Topic: Transferring player issues

I have been working at this for a week, ever since I bought my new OLED Switch. On my original device, I created a new player to explore the early stages of Zbotw. I advanced it far enough that I want to keep both my original player and my explorer player. I tried to follow the instruction to the letter to transfer my data to the new Switch, making it the primary switch, but when I did, my explorer player did not get transferred. Every time I try to transfer it, it asks me to link the account, but won't let me saying the account is already active. I understand that to mean my original account. I did not set up a separate account for my explorer player and I don't want to. Can I still get it to show on the new Switch and still be able to use both switches with it? Thanks for any help.

@TACman I know this.😉 I learned it when I transferred to my OLED.

The switch won't transfer a Switch User's save data unless that switch user is linked to a nintendo account. (kind of an annoying restriction) Making an account is free, but it does require a different email address. Nintendo only allows one nintendo account per email address.

Thank you WoomyNNYes! I created an account for my other player, but when attempting to transfer the data, I was cautioned that the data would be deleted from the original switch. I thought there was a way to retain the data in both places, or is that only if I pay for the on-line storage service? It seems odd to me that my player cannot have more than one game in progress for Zbotw, but I may be naive to think that in today's world... Please confirm if this is the only way to move data from my old switch to the new one. Thanks again.

@TACman That is how the transfer system works, it deletes the source location after the transfer. BUT!!!! Yes, you can have your data on two switches, it's the primary & nonprimary console system (I don't know if it has a name). As far as setting that up goes with your new switch, I think you link your new console's switch user to your existing nintendo account, and it will it will probably ask which console will be your "primary" console, and probably import or share game save data after. Ive never done it, so I'm fuzzy on how setting up works.

There is a caveat to this system though. The nintendo ecosystem only wants you to use one console at a time (for game ownership reasons, and to prevent game save conflicts). If you want the freedom to play the same game on both consoles at once, especially an online game, or play a two player game with two consoles at once, you'll have to buy a second copy of the game.

These two nintendo support pages should help:

Thanks again WoomyNNYes. That is what I want to do, that is to have my alternate player appear on both of my switches. However, I am still struggling to move the content. My current state is: Moved my main account to OLED switch. I have two players on nonprimary switch, let's say A and B, and I have two players on my primary switch now, let's say A and C. I can play player A on both switches without losing ground. I cannot seem to figure out the how to move B from the now nonprimary switch to my OLED (primary) one. Do I need to create a third player on the primary switch with the exact name and profile in order for it to work? Whenever I got to transfer player data from one to the other and have them both on and ready to transmit and/or receive data, the primary never 'sees' the nonprimary player and times out. What am I doing wrong please? I confess I have not checked out your two links, but plan to do that next. You may want to hold off replying until I do that, but if you see something that I'm doing wrong in my description of the problem above, by all means correct me. Thanks!

@TACman Ehhh. While Nintenod's support directions are thorough, sometimes I don't find them easy to digest, but it's rare I see something better.

I could fumble through it on my own, but don't know it well enough to summarize it efficiently in a post. I think this clip will help. Even though it's from 2019 when the Switch Lite came out, I think the menus should still be the same.

I'm pasting the link to play at the timestamp of a key point to answering your question.
(edit: if the menus have changed, you can probably find a more recent video for setting up a second switch.)

Also if you haven't getting a NSO subscription if you want cloud saves so if one loads the game on both they can download the updates data to the other and vise versa just you can't play same game at the same time on both but you can transfer the data back and forth if that works.
