Topic: Switch Ports (You now almost expect)

So since The Witcher happened, Assassin’s Creed Black Flag happened, the astonishing Alien Isolation technological improvements, etc. ya know the larger size games. I truly think any game is possible if the developers wanted to do it. Thoughts?

Games I almost expect now:
Grand Theft Auto 5
Call of Duty (any one)
Far Cry 4 and/or 5

What I personally want:
Bioshock Collection

@CTmatic I keep thinking Mario 3D World or Galaxy 2 are around the corner. I totally knew about Bioshock when it came out, but didn't get a console during that generation. So, I've been hoping for some Bioshock, as well.

If ports come to the Switch any slower, they're going to go in the reverse direction. Ports we've gotten will start getting pulled.

Grand Theft Auto III / Vice City / San Andreas (ratings in Australia were recently updated)
Epic Mickey 1 & 2 (Disney 3D/Action Switch ports mentioned in a developer's LinkedIn profile)
Dragon Quest IV, V, VI (mobile ports, like I , II, & III earlier this year)
Dragon Quest Heroes I & II (32GB cartridges are now more cost-effective + wholesaler leak)
Code Vein (no Japanese publisher supports the Switch better than Bandai Namco)
Disgaea 2 & 3 (Nippon Ichi makes having the complete series possible on Switch)
No More Heroes I & II (to hype up the release of NMH3)

...and so...so many more.

Switch Physical Collection - 1,247 games (as of April 15th, 2024)

The ratings weren't "updated" (only GTA3 was reclassified recently), nor do they have to be. Any previously classified game can continue to utilise a previous classification decision without the need for reclassification, but that's assuming that the content is identical (or at least with no additional content likely to increase the overall impact of the game).

Grand Theft Auto III was originally banned in Australia, as there was no R18+ classification for games at the time. The reason why it was banned was due to the fact that the player can have sex with prostitutes, subsequently kill them, and then take back the money that they had just paid them. This was deemed to constitute an act of sexual activity relating to incentives or rewards, which is not permitted at categories that minors can readily access (similar conditions apply to nudity relating to incentives and rewards). The ability to have sex with prostitutes was subsequently removed from the Australian version of the game, and by extension, the ability to kill and reclaim money that the player had paid to a prostitute. The ability to kill prostitutes otherwise remained in the game, but you just can't have sex with them and get a refund by murdering them.

The recent reclassification now allows GTA3 to (finally) be released uncut in Australia since the R18+ classification had been legislated and put into effect since 2013. We don't know yet if Rockstar are planning a new retail release of the earlier GTA games, or whether it is intended for an uncut digital-only release as they have not announced anything yet. Hopefully a Switch release is on the cards!

I would also love to have a physical copy of Bully on Switch, with the Wii motion controls ported over of course. What other game allows you to administer wedgies and toss troublesome delinquents into bins with motion controls?

"Gee, that's really persuasive. Do you have any actual points to make other than to essentially say 'me Tarzan, physical bad, digital good'?"

Cyberpunk 2077. Although, for me, that may be more wishful thinking than reasoned judgment. Still, as it's supposed to be for the current generation, surely some clever studio could cram it down the way they did with The Witcher 3. The file size will be probably be enormous, though.

I'll throw in a Ni No Kuni 2, given that Bandai Namco could probably do with squeezing a few more sales out of it. Think that's actually fairly likely.

Not ruling out Disco Elysium or Outer Wilds either. Think there's a good chance one or both will be teased in the next full Direct.

I'm expecting Mario 3D World, Metroid Prime Trilogy, Xenoblade X, and the HD Zeldas from Nintendo at some point.

Epic Mickey and the Kingdom Hearts remasters seem like a no brainer even if KH 3 is unlikely.

I'd file Tekken, Soul Calibur, and DoA under "maybe". Kinda hope they would be spinoffs like DoA: Dimensions, or Soul Calibur: Broken Destiny instead of straight ports.

This one may be wishfull thinking, but an HD Rogue Squadron collection would be sweet.

