It's easy to get overwhelmed, but what I tell myself is, it's the journey that matters- not the destination. Play long enough, and eventually you'll go everywhere you need to go, do everything you need to do, grow powerful enough to take out any enemy.

That'll come in time. Don't rush it. Just let it happen naturally.

In the meantime, I generally focus on finding shrines and exploring. Once I can't find anymore low hanging fruit in the area, I'll look for a tower and head there, map a new area and now I've got more shrines to find in that area.

Once I got powerful enough to handle some decent enemies (9 hearts) I hit the depths and am exploring there to get the autobuild feature. Then I'm gonna go back to the main quest until I finish my first Dungeon. Then I'm gonna hit Korok Forest and start master sword quest. Then I'm gonna hit Hyrule Castle for the Hylian Shield.

Got it all planned out. Thing is, plans will change. If something catches my eye, I go for it. I've got all the time in the world to get back to what I plan to do. If I find a falling rock, I'm heading to the sky for a bit to explore some islands. If I find a cave, I'm checking out what's inside. You just have fun with it. The joy of exploring is the whole point. So just do whatever you want, and if you get tired of that, pick some other goal/objective. Between shrines, towers, exploring depths, finding poes/zonaite, Sky, memories, side quests, main quest and dungeons, there should always be something you feel like doing thats fun.

@Zuljaras
Yeah sounds just like it needs some practice and clever use of your resources, I didn't have too many bomb flowers, I did send some fire fruits at them but I found it never finished them off then they all just ran at me guns blazing and made quick work of me.
I'm really jealous of you >.< I really want to find this game relaxing as well. I think it might have something to do with my backlog, I'm just so aware of my time so I don't want to do the wrong thing and just enjoy it but I'm struggling to do that.

@JaxonH
That's really good advice thankyou. I think I'm just really overthinking it. My partner said just mark shrines and explore as you're on the way there, but then I just felt like I was going from A to B and missing so much along the way.

Its so nice that you have set goals like that, so your brain is always busy. I want what you have >.< it's such a nice feeling to think ok I'm gonna go and do this and then something draws your attention on the way there. I think I have so much anxiety of missing something like a little Korok helper puzzle or something if I don't try and see every nook and cranny of the map that it makes it stressful instead of therapeutic. But I guess I just need to see it like the game isn't going anywhere and I can always come back at anytime.

Oh is that how you get to the sky? I haven't even thought about that yet, so thanks! I was wracking my brain about how you would get up there since I went into the game a little too spoiler-free.

I think that the games I play normally have a more tangible progression and don't feel like I'm wasting time. Not to say TOTK doesn't have it with the shrines and just filling your inventory will different things but its not quite as dopamine-y for me like levelling up for example, if this game was a JRPG with levels and things I'd be all over it.

Oh yeah there is no shortage of things to do, maybe being an indecisive person doesn't help with that I just feel like how will I find these things if I don't know how to explore properly unless its the really obvious main quests/shrine quests.

Thankyou for your detailed comment though, really appreciate it. I will try it again I don't want to give up on this game, it's just how my brain is wired that's holding me back. If someone says they found every korok, shrine, quest ect in BOTW with no help then I respect the heck out of them, maybe your average player just won't be bothered about the completionism of it and just enjoy the ride like you, Zuljaras and hundreds of others seem to be doing,

Edit I'm 100% going back to the game with a newer mindset after googling BOTW to see if anyone had the same problem as me and they did, which made me feel better and like I wasn't crazy:

But it will have to wait a little while cause I started something else and I also wanna play Cassette beasts day 1 when it comes out. But the good thing is I'm constantly thinking about Zelda now in a positive manner too, so thanks to those who helped!

So with the ability to try in the sky and traverse that way, does that mean you should upgrade heart containers more than stamina gauge? I've found the enemies a little tougher which is why I ask.

I'm assuming dungeons will provide heart containers as well. My concern is that there aren't that many shrines compared to botw so I'm worried you won't get enough opportunities to build your health up.

Yo! The travel medallion and Hero's Footsteps features from BotW dlc are in the game after all! There's a quest line to unlock them, but they're there!

Who was it that was asking how you keep track of where you've been?

@NintendoByNature supposedly there are 152 shrines so I think you can focus however you want. And I do region sweeps and am stumbling upon a bunch of them (I unlock until I get bored exploring or think I am done exploring and the do a shrine run) but my focus is stamina so I can glide longer. Now that I have a fairy unlocked between clothes and cooking I can keep 5 hearts for a while.

There's 152 shrines, so there's definitely more than BotW had.

I have been prioritizing hearts (9 hearts now without a single stamina upgrade) but I'm about to start prioritizing stamina next. You'll need more stamina for an important quest, so keep that in mind. But hearts are way more important early game.

