Topic: Switch Library Quality or Quantity?

The funny thing about that chart is that all those Wii games were retail releases. They had to come from publishers who had enough money to physically print and distribute those games. With the Switch that filter doesn't really exist because of digital distribution so Nintendo is probably being a bit more selective than the list would suggest.

I don't know whether Nintendo is being selective or not, but if they are I'm fairly confident they won't be turning away worthwhile games very often.

I'm not someone who ditches an older system as soon as the new one comes along. These last couple of weeks I've been playing on my Wii U more than my Switch, and I'm also rocking my 3DS, as well as having a massive backlog on Steam, Wii, PS3, Gamecube and Xbox One.

The current rate of release of Nintendo's big games is more than enough for me. I've still got many hours of BotW and MK8D to play. If ARMS is very good (I'm thinking 85+% will be my trigger) then I'll likely be getting that, and then Splatoon 2. Then maybe nothing until FIFA and Odyssey hit.

I haven't bought any other Switch games. They're overpriced. Having bought a large proportion of the Wii U catalogue, I'm going to be more selective on Switch, at least until the prices come down.

Quality is subjective.

Switch games list,

Legend of Zelda BotW, Human resource machine, NBA Playgrounds, Street Fighter 2, Super Bomberman R, Snipperclips, Overcooked, World of Goo.

From my point of view Switch already has way more good quality games than I'll get to play. I only have BOTW and Snipperclips and I've already spent well over my typical gaming hours in March and April. I expect I'll get Splatoon 2 and Mario Odyssey, plus maybe Arms, and that will adequately fill my game time well into 2018.

Can't we have quality and quantity like the PS4 library?

Naturally, we should get there. But I'm referring to a strong push of games right away or a methodical approach.

It's an interesting one...

One big problem I have with Nintendo's current philosophy is that I've heard that those in charge of 'eShop curation' are Marketing Executives with little knowledge of the game development process...if that's the case, that could be a real issue - and we could end up missing out on interesting, quality titles because the suits at the top can't figure out how to fit them in to their 'marketing strategy'.

I've always been of the view that 'the cream will always rise to the top' ..'word of mouth' is a very powerful thing - and I think that I'd rather see a situation where gamers can judge for themselves whether a game is good or not, rather than a team of suits deciding on our behalf...

I also have a few concerns with how Nintendo are handling the bigger companies - this rumour about a Mario/Rabbids crossover is just bizarre as far as I'm concerned...almost as if Nintendo are so desperate to have a company like Ubisoft as a partner that they've given them free use of Mario to sweeten the deal?! ..this may not be the case at all of course (the rumours may not be true? or perhaps they are & the game will actually be great?!) ..but it's a potentially concerning new direction that they are taking.

Having said all of that, I'm actually pretty happy with how things are shaping up at this moment in time - the Switch library is growing steadily & there looks like there'll be more than enough games to keep me going ..I just hope that Nintendo will be flexible on their philosophy going forward - if it seems like they're perhaps being a little too strict, I hope that they'll be pro-active in changing their criteria rather than just allowing frustration to fester...

It's far too soon to tell how things are going to play out longer term - I enjoyed the broad variety of games on the SNES (there were many hits and many misses on that system!) ..but, in the next generation of consoles, I much prefered the 'hits' from the more limited selection of games on the N64, than those within the broader selection available on PSX..

Judging by my gaming habits in the past, so long as there are 20-30 games (+ a few quality Indies) that really capture my immagination within the Switch's lifespan - I'll probably be pretty happy

@NaviAndMii My reasoning on the Mario/Rabbids crossover game is that they're looking for something new in the Mario RPG series. I've not played any of the Mario RPGs yet, but they're probably after a source of new inspiration, so hopefully the Rabbids will provide that.

@gcunit Yeah - I mean, Nintendo did announce a while back that they were going to be more open about licensing their characters out in future, so the rumours about such a crossover didn't come as a total shock...plus, I don't think it'd be fair of me to jump to any conclusions at this stage - it'll be interesting to see how things pan out

All I really care about is the games that matter to me ..even on my favourite consoles in the past, I've only really brought 20-30 games for them (then played them to death!) ..the Switch is delivering at the moment - I have Zelda and Mario Kart - and there are quite a number of games on the horizon that have peaked my interest...at this rate, things should be just fine
