thanks. I am running into major issues, and I have no idea why.
I have me as the primary acct holder, on the primary switch. There are 4 total family members on the primary.
I want to move one family member (and all of their save data) to the secondary switch. I am thinking this should allow us to play FN duos & minecraft together, each on our own tv.
On the secondary console, when try to import a family member, it keeps asking for the nintendo account, but I already have them linked. And when I try to export the user from the main to the secondary, it simply will not link, and I have both consoles literally on top of each other, so distance is not an issue.
Am I doing something wrong? Sorry if I am annoying, I am actually a programmer, and I think nintendo makes this part very difficult to figure out