Out of the Wii U titles:
Yes-

  • 3D World + Pikmin 3 seem almost a given at this point. Probably one for each of the next two years.
  • Wonderful 101 and Bayonetta both had port teases early on with Bayonetta's already coming out, and W101 could really use a second chance to shine. I'd wager we'll see it next summer if Platinum doesn't have a new title coming out to fill in the gap between Astral Chain and Bayonetta 3. If Bayonetta 3 is out this year, W101 will be next.

Maybe-

  • The Zelda games will probably come back again next gen (no need to overexpose them.)
  • XCX is a maybe due to costs of development, I think it'll hinge on how well XC:Remake sells
  • Yoshi's Woolly World - This one's a very low maybe. The game was incredibly well received, but it already came to the 3DS. It could be as early as next year, but this one might make sense to hold til the end of the lifespan if it comes at all.

No -

  • PM: Color Splash - Assuming Nintendo's learned their lesson about what consumers want from Paper Mario, we won't see this. A decent title at best, but it doesn't really need a second chance at life, at least not without a ton of QoL improvements (though even that would just push it up to a solid good, not a great)
  • Star Fox Zero - Presumably not since it bombed and would cost a lot to rework.
  • Everything else - Either actually pushed the Wii U's hardware (NintendoLand, Wii Party U, Game & Wario, Kirby and the Rainbow Curse), has a sequel that makes the original game obsolete (Super Mario Maker, Mario Tennis Aces, Splatoon, Mario Party 10, Mario & Sonic ) or bombed even harder than SF:Zero (Devil's Third.

Anyways, onto other ports-

  • KH 1.5 + 2.5 + 2.8 - Almost certainly going to happen. If Xbox is getting them, why leave money on the table by avoiding the system that they would likely sell best on given Nintendo's history with Kingdom Hearts.
  • KH 3 - Less certain, but I have a gut feeling it'll happen.
  • Tekken and/or Soul Calibur - While personally I'd take Tag Tournament 2 again, I can't see why they wouldn't bring over 7 when fighting games are doing so well. At the least, we'll see something from one of those series this year I'd think.
  • Dragon Quest 8: I feel like if we're going to see any of the more modern DQs come back after how well XI did, eight is the choice they'll make.
  • Assassin's Creed: Ezio Trilogy - With us having 3 + Lib + 4 + Rogue, going back to the 2 trilogy next seems highly likely.
  • Megaman Battle Network Collection and Star Force / Legends Collections - Self-explanatory, splitting them this way keeps it to about 6 games each.
  • Persona - I think we'll probably end up with one of the older Persona's after all this still, just not sure which. Maybe 3: FES or innocent sin?
  • Viewtiful Joe: I'm guessing we'll see these games get the remaster treatment (at least 1&2) in the next few years, and Switch would surely get them if that's the case.

I've been expecting Soul Calibur VI, the Arkham games, and Injustice 2 for a while now, and nothing has come of it.

So I don't know what to expect

Currently Playing: Steamworld Heist, The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask, Tales of Graces F

In 2014 I pointed out that it was absurd that even for the console's limited sales, no one at Capcom thought to put that new Strider game on Wii U. The retro platformer, on a Nintendo console. So now that Switch is a thing, they've had no excuse.

also Soul Calibur 2 HD. Bringing back SC2 ft. Link makes the most sense right now. Link is literally in the most successful fighting game ever, Soul Calibur is somewhat relevant again and Namco wants that to stay true I assume, the HD version would fit right in with Switch's limitations (though hopefully be better than what I heard of the HD version of SC2). It just makes sense.

Whatever happened with the whole Xbox Live thing merging to Switch? I may have missed some newsfeeds but it seems like that just disappeared?

Edit: ...and no, I wasn’t expecting Xbox Live games all coming in case anyone’s about to say dude you’re crazy. 😉

Witcher 3 is the biggest one here. And now we have JPRPG coming that is another thing with the Success of Switch and Switch Lite.

I'm expecting Persona 5 Royal to get a Switch port at some point. Hopefully it does since I prefer to play RPGS on the go (I remember grinding Bravely Default in Wal-Mart and leveled up, lol) compared to home consoles. If it doesn't, then i'll still rev up the PS4 version.

I made Sheldon & Mr. Randoms back on Flipnote Hatena, now i'm a kangaroo mod that has a funko pop collection!

I'm not keen politics since that stuff is spooky, I'd rather watch SpongeBob over Fox News anyways!
