@Varkster It wasn't Demise. It was Ganondorf, since if you look at his face when he's about to turn and face the camera, it's green like Ganondorf's. The form is similar to Demise, but it isn't actually him.

I have a question I was hoping someone could help me out with.

I had already made my pre-order, and Walmart now upgraded it to include the wall scroll.

But, given that I have to import the game (there are no official Nintendo stores in Venezuela), I'll probably have to wait until June 2nd to be able to play it.

However, there's this one place which always offers very low prices, and I could get it arround May 19th, two weeks before. Thing is, they are selling the game at $58.

How is that even possible? The game will launch at $70 (maybe $60 if someone pre-ordered before the price reveal). They have years of credibility and so many stuff with unreal prices, so I don't think it's a scam, and they must be selling some stuff at a loss with some other profit (marketing, ads).

But just in case... are there any prices below that out there to give some certainty that the game they are selling is not a scam, or another regional variant (all my games are U.S. versions)?

@VoidofLight Sure, but designs do change from game to game when it comes to Zelda, it's also possible Demise comes to possess Ganondorf at one point or another and the concept art shows clearly that theres no way that can be Ganondorf.

Also speaking of his skin if you look at his arm the texture is very scale-like, it doesn't appear to just be skin. Just my speculation though.

Beautiful trailer. I just want to dig in and play it now

We don't stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing.

@Varkster Demise no longer exists. He was sealed inside the Master Sword and decayed. His skin in that one shot isn't scale-like. It's just covered completely in Malice. It's just a new form for Ganondorf.

@VoidofLight The theory I read implied that the game's ouroboros symbol may imply the game completing the cycle and everything going back to the beginning at the end of this game, so back to Skyward Sword.

I thought the theory is really cool and it would be in line with Demise appearing in this game to be sealed away until coming back in Skyward Sword, kind of proclaiming the end and the beginning of the timeline.

Again, I'm just seeing what I want to see because I did really think the theory was pretty great but in the trailer I think the character was wearing robes, which Demise wouldn't do because he's a form of malice aka the calamity.

@Varkster Demise wasn't just sealed though. Impa at the end of Skyward Sword says he's decaying within the Master Sword. Given how far down the timeline TotK is, Demise doesn't even exist anymore. The cycle will never truly end, given that it was just established lore-wise, and the Zelda team isn't just going to make a game that ends up capping the entire series by causing a needless timeloop or ending the reason for the series to exist in the first place. It goes against their design philosophy, where they intentionally leave things open and make games based off of ideas they want to use, rather than on the timeline itself.

"It is fate. Many have tried, yet none have ever managed to escape it's flow."

Varkster

@VoidofLight I do agree with you about their design philosophy, the cyclical nature of Zelda games is a means to continue the franchise, but the point of it all is that there is always a hero at the end (predestined or not) that is victorious, I thought that as a "dark" theme that Aonuma was hinting at, this would be a great twist, it's not that they can't still spin it around and somehow get around Demise and continue forward the timeline. Not only that, but also I do believe that they became wholly more conscious of the 'timeline' aspect, it's a fanbase driven phenomenon where developers retroactively took notice and built a foundation of a new story.

Yes, before the timeline was officially created the stories were barely if loosely connected and that sprung up speculation at first which I'm sure inspired the developers. It helps that Zelda games, despite being games meant for all audiences with a simple story, have a much deeper lore which is for people to discover who are paying attention. It's not a coincidence that there are now channels based on this stuff, and any developer of these games wouldn't be oblivious to them. It's something comparable to the Metroid, Metro and Dark Souls series when it comes to environmental storytelling and I'm sure that the writers and creative directors are taking all that into perspective when creating this game.

I also want to note that there is a part in the trailer (presumably at the beginning of the game) where Ganon's husk is grabbing onto Link's arm which is incidentally also carrying the master sword, which makes me believe that the reason Link's arm is deformed is because it was specifically the one carrying the master sword. It's quite possible then, following this logic, that whatever remained of Demise is transferred over to the husk, also damaging the sword in process. It's just what I've observed/read online in combination and it's not really much to go on, game's out in a month and I'm not really the theory-crafting guy, there are plenty of people online out there for that.

Like I said, I read a theory and thought it was cool.

