I was at our local Meijer store last night and checked out the games section. They used to have a very good selection of Switch games out on display in security cases. Now they have a photo of the game cover in those plastic security cases on display. There’s a note hanging that says to see an associate for game availability. Xbox and Playststion games are still on display as before. The 3DS game section is dwindling. They have multiple copies of the same game spread out on the hooks to make the display section larger. It was 2AM when I was there and never saw anyone in the electronics area to ask about the Switch games. Anyone else that shops Meijer see this?
@nintendobynature Target is usually good. Walmart isn’t too bad here. But Meijer will usually have games on sale. I don’t see that so much with Walmart if at all.
@DTMOF84 Man this is nostalgic. I used to go to Meijer all the time. I worked for a summer as a temp at a General Motors engine plant and Meijer and McDonald's were the only places open when I got off of work. Never bought a lot of games there though. Because we had both a Game Stop and a Best Buy in town and as a kid and teenager I didn't know better. lol

@DTMOF84 targets not bad. Wal-Mart has a good selection usually. Speaking of nostalgia @Heavyarms55 toys r us was the best when i was a kid. Only place i bought video games from until target and Wal-Mart rose to prominence in Chicago
@nintendobynature Even as a kid I avoided Toys R Us actually. We had one in town, but first my father noticed that things like Lego were more expensive there, than at Meijer or Target. And then I noticed the same about Pokemon cards when I was a little older. When I was old enough to be buying games myself I found games were indeed more expensive there as well and that sealed it for me. I'd only buy things there if I couldn't find them elsewhere. Though my friends and I used to go there just to mess around. I imagine the workers hated us. We were even asked to leave once, lol.

@JackEatsSparrows It's mostly a mid-west thing I believe. I grew up in south eastern Michigan. They were all over the state and as far as I know, still are. Though I haven't been back there in a good while.

@Heavyarms55 yea I hear you..i just remember toys r us had the biggest gaming selection in the nes days. It was that or funco land lol. Target and Wal-Mart were more late 90s for My area
@nintendobynature I remember Funcoland. It was the first dedicated game store I can remember going to. Were they bought out by Game Stop or did they just close down? I know that the location for the one near my home growing up is a Game Stop now. Or was last time I was in the area.

@Heavyarms55 that sounds about right. Last time I stepped foot in a funco land they wanted to offer me and my brother .10cents for a power glove.. we kept it thankfully instead of selling it but I have no idea where it is. Damn thing never worked anyway.
@ReaderRagfihs It's that way for pretty much all electronics at this point. We are pretty much past the point of having dozens of different companies offering different products. These days you have Nintendo, Sony, Microsoft making gaming devices, Apple and Microsoft dominating personal computers, and only a handful of major phone companies, all based around Android or iOS. And I am pretty sure I am the only person left who still buys movies on a physical release - same with music.

People are always surprised when they come into our house and see all the movies and music on disc. We're like, yeah, that's about half the collection, the rest are in boxes in the attic.
Then they look at the other shelves full of mysterious artifacts and their eyes get all wide. Yes, people, those are called "books". They tell magical stories and they smell good.
I'll be honest with you, though, I mostly buy e-books now and I archived all my CDs as FLACs on a hard drive recently so I could eliminate some of the clutter in the house. It took me like a year and a half to rip all the CDs, but it it is well worth the time to have everything available on my PC and a much neater living room.
Still buying those CDs, though!

A nearby town is supposed to be getting one of these in the next couple of years. I suppose having another brick and mortar option besides GameStop and Walmart wouldn't hurt.
I'm also a member of the physical media club. I don't watch movies too often and tend to just buy a lot of the ones that I really like. I primarily have DVDs but am starting to delve into the Blu-ray world more. XD
Music-wise, I do have Spotify and use it to screen new CDs before buying them and to find new music. My tastes are different than a lot of what airs on the radio around here, so I sometimes find new groups and/or songs that I like.
Currently playing: Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story + Bowser Jr's Journey, Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana (Switch)
@JasmineDragon I only switched to buying ebooks because someday I will move back to the US and books tend to be not only heavy but bulky. Very expensive to ship.

@Heavyarms55 That was a big part of my switch, too. I have moved house about two dozen times, including several international moves, and I usually end up having to leave some precious books behind. That hurts.
It's about the room, too. We are a family of four readers, two of us really voracious readers, and there literally isn't a room in the house that doesn't have a couple of bookcases in the corners.
I love books, and kind of hate the way digital rights are currently handled with e-books, but if you collect a lot, e-books are a billion times more convenient. And being able to carry fifty books in my pocket doesn't suck.

This reminds me of the VERY old days at Toys R Us. Like in the time of the Atari 2600. They had all the games behind glass, and the racks only had coupons. You had to take the coupon to the register and exchange it for the game.
It was Electronics Boutique before that, and yes Meijer's Thrifty Acres was a Midwest thing that started out in Michigan but they are ever expanding all over now.
