@Jalex_64 Yeah that’s true and you are right. It really didn’t do much given the cost of mass purchasing of storage. But the point I was making was that the OLED model isn’t a reason for Nintendo to not have any new console coming.

If we want to be REALLY pedantic technically every Switch post 2019, all SKUs, use a slightly newer SoC. Technically it could in theory run about 30% faster. But it doesn't. Nintendo just used that additional headroom to extend the battery life
But still, it's certainly not what you'd describe as a revision because to the end user you got all the same games and they ran exactly the same. It's not even like the DSi, New 3DS or GBC where you got double or more RAM, double core counts or clocks and additional tricks. It was just.... slightly more power efficient
Nice but..... doesn't count

Which games do you think have a (at least slight) chance of appearing in the launch window from 3rd parties that could potentially be system sellers? Persona 6? Too soon probably. That whole COD shebangs maybe, parents don't realize and kids will drool in joy for their bullet-ridden, virtual crack.
Also I think we'll see some kind of "definitive edition" or "deluxe upgrade patch" for Fortnite, just because it's such a huge thing amongst kids on Switch!

Top 5 Indies I'd recommend you try: #1 Lovecraft's Untold Stories, #2 Moonlighter, #3 Hotline Miami, #4 Inside, #5 Into the Breach.
@Scollurio Definitely too soon for P6 considering Atlus didn't mention that it's even in development back at TGS. Me personally, I'm hoping for ports of Elden Ring, Devil May Cry 5, and Guilty Gear Strive at NG Switch's launch.
Switch Physical Collection - 1,537 games (as of December 22nd, 2025)
Switch 2 Physical Collection - 4 games (as of December 8th, 2025)
@Scollurio I'm still guessing Final Fantasy 7 remake part 1 unless Sony made more of an exclusivity deal than we know about.
We also know the Baldur's Gate 3 devs wanted to release on a Nintendo platform so if they are able to run sanely on Switch 2 hardware, I would expect to see that game early on unless the port just takes a long time to finish.
@Scollurio
I personally only care 3rd party kids games like PAW Patrol, My Universe, Paleo Pines, Epic Chef, Yonder the Cloud Catcher Chronicles, etc as I don't care at all with 3rd party AAA games.
@Stamina_Wheel Good find. I never checked these forums before but that’s some really interesting details someone managed to catch. Interesting that speakers have been mentioned but no one has seen any screens being shipped to Nintendo.

3rd party games tend not to sell as much as 1st party games unless they're EXTREMELY popular, I'm not really sure what they could put out early that would light the world on fire. I think what would really help the Switch 2 is if it got a good quantity of high end AAA games instead of one killer app. Usually the 1st party games are the extremely popular killer apps for a Nintendo console, not the 3rd parties.
@Bolt_Strike I hope Nintendo has learned from the Switch launch and not go back to the Wii U launch days. They don’t have a Zelda this time but hopefully there’s a good number of big new games they’ve been working on which is why it’s all remasters/remakes and ports for the Switch the next year.

@FragRed Oh I definitely think they have. There's a very stark difference between the two both in terms of launch strategy and the level of success they brought. There's definitely a sense that things are being saved for next gen with multiple high profile IPs that typically see regular releases being conspicuously absent. 3D Mario and Mario Kart in particular have seen very little throughout the Switch era, those two may figure to be key pieces of a robust launch year lineup. Here are some other IPs that may see a new release early (not sure some of these will be there Year 1, some might slip more into Year 2 or even 3, but this gives you a good idea of what might be in the pipeline):
Donkey Kong
Yoshi
2D Zelda
Luigi's Mansion
Animal Crossing
2D Metroid
Paper Mario
Mario Sports (probably Tennis if it's next gen)
Mario Party
Complement that with a few ports, remakes, new IPs and other smaller surprises and this should be sufficient for the first 2 years or so, definitely some heavy hitters on that list.
@Bolt_Strike After the insane sales for both the 3D Mario and Mario Kart that came out for Switch I can definitely see Nintendo wanting those to be there year one. Definitely good to announce them as part of the reveal, get everyone excited and wanting the new system before it’s even launched.
Donkey Kong would definitely be year two I think if a 3D Mario is year one.
I hope the next Yoshi game goes Kirby route with a 3D game.
Yeah I agree with a 2D Zelda. Something I’m sure is outsourced because the main team were working on TotK.
Not sure about having a 2D Metroid just yet if Metroid Prime 4 is a launch title.
Again I think Luigi’s Mansion would be year two to avoid two major Mario games being too close.
Animal Crossing would make a great year two game, though could see it being year three depending what else comes out year two.