@JaxonH I forgot who was asking. It wasn't me, but I did answer them. @JaxonH @Ryu_Niiyama woah! 152 shrines? I've only done the great sky island 4, and I think there were 4 in central hyrule. Then there were 3 just south if central hyrule that I did, but I don't have that Map unlocked yet. I want to say it's the great plateau area. It seemed kind of light in central hyrule so I wasn't sure if there are only 4 or so in each region. Guess I got some exploring to do!

NintendoByNature

Ryu_Niiyama

Is the lost woods locked down to a quest? I can’t get in there. Took a torch and still got kicked out.

@NintendoByNature there are certainly more than four shines in central Hyrule. Keep exploring.

Ok I take it back. I don’t miss Yiga Clan anymore. Seriously hiding in a well?! They need jobs. There is a silly amount of collecting in this game. Just found an old map and a sage stone.

So I have a theory...Rampant Speculation about lore below. I haven't finished TotK obviously so most of this is likely wrong but I do have all the tears and of course beat BOTW so my brain is humming.

BOTW/TOTK seems to be taking the previous Zelda games and setting them as Legend, which is a very clean way to reboot without throwing everything out and to still have access to previous material for new interpretation. It seems like since we know that becoming a dragon by swallowing a secret stone makes one vastly powerful and Immortal at the cost of losing one's self and we already had 3 (4 actually as the Light Dragon was unseen) dragons floating around in BOTW then I would say that the 3 dragons (whom all seem to be female; Farosh is actually stated to be outright in TOTK and I can't remember if that was done in BOTW) are actually this world's versions of the Golden Goddesses. Not sure if they had the power to create or gained it with the secret stones (not sure where the secret stones come from either) but I would suspect that they had a hand in shaping Hyrule no matter what, and it explains why the Calamity which is a remnant of 'Dorf's power that leaked from him being sealed could impact them since they use a similar power source.
We know that Zelda is the 4th Dragon and thus has been watching over Hyrule and her ancestors since the sealing of 'Dorf and the creation of the Calamity cycle. While the Zonai are advanced, the peoples of Hyrule were not (or rather they took lead from the Zonai) so with Raruru and Mineru gone over time the Hylian kingdom and the other races likely regressed a bit as they likely couldn't use/control Zonai tech. The Light Dragon's identity would have only been known to the sages so at some point I am assuming that the goddess religion sprung up from the Hylians worshiping the light dragon and perhaps giving her the name Hylia. Zelda is telepathic and at the very least seems to have some awareness as she is able to leak her memories via tears plus supposedly the geogliphs were made later the people and not as a by product of the tears' power. So I would assume that she likely communicated via the goddess statues made in her/hylia's honor which cemented the worship of Hylia across much of Hyrule. Especially since at first even the Free Gerudo (as we now know that Ganondorf did NOT have unanimous support and had to subjugate some of the Gerudo (explains Urbosa's absolute disdain as she is likely the descendant of the Gerudo Sage.) supposedly worshiped the Goddess before she fell out of favor. It would make sense that the Sheikah would worship her the most as they were known for their spiritual ties (perhaps descendants of the Hylians that protected Sonia and Raruru? So they maintained their technological supremacy but began to shroud it in tradition until it was lost in the 10000 year ago war.) I would also wager that the Horned Statue is Ganondorf speaking though it same as Calamity is his hatred/malice made manifest. Since BOTW established that the line of Zelda can have existing female members as Zelda knew her mom as a child (as opposed to the mom just being dead from childbirth or so early on that nobody mentions when she died), and the powers passed down the line are less reincarnation and more bloodline from Sonia and Raruru, that reinforces to me that there is no Hylia (or that Hylia is an ancestor of Sonia's but TOTK seem to be making it as if the powers originate with Sonia) in the traditional sense and more that the role was occupied by the Seventh Sage (who is always a Zelda)/Light Dragon (who is Zelda). I have always speculated that Hylia herself was the Goddess of Time and that Zelda is the one with the power of light/sealing and since we now know that the time powers come from the Hylian (whatever Sonia's people called themselves before Hyrule was established) side and that the Light power comes from Raruru I feel I am closer to right than wrong on this. Obviously since Totk is pulling pieces from previous games to make the story it won't be exactly right but I feel like the devs had a similar thought. Zelda restoring the Master Sword feels like a call back to SS Hylia creating the Goddess Sword and the whole journey to turning it/Fi into the the Master Sword.

TLDR: The Dragons are the Golden Goddesses but distorted by legend (including their names) and Zelda/Light Dragon is Hylia also distorted by legend.

Really looking forward to Nintendo's "making of totk" youtube videos, if they make them like they did for botw. Nintendo's 'making of botw' videos were posted on youtube about ten days after the game launched.
