I have bought a switch oled and giving my niece my v1 switch. She wants to keep the acnh island data, I don't want it for my oled. Can I still transfer all my data to my new oled and leave acnh data on the v1 for her? The game is a physical copy, I no longer play it so she can have it

@GazzaB85 Does anyone else have a more certain answer? Correct me if I'm wrong. I'll take a shot here, in case your question sits for a long time.

I think the answer may be no, because the ACNH save data is linked to your nintendo account/email address. (I know for certain giving your niece the ACNH cartridge will just start a brand new game on a new console & different nintendo account.)

And you don't want your account linked to two consoles (limitations are too restrictive to tolerate).

(and transferring ACNH save data to another console requires an app/tool from eshop. This is unique to ACNH)

You can keep your profile on both systems and use the island transfer tool later to return the island to her system, don't worry.

Assuming your character is the main resident of the island though, perhaps it would be better for her start one of her own though.

Thanks for the replies. I'm giving her the old switch which has the island data saved on and I'm having the oled. I don't want it anyway but will I have to create a new account on the oled so she can keep the save file. ?

@GazzaB85 do you not have any games or save data you'd wish to keep?

I mean if you don't and are fine with giving your sister complete ownership of your old account, then go for it.

I have grid autosport and quake as digital downloads, all my other games are physical. If she makes her own profile on the v1 I'm giving her and I keep my one for the new oled can I still give her the cartridge and the island we created? Or will she have to start all over again? Sorry if I'm confusing, I'm hopeless at explaining things 😅 thanks

@GazzaB85 ok let's put it this way:

  • You transfer your profile to the new system, your content and save files come with you.
  • You decide to leave (or re-add) your profile on the old switch as well (it can be on both at the same time, you just need to make sure your new console is the "primary" console.)
    • What does primary console mean? The primary console, including any other profile sharing the console, has unrestricted access to all your digital content; any extra "secondary" consoles must perform an online check first, and only your profile can access the content.
      • This check is to make sure your primary console is not online at the same time, to prevent you from just sharing your games without limit.
      • Note though, that this only applies to digital content (as in, things you've downloaded from the eShop.)
    • To check which switch is the primary console, visit the eshop, on the account information menu.
  • If the Animal Crossing file was transferred to the new system, you can move it back by downloading the "Island Transfer Tool" from the eShop on both systems.
  • If she creates her own profile, she will be able to continue playing on the same old island as her own character, or use your profile to play as yours (as long as you're not connected to the internet on your own switch at the same time.)

I think this is something you need contact ACNH support to ask them. I looked and the information can be confusing. But the Island is tied to the account holder whom started the game you can't transfer to another person. They must create their own account and if your transferring all your data/save to the OLED the island will most likely move to the new OLED. So at this point you need to contact Nintendo Support and ask about ACNH migration to get the right information for this migration. This is for NA version.

@SwitchForce thanks. I don't want the data for acnh though I just want the data for all the other games I have that are on v1. My niece wants to keep the same island the way we have it on v1. I'm bored of acnh now lol and when I give her the v1 after I've moved my saves for the other games then it's all hers if that makes sense

You don’t need to do anything at all. When transferring data to a new Switch, ACNH data is not transferred to the other console. ACNH is unique in that it requires a separate app to transfer save data to another console while virtually everything else will be migrated. In accordance with your original post, no further action is required on your part after performing the system transfer.