@FragRed For sure I think 3D Mario and Mario Kart will be among the first games revealed even if they're not quite ready Year 1. They're probably the biggest releases they anticipate to be ready early in the lifespan that they expect the vast majority of early adopters to be interested in one or both of those games. They should definitely figure to be key parts of the console's early marketing strategy.
They could probably get away with making 2D Metroid a Year 2 title even with Prime 4 being Year 1. The only way I see 2D Metroid going into Year 3 or later is if Prime 4 gets a paid DLC update for Year 2. It will have been 4 years since Dread by Year 2 assuming the rumors about a 2024 launch are true, MercurySteam should probably have their next 2D Metroid game done by 2025.
@Bolt_Strike Aren’t MercurySteam working on a new IP though? I don’t know if they have multiple teams but I’m not sure whether they’ll be doing anything Metroid just yet if they’re focused on the new IP.
I think Nintendo has to have either a 3D Mario or Mario Kart year 1 without fail. It’s the biggest franchises they have, especially since a true 3D Zelda is out the question.

@FragRed there isn't a new 3D Zelda, but I really think there's a chance we'll see a "DLSS Remaster" of WindWaker or Twilight Princess at launch or in year one.
@Bolt_Strike With the Mario Kart DLC lasting until the end of this year, I wonder if they will wait a little bit for the new Mario Kart game, maybe it'll 18 months in?
@Bolt_Strike@FragRed@MarioBrickLayer I'm leaning towards a 3DS type situation with Mario Kart + 3D Mario in Fall/Holiday 2025 (3DS had 3D Land in November 2011 and MK7 in December 2011 despite the console launching in March 2011). Now that Detective Pikachu Returns is out, there's only 1 game and 2 DLC (Another Code, Teal Mask DLC and Side Order DLC) in the upcoming lineup which isn't Mario. If you add in Mario Kart and/or 3D Mario for holiday 2024 to the Mario side of things, that runs the risk of Mario burnout. There's also the fact that Nintendo always makes a deal out of special SMB anniversary years and 2025 is the 40th anniversary.
@Grumblevolcano i'm assuming the Switch 2 launches in the second half of 2024, the later it launches the more chance the launch title is also the "main" Nintendo game.
At this point I can't see anything other than 3D Mario being the main launch title, hopefully with Metroid Prime 4.
For the mario anniversary i'm hoping for a new version of Mario 35 + Mario Galaxy 2.
So, do you mean new 3D Mario in 2024 and then Mario Kart and Mario Galaxy 2 in late 2025?
@Grumblevolcano All signs are pointing to a 2024 release for the Switch 2, and they need some killer apps to launch with it if they want it to be remotely successful, especially considering it's following up the Switch. Otherwise everyone ignores it at launch and stays with the Switch, the system sees slow growth, and probably ends up doing terribly. Having key IPs available Year 1 was a key factor in the difference between the Wii U and Switch's fortunes, so if Nintendo is smart they'll have a launch lineup as close to 2017-esque as they can get (really we'll probably never see a 2017-esque lineup again because that was lightning in a bottle, but with the right planning they can get close). So yeah, saving BOTH 3D Mario and Mario Kart for Year 2 is practically financial suicide and risks the system trending closer to the Wii U than the Switch.
I don't think Mario burnout is a serious concern, especially when they're all liable to be very different experiences. This isn't like the days of NSMB and the 3D series where they all feel like the same game over and over again, Nintendo knows how to differentiate Mario entries now. And they're all relatively different genres too, Wonder is a pure 2D linear platformer, the 3D Mario game (assuming they continue what they've done in Odyssey and Bowser's Fury) will be a sandbox/open world 3D adventure platformer, and Mario Kart is a racing game. They appeal to different gamers with different preferences, so some people might not want all of them anyway. And there's really been a drought of Mario content, especially new original Mario content, for over 5 years so it's refreshing to have a lot of them (really they should pace the releases a bit better, but that's difficult to coordinate). At worst it might hurt sales a little bit, but Mario is so widely popular and diverse that it'll still sell bucketloads, and the hype of a new console should make up for it.