@javierferrerm Everywhere in the US is selling TOTK for $70. I don't see any deals. I won't be shocked if it doesn't get a sale price until black friday (late november). In the first couple years of the switch, you could find discounts for preorders or release day, but I haven't seen retailers do that in about 3-4 years. (as far as I've seen)

@Varkster I'm just going to stop talking after this, but I keep telling you that Demise doesn't exist anymore. There's nothing left of him in the Master Sword. Impa said he was decaying at the end of Skyward Sword, and by the time TotK rolls around he should be entirely gone. I've said this multiple times, but I guess it isn't getting through to anyone here.

@VoidofLight Don't get me wrong, I'm not arguing you, I'm just discussing what I saw and I already said before I'm saying what I wanted to see rather than things I think are going to happen.

It's nothing serious, just something I thought was interesting to discuss as my own interpretation.

@WoomyNNYes Lucky us people in Australia, we get to buy the game for $74 from JB Hi-Fi, which usually would amount to $85 in other stores due to the tax.

Normally, games here cost around $70 at launch. It's a weird thing, tax, I guess it's only really a benefit when a price increase comes around (as opposed to other countries in the world, not game prices as a whole in Australia obviously).

Did pre-order alongside the Amiibo today. Don't even care if I'll be broke in a couple of weeks thanks to my rash spending habits. I'll just be happy to enjoy this game until I'm a decrepit corpse, I've been staring at people reacting to this trailer for 6-7 hours now, I need help.

@Varkster From Australia as well. $74AUD is $50USD right now. Multiple outlets like Amazon AU have it for $50USD.

Premature as heck but I am wondering if Nintendo can squeeze a third game out of this world. They have put so much into the physics engine and TotK is an easy sell to most and they still have the 10000 year ago war prior to BOTW. There are just so many locations and references that I would hate to see them end as ruins/nods only. AoC helped with that by showing the war 100 years ago and an alternate ending/timeline. But at the end of the day Riju and co return to their own time isolated from the changes they made. I would love to see Hyrule in its magicpunk heyday with the Sheikah thriving. I just realized how diluted the bloodline is as few Sheikah have red eyes in BOTW and only Paya has a strong lineage since she is related to impa. I don’t want to leave these characters behind but I am still so intrigued as to what happened. Might even explain why Ganon and Ganondorf were split (with ‘dorf being dead). Perhaps he was dead then too as BOTW seems to depict the calamity back then.

@Ryu_Niiyama Ganon and Ganondorf weren't split. Calamity Ganon was still a part of Ganondorf overall, and everything we've seen from TotK and from Creating a Champion showcases that Calamity Ganon is nothing more than a puppet or phantom Ganon born out of the intense burning hatred and obsession that Ganondorf has for burning the kingdom to the ground, as well as a way to attempt to escape his own body in order to make a brand new one.

Going back 10,000 years ago wouldn't really do much, since it was just one of many Great Calamities, and knowing how Ganondorf seems to be the root, it would be moreso like plucking a weed only for it to grow back. That's why AoC is a bad ending, because they didn't find Ganon's corpse, thus causing a potential future where the calamity will one day return yet again.

Not to mention, going back 10,000 years before BotW would just serve to be a similar ending to AoC. Hyrule would be slightly different, but the Divine Beasts and tech would serve the same purpose, and imo it would be boring to watch.

I think you're forgetting that it's all made up, if they want to bring Demise back they can write in a way. The Zelda canon isn't strict at the best of times.

If we are talking about Demise can't because of the Master Sword...Nintendo has patented the below image of The Sword looking banged up and with weird symbols around it like it's part of a spell or something so it is possible Nintendo instead of saying no that's impossible because of the "canon" they used their imagination for the baddies to do a spell on the Master Sword and revive Demise. I don't really have thoughts on the topic so I could be right or wrong but in any case it's more fun figuring out the what if scenarios than to rule out everything as impossible.

It'll be interesting to see where Nintendo goes next with this series. Judging purely on pre-release footage, the scope of this game seems pretty incredible, encompassing land, sky, and presumably underground as well, while also giving you the ability to build damn near anything you want (within the limitations of what the game's complex in-game physics engine will allow, at least).

Like, how do you top this in terms of scope? Or do you just drastically reign it back in with the next entry? I feel like that approach wouldn't be terribly well-received. Series typically become more ambitious as time goes on.

So I am wondering do you have to play Breath of the Wild to understand Tears of the Kingdom?

@Ralizah What if... what if they stopped making new Zeldas after this (like they seem to be doing with Smash)? Like if they feel they went all out and wouldn't be able to top this one? At least for a while... until some new leap in tech spurs fresh ideas, perhaps? Could they do that? Or is Zelda just too big of a cashcow? I know they can't stop making Marios...
