They just put up another part today. It's a good read - confirmed some things I was guessing at regarding some of the choices made and it even highlights some of the difficulty when it comes to Zelda's style of storytelling(specifically regarding Breath/Tears).
Interesting how they see the classic sword&shield play as an obstacle to alternate gameplay like echoes. If you can hack your way through everything, why not? Speculatively, that same reasoning may be behind the use of breakable weapons in BOTW/TOTK. In all cases, you do get the sword&shield, but you're also forced to use alternate modes.
Looking at this article and some of the other (early) reviews like IGN's, I think I prefer their use of the term "top down" to describe this Zelda format, as opposed to "2D".
@cwong15 I can see what they mean with the sword. They rationalized it by saying that if people were given the option, they would probably stick to sword play instead of using the Echoes. That the devs wanted this game to really use the echo system. It's why they changed Link out for Zelda as the protagonist, since they couldn't justify the desired effect with Link.
"It is fate. Many have tried, yet none have ever managed to escape it's flow."
after nintendo lifes delightfully written review, (“cats everywhere” put a smile on my face!) i think im really going to enjoy this game. ive never played through an actual 2D zelda, although ive dabbled in the classics on switch online, so this will be really interesting for me! however, knowing that the main story is 10-20 hours and thw world is eight times as big as links awakening, im very glad i pre ordered.
im very wondering how much will this sell the first few days. totk sold ten million in three days, so im guessing this ones gonna be 4-5 million in a week. i know a lot of people are going to be annoyed by the frame rate issues, but as long as it isnt pokemon violet and scarlet level ill be fine :333 excitwd to open it up tomorrow afternoon!

I just bought it. It was surprisingly cheap, only 47,99€ . Thanks Saturn! Alright mother Hyrule calls, it is time to save her. I wish you a fun adventure everyone!
Hehe, "beware of monsters in the high grass". Am I playing Pokemon?
This is great fun and it feels like a real Zelda. It also looks so cute and adorable. When I was walking around in a house, I got the same feeling, like when I watched a Polly Pocket commercial, many years ago. I do not care for girls toys, but I felt like playing with this one would be fun.
This game is so good. I just completed the first dungeon, and it has exceeded my expectations. It is unequivocally a Legend of Zelda game, but a perfect mix of old school dungeons with modern LoZ mechanics. It creates a perfect balance of combat, exploration, and abilities.
Got past the castle. And i know im saying this even tho this is my first 2d zelda-is is absolutely astounding. the story is surprisingly dark, and the artstyle is honestly just beautiful. when i arrived in the town, i was shocked how pretty and detailed it was. i didnt really notice any frame rate issues too :3 however the echo mechanic is just mind blowing. it makes you feel so powerful. all the possibilities with all the echos is just delightful, and id go even far to say i was more impressed with this than with ultrahand. anyways an hour into the game and im really enjoying it. love how impa just killed those three soldiers with no mercy 😹 nyways it seems aunouma has succeeded in creating another masterpiece happy gaming everyone! oh, and my favorite character by far is the lovable tri.

After playing this at PAX, I couldn't wait to get into the full game, and I agree with the other sentiments that I've read here - surpassing my expectations. I love that dungeons are back, and I had so much fun going through the first one. There's so many influences from BOTW, TOTK, and LTTP all wrapped into one, with a wonderful new mechanic. This game is just so charming and delightful.
As someone who really didn't like TotK, I've been very pleasantly surprised with Echoes Of Wisdom. It really is a perfect fusion between nonlinear and traditional Zelda, and I love how the progression seems like it takes the most from A Link Between Worlds. I'm also surprised with how much depth is in the combat, it's so much more than just throwing rocks or waiting for your spawned enemies to attack. There's figuring out which echoes are best for each enemy, using bind to deal continuous damage almost like an actual weapon, or realizing some mobs attack right after spawning so you can repeatedly re-spawn them to increase their attack speed. It's been really rewarding to just fully engage with the game's various systems and see how they interact with each other.
