Hi, my 2017 switch had a defective cooler and needed be replaced. I ordered the cooler online and asked a talented friend that does mobile repair services to replace it for me. Worked perfectly. But months after this , I found out my touch screen was not working at all, not even a single touch works. I haven't used the touch screen since way before the cooler replacement, so I don't know if the problem occurred during, before or after the service.
Though I'm a little but suspicious my friend could have accidentally removed a cable, or at least not put it back correctly. I have no idea how the touch screen hardware is, does it have those delicate flat cables like the joy con does for the SL/SR/Leds?( and those usually stop working SMH). If so I could send him back for him to check it out. If not, I will need to send to Nintendo here in Brazil, and it will probably have a decent fee. I have to fix my joy con SL/SR/Leds as well, so I might just send the whole package. I did not want to do this as I just bought a new game( Pokémon sword, but I will lose my save file) and I didn't want to back off from my switch for a while.
Any suggestions appreciated. Thanks for reading and have a great day.
@RaphaBoss I've been here since 2017. For the most part, people don't get technical in this forum, and haven't talked about fixing their Switches, believe it or not. I recently asked if anyone has repalced their Switch battery, and nobody replied that they had. But I already knew it was a bit of a longshot to ask here.
The only thing I do know is that you can test the touch screen, but I'm not sure how much good that will do. It probably only confirms what you already know - that your touch screen doesn't seem to work.
Open Switch settings, scroll down to System, and in there you can find the option to test touch screen input.
@WoomyNNYes Already did that, not a single input works, not even in stylus mode. It's like the switch digitizer is no connected or broken. I did a factory reset (the one where I only keep game saves and users) and it didn't work. I will ask another professional I found in my region to check it. If he doesn't solve it, I'm sending it to Nintendo, will lose my saves and probably have a high cost for the repair. My switch never felt or anything, I mostly play docked and take good care of it. I don't know why this happened and it saddens me. It's the second problem I have with it not counting the joy cons.
@RaphaBoss Look up some tutorials related to the touch screen - try ifixit.com or YouTube. There you'll learn how the touchscreen integrates with the rest of the system and what the obvious things to look for might be.
You guys had me at blood and semen.
What better way to celebrate than firing something out of the pipe?
@Tasuki my switch is out of warranty, so it will cost me anyway. I could easily send to Nintendo , but I fear I will lose my splatoon and pokemon saves.
@gcunit I watched it. Seems like the touch screen digitizer is in the switch's front, not behind where you need to open to replace the cooler. There is cable there that you need to remove the screen to access it. There is no way my friend accidentally removed it while replacing the cooler from behind the switch lol. He said the touch screen worked fine after the cooler replacement. The touch screen stopped working out of nowhere. I did a software reset and it didn't solve it, probably not a software thing. I can't believe the digitizer just stopped worked without any physical damage. Doesn't seem to be a common failure as I haven't seen many people with this. It's not much different from a phone screen. I will try opening it again on another local shop and see if they can solve it, otherwise I'm sending it to Nintendo, but I do not want to lose my saves. I'm desperate.
This is what happens with midnight DIY repairs from Inexperienced people - if they didn't diagnosis/test the problem before repairing and now will cost more to fix if it was touchscreen issue. Let this be a Learning Lesson if they don't diagnosis it first one shouldn't go replacing parts first.
@SwitchForce Boy, the touch screen digitizer is in the switch's front. The replaced cooler must be acessed by opening the switch from behind, you can't just mistakely remove the digitizer while openening the back of the Switch. It just doesn't make sense.
