Topic: Travel with Switch OLED

I am going on vacation soon and want to take my Switch OLED with me. I would prefer to not take my dock, so I am looking for a charger that I can take instead. I would love to be able to show both handheld and TV mode to a relative, but that is not critical. Obviously being able to charge the device is most important.

I have this charger for my Pixel phone.

I believe it will work as a charger, yeah? Or should I get the official AC cable (which is not as easily packed)

Are there any reliable, safe, portable TV connection options out there? My understanding is that the Switch needs more power for TV mode and only the official power adapter should be used with the dock, so I am guessing the answer is no.

On the basis I've never used a third party dock, the Genki one looks really good.

It seems like all the issues about bricking the Switch have been ironed out.

I would, however, be coincious of the switch getting enough air when docked though.

(It doesn't mention the oled on its site though...)

@paulkem If you have the oled, why not take the ac adapter that came with it? You can charge the console without the dock.

@WoomyNNYes, that is a valid question. 1) I didn't want to mess with pulling that cord from the power strip behind by entertainment center and 2) I was hoping I could kill two birds with one stone i.e. one charger for both my phone and my Switch.

@Rambler. That Genki plug thing looks about perfect but is kind of pricey. If I knew I was going to want to use TV mode on another TV more often, I guess it might be worth it. I cannot see anything about OLED either. I guess I need to contact them and ask.

I am not sure i understand the concern about airflow. As long as the vents are not blocked, it should be fine outside of the dock, right?

@paulkem
It is pricy! I'm sure it didn't cost that when I last looked.
There are air vents on the back, so laying it down could block them, I think.

Alright, so I decided that the only safe way to do this would be to buy an official dock and gut it and 3d print a new compact shell for it. I found a kid on FB marketplace who had just a dock for sale and am going to get it from him tomorrow. I will start printing the new shell tomorrow too. Unfortunately, he did not have the AC adapter anymore. So, since the official adapter outputs 39 watts and the adapter I linked above only 18 watts, I guess I will need to pick up an adapter too. I hope all of this fits in my case.
